  • My friends 2008 ZX6R has developed an engine problem.. what is it? Sound like valve ticking? Maybe low oil pressure? But no warning light? Or what could it be? .. another friend told me that this is a common problem in my movie for that year. But he is uncertain what exactly causes this, but he says ultimately the engine will seize up! :-/

Check your engine oil too, lack of lubrication can cause a seizure.

The problem did get louder or get faster with the revs so I am going to assume the problem may be a valve tap.

It's your valve shims that are going bad.
I had the same issues with my zx6r an I ran new moble 1 oils an Lucas in it an it helped quiet them down but if the start to federal noisy again they have time be replaced.

    Cam chain like comments below.

  • @Babyonboardtravelingford

Tuve el mismo sonido y no era el tensioner chain
Destapamos motor y resultó ser un pistón que partió la falda por recalentamiento y falta de lubricacion

I Just bought a bike at the dealer same exact one - but it seems to have same problem i called them and they told me for that model motorcycle its normal but to me it doesnt seem normal - did you find out what it was ? i am thinking of taking it back to dealer so they can fix it. it only happens on cold start.

if yours sounded like this one in the video, its definitely not normal. have it check, or you might cause more damage to your engine.

OIL level was too low so they maxed out the oil level the bike can handle and it fixed my problem it was clicking clicking clicking but adjusting oil fixed the problem. i had taken it to dealer and they re did whole top and problem still came back but when adjusting the oil the problem was fixed for me.

If you ever have this problem again or somebody told you otherwise,99 percent of the time it will be your cam chain tensioner has yet to pop itself to the next tooth. The stock one is automatic meaning it's got a spring loaded "rod" with teeth that can only go outwards and not back into itself. You can adjust it yourself but if you are not familiar with its function I would not recommend doing it yourself. The unit is located on the stater side of the bike at the bottom of the head were the right above were the head and cylinder jugs meet. By loosing the center nut a bit as well as the smaller top nut, you then slowly begin losing the bottom nut. Slow and listen for a "click" and sometimes you can feel a little "pop" if you will. Stop turning after one click as if you go to far it will click again and you then have to take the unit out to reset or your bike will then sound terrible and not be happy. Before anything try this or install a manual version and get to know the inner workings of your machine. Itll thank you with many years of fun!!!
