The Best Infantry Fighting Vehicle Ever Seen

- The sound of gunfire echoed through the desert wasteland as the Swedish combat unit advanced deeper into enemy territory on a perilous reconnaissance mission.
But in the middle of the night, just as the infantrymen took a respite, they were startled by the sound of explosions. The enemy had found them. The Swedish soldiers were outnumbered and outgunned, and they quickly found themselves surrounded by Afghani fighters. The commander desperately radioed for backup, but he knew it would take some time before help arrived. They had to hold out until then.
He then ordered his men to take cover behind the dilapidated buildings of an abandoned village and return fire. The enemy unleashed RPGs and heavy machine gun fire, which soon enveloped the soldiers from every direction. To make matters worse, they couldn’t determine where the enemy was positioned.
Then, in their darkest hour, a friendly CV90 fighting vehicle arrived. The sound of its engine thundered over the gunfire, and the soldiers felt a sense of relief wash over them.
With its groundbreaking array of environmental sensors, the fighting vehicle's operators immediately pinpointed the enemy's location and targeted them with their 30-millimeter cannon. The Swedish soldiers could hear the whistling sound of the rounds as they flew past them and shredded enemy positions, and the distraction allowed them to launch a decisive counterattack.
The formidable CV90 had averted a possibly lethal ambush, one of many deeds that have earned it the reputation of being the best infantry fighting vehicle in the world… - Věda a technologie

I like to think it is a turret whit tracks 😂
Czechia just ordered 246 CV90 MkIV. More countries should follow as it’s easily the best ifv being produced.
Seeing how the war in ukraine is centered around their BNP and IFVs and heavy armor is less relevant then ever.
Even hand helt devices like NLAW can defeat heavy armor, so does the IFV's rockets. And even a tank taking 30mm fire will have issues afterwards.. cant shoot if u cant se the enemy.
The US should do the same after the abortion of the Bradley project. The CV90 MkIV is sooo much better. If the US learned anything from the Bradley Project it should be to save the development $ and buy Swedish or German weapons. The Bradley IFV Project was probably the worst run project ever.
@@johninnh4880 that’s not gonna happen, by law all US military combat vehicles have to be designed solely for US military use and major parts must be made in the USA
So while US production is easy to solve it won’t happen because it fails the first clause

