Please sheldon, the disrespect is that the body guard and the president used their left hands whiles talking to them. And also it is traditional that when chiefs sit in durbar grounds or in public they don't stand again until the program has ended. It is just fair that a chief will rise up to respond to your greetings. You don't demand or command them. Talk less of disrespecting them with your left hand. The president is wrong. Let us tell him, the disrespect to Ghanaian chiefs lately is too much.

My point is, Nana doesn't deserve to be disrespected because he is not a chief. He is still the president of Ghana, not a city or town or region, the entire country. @@robertosei8867wrong, China is able to do that because they literally pay and loan to these nations. So they have no choice but to do what they say cause they want the money. China can’t do the same thing to America, Russia, even Ukraine and Israel. This is when you know your country has no power on a world stage. It is not against any law to stand and greet someone whether be chief or normal citizens. If they don’t want to, you can’t force them especially since you don’t own them like China owns these African states. If you don’t own them you can’t shout and demand something just because you think you are the president. Thirdly, a president is a public servant, the main priorities and why we elected them to serve the people is to be diplomatic and make sure everyone/ethnic groups and more are not at odds. And creating spaces to economically boost the country. That’s why territories and people before Ghana was a country, joined arms with Nkrumah to be in a country called Ghana. Another reason why some groups want to succeed from Ghana especially the “western togoland” people that what independence and separation from Ghana. Because they don’t believe in the country’s governance and want to govern themselves. Diplomacy 101, the president should know the culture of the different people he is serving, whether he likes it or not, he can’t force anyone to greet him.

      thanks for an erudite discussion.
      am gonna keep it short.
I can understand the president is a public servant and all, but he is indeed the first gentleman of the land and we treat him with the very best.(public servant oo)
What you are experiencing in the video is about paramountcy, pedigree and ultimately Power which is the P, you expressed here
"This is when you know your country has no power on a world stage"
What you are seeing is a power dynamic at play, it has to be negotiated unfortunately and that is where the diplomacy and public finesse needed to be embodied by a statesman comes to play.
Sadly the president chose to be not so charming about it.

These protocols only applies to Government officials or (anyone in parliament ) If the chief has no seat in parliament it's only a matter of common courtesy n respect .. If not then , there's no obligation here

I suggest Ghanaian put their tradition before any other thing.1. What if the chief is older than him?
    2. Imagine someone being him there since 8am in the morning and the president comes at 4pm?
    3. What if in the Chief tradition the people have to bow down and great the chief?
So many things are into tradition we don't even know.

Sheldon ,please let’s learn our culture and traditions well, our chiefs and kings have absolute power over their jurisdictions so if a president visit a chief ,the traditions says he has to sit down for the president to greet him ,the president has no right to order the chief to stand so therefore our president doesn’t respect tradition or he doesn’t know tradition and moreover ,our chiefs now a days have cheapen themselves to the level that they are no longer respected in our country anymore thank you
