      You guys are emphasizing that the wrangler is a quicker drag car based on *engines.* Yes, I agree... "torque" wins races. But you guys are neglecting the Gladiator probably got "towing truck gears in the rear end," making it slower off the line. Also, gasoline engines tend to have the torque more readily available across the entire rpm spectrum, where as typically with a diesel you can get loads of torque but you do have to wait longer for it, even with these car companies putting turbos on them. Put the same gears in both vehicles then see what happens.

      @@MethodMarine umm...incorrect...the turbos are usually for top end power, not low-end torque....diesels have all the torque down low and not much up top...of course that depends on the size of the exhaust housing, variable vane turbos, dumping extra fuel to ignite in the turbo to spool faster, etc

      SAM Cooper I think non turbo ICE vehicles lose efficiency with less oxygen somewhere in the order of 3% per 1000 foot in altitude. So at 5000ft around 15% in performance loss. It's all about manifold air density and Turbos with good inter coolers increase manifold air density which is why they enhance power even at altitude.

    • @steve0763
      @steve0763 Před 4 lety

      @@0004612 Not true at all. NA engines loose 3% of their HP for every 1Kft of elevation. So at a mile high, the v8 and v6 engines are down 15%. The diesel, since it has a turbo, can still see the same target boost pressures, but it'll just take a little longer to reach those pressures. In other words the diesel will still make the same HP/TQ numbers, it'll just spool up a little slower.

      The Ram is lifted and on bigger tires, the engine in the F-250 was built to make gobs of torque across the whole rev range and has 2 extra gears in the transmission. I don't remember which rear axle they got in the F-250 but if they got the 4.30 (which every Super Duty should have, the 3.73 shouldn't even be an option) then they've really got the gearing, torque, rotating mass, and aerodynamic advantage (remember, the Ford still has that huge chin spoiler on it and they are functional).

    I just looked at when they did a drag race on the power wagon and it did it in 8.12 seconds.... so the new ram 2500 with the 8 speed is just as fast if not faster then the new ford 7.3.! Should make for good reviews for the HD gas IKE!

    I’d like to see this at sea level. Regardless, I’ve never seen an ecodiesel so motivated lol. Before you guys start arguing torque, torque isn’t speed, HP is and this thing only has 260. I expected this engine to be a good way to go for wrangler though since they won’t give us 8 cylinders 😢

    I didn't expect the Jeep diesel and Ram would be quite that slow. My 2014 F-150 5.0 SuperCab 2wd does a consistent 0-60 between 6.2-6.3s and a 1/4 in the low 15s range. It was doing that before the intake and exhaust. That's not even really fast at all. Maybe the mile above sea level is the reason for the high 0-60 times and my times being lower is because I live in Florida at about 72ft above sea level.

      The best 0-60 time they got with that diesel jeep was 8.6 seconds. But when they compared their Rebel against the new powerwagen, they were clocking the rebel 0-60 at about 7.5 seconds. so they must have really messed up the rebel's acceleration with tires and exhaust, or there is something else going on with it.

    Forced induction/high altitude story.... So I live in flat America near sea level. I took my 90yo father's 1996 Buick Park Avenue Ultra (supercharged) on a quick vacation through the smokey mountains in Tennessee. As the altitude brought all of the cars to using their hazard lights and trying to maintain 45mph on the 6% grades, I rocketed up those mountains so fast, I couldn't believe it! That measly 240 supercharged horsepower could run by regular cars at 85mph like nothing. I never expected THAT MUCH of a difference with forced induction. I wouldn't live in the mountains without it!

    Horsepower wins races. The two big trucks (and the Gladiator) were pulling up on the diesel but the finish line is too short. 1/8th mile? On the quarter the diesel would have lost. There was an interesting article a few years ago from Auto, Motor, Und Sport comparing a Golf GTD against the similar horsepower GTI and they both had the same quarter mile times, same 0-62, and similar fuel economy, driven really hard, despite the TDI having almost twice the torque. Granted, driven sensibly on the streets the GTD feels spunkier and returns better fuel economy because you can short shift it but they perform similarly if driven aggressively.
