The Red Knight was Perry's psychological manifestation of the blood splatter when his wife was murdered. That's why it was always chasing him. Terry Gilliam is a master of symbolism and stuffs. This is definitely a great movie to re-watch multiple times just to find and absorb all the effort Gilliam put into the film.

Musician David Crosby (of Crosby, Stills & Nash) has praised this movie in writing and in concert, saying how he related so much to Robin Williams' character. Crosby's girlfriend died suddenly in a car crash and it threw him into depression and drug addiction that took several years to climb out of. When he saw this movie the line, "Can I miss her now?" struck home for him. He finally came to accept his girlfriend's death and move past it.
You may have seen Amanda Plummer in the Quentin Tarantino movie "Pulp Fiction", she helps rob the diner.

YEA!!!!!!! It was ME that suggested this on a previous post of yours. I'm so happy when I help convert someone to the fandom of this great, underrated and almost forgotten movie. The awesome script, the direction of Terry Gilliam and the chemistry between the 4 main actors and their performances are so sublime. Mercedes Ruehl won Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance. It is definitely a movie you'll want to watch again and again (I probably watch it once a year on average) and you'll catch some details you may have missed earlier. I'll add a separate comment later about how I know someone can initially feel about the "creepy/stalking" profession of love that Parry confesses to Lydia. So glad you enjoyed it!!! God bless!

The Red Knight doesn’t represent his guilt, it represents the actual thing that happened - it’s a visual reminder of what happened, (gun) fire and blood - and the only thing he hasn’t been able to fully suppress. Everything else he has put away, including who he is. And so, when the Red Knight reappears right after Parry’s date with Lydia is over, it instills in him a terror that he is going to lose her too, and by extension that there is no hope whatsoever for him. I remember seeing that scene for the first time and how my heart sank. It was one of the most heartbreaking movie scenes I had ever seen.