The CV90 is an amazingly effective IFV. Despite its age, it is effectively a new vehicle in its latest iteration, the CV90MkIV. The underlying platform is incredibly sound.
Even without the latest variant, I wouldn't really call the design 'old' by IFV standards
Solid combat vehicle tho, agreed. Sweden doesn't build sub-par combat kit
Sweden likes making entirely new platforms while retaining the same name.
Gripen C vs Gripen E for example.
It's so that pacifists in their parliament don't complain about buying new weapons.
@@chrisburke624 Its up to date sensors and programmable airburst ammo. See also the PUMA and other upcoming IFVs. Its today simply state of the art design and the CV90 was AFAIK the first of this type.
@@firemochimc Aaaahhhhh, the good old "it's just an upgrade" trick to pacify the ignorant politicians. Nice.
In Canada we did that with the LAV 3 'upgrade' to the LAV 6. Entirely new build vehicle, but we could call it an upgrade because one specific part of the older vehicle was used in building the new one
Saw one recently its a whole different beast from the standard CV90
Served in diffrent variants of the one we use in Swedish army. And the thing is... By all systems from personal weapons to AT weapons and other tracked and wheel vehicles, this one is by far the best thing i ever have worked on. Extremly easy to use, Easy to maintain. Its easier then driving a car. You can sleep in it, u can cook food in it. And i never spent that many hours in a vehicle without any major breakdowns. Love it to the moon and back. Seriously...
Does it come with a toilet?
The CV90 is a genuinely terrifying vehicle to have to fight against. It can see farther and move faster than almost everything else in the field and it can lay down a large volume of accurate fire.
The latest mk 4 version with active damping hydro-gas is the best suspension for firing on the move. It makes old torsion bar set ups seem budget vintage, best suited to firms who's hulls who do not have accurate dimensions. Torsion bar systems allow for lots of shimming to make it go straight down the road lol
Love my brothers. Swedish weapons are the best. hope Denmark by them in the future
Design ,design ,design, wins all.
CONGRATS FOR VOICE INTONATION AND PROFESIONALISM OF SOUND DESIGN !!!!!!!!
*VARIANTS OF THE CV90*
_The following versions were developed by Hägglund/Bofors in cooperation with FOA and FMV for Försvarsmakten as part of the Stridsfordon 90 (Strf 90)-family. Sweden originally planned for a mix of CV9040 and CV9025, tests of the 25 mm turret being carried out on an Ikv 91 chassis, but finally decided on the 40 mm version, due to the much higher versatility of the larger calibre._
*Stridsfordon (Strf) 9040 (SB1A3):* The original model carries eight soldiers and is equipped with a 40 mm Bofors autocannon. From November 1997, the gun was gyro-stabilized. Versions are referred to by the letters A, B or C depending on upgrades. All from A onwards remain in service.
*Strf 9040:* Original production version with no gun stabilization and Lyran mortar. Incremental improvements were made during production; all have been upgraded to Strf9040A standard.
*Strf 9040A:* Strf 9040 upgraded with extensive chassis modifications and external gun stabilisation on turret front. It has more storage and better emergency exits, and the seats in the troop compartment were reduced to seven.
*Strf 9040B:* 9040A updated with improvements to armament (new fire control software, electric firing pin, fully stabilized gun with internal stabilisation and reserve sight with video camera for the gunner), improved suspension for better accuracy and crew comfort while moving, new instrumentation and new seatbelts.
*Strf 9040B1:* Strf9040B modified for international peacekeeping missions. It has a 3P ammunition programmer, climate control and anti-spall liner.
*Strf 9040C:* Upgraded version for crew training and international operations. As per 9040B1 with additional all-round armour, laser filtering in all periscopes and tropical grade air conditioning. Due to the bulk and weight of the modifications, only six soldiers can be carried.
*CV9040 AAV Luftvärnskanonvagn (lvkv) 9040:* Anti-air vehicle, fitted with PS-95 radar from Thomson CSF Harfang (now Thales Group) and a high elevation 40 mm autocannon capable of using programmable ammunition. It is connected to the national air defence net LuLIS. Three have been upgraded to C-standard. There is also a demonstrator, designated Lvkv 90-TD, fitted with infrared video targeting and a fully stabilized gun for firing on the move.
*Granatkastarpansarbandvagn (Grkpbv) 90:* (Tracked Armoured Mortar Vehicle), producer name Mjölner: A CV 90 fitted with two 120 mm mortars. The 40 CV90 hulls for this project had already been purchased by 2003 and were originally intended to be equipped with the Patria Advanced Mortar System. For economic reasons, Genomförandegruppen recommended against it and the AMOS order was cancelled with the vehicles put in storage until BAE Systems AB received a contract in December 2016 to install Mjölner 120 mm mortars on the 40 CV90s to increase the indirect fire capability of mechanized battalions. The first units were delivered in January 2019 and all 40 vehicles had been delivered by 2020. In 2022 an additional 20 vehicles were ordered with deliveries scheduled for between 2023 to 2025.
*Stridsledningspansarbandvagn (Stripbv) 90 (Forward Command Vehicle):* Used by the battalion and brigade commander for command and control. Two were upgraded to C-standard, but have been decommissioned as of 2011.
*Eldledningspansarbandvagn (Epbv) 90 (Forward Observation Vehicle):* For directing artillery and mortar fire, a more advanced IR sensor was fitted; eight have been upgraded to C-standard.
*Bärgningsbandvagn (Bgbv) 90, (Armoured Recovery Vehicle):* Two 9-tonne winches provide a maximum capacity of 72 tonnes through 4-way pulleys. Three have been upgraded to C-standard, and at least one has been used in Afghanistan.
The command, forward observation and armoured recovery vehicles are armed only with a machine gun.
*Störpansarbandvagn (Störpbv) 90 (Electronic Warfare Vehicle):* A 9040A had its turret replaced with a fixed housing containing retractable mast and a LEMUR weapons station. Planned in 2002, a single unit was produced before serial production was cancelled for economic reasons and as of 2013 the project is still on hold.
*Strf 90120/CV90120-T:* Light tank demonstrator armed with CTG 120/L50 (Compact Tank Gun) developed by RUAG. The gun is 120mm smoothbore, calibre length 50, with a rate of fire of 12-14 rds/minute. 12 rounds are kept ready in the turret bustle, with a further 33 stowed in the hull rear.
*Stridsfordon 9040/56:* Prototype version of the CV 9040 equipped with the Bofors RB56 anti-tank missile. Issues with the sight alignment were unsolved and no units ordered.
*CV90120-T prototype,* from which PL-01 mockup was developed
*CV9030 Export version* with a 30 mm Bushmaster II autocannon. Adopted by Norway, Switzerland and Finland. Within BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original version of the Norwegian CV9030N is known as the CV90 MK I. The Finnish CV9030FIN and Swiss CV9030CH vehicles are known as the CV90 MK II. The CV90 MK II is also available as CV9030 COM - Command & Control Vehicle. The recently upgraded CV9030N infantry fighting, command & control and reconnaissance vehicles for Norway are known as CV90 MkIIIb, and this is the most advanced variant currently in service.
*CV9035* Armed with a Bushmaster III 35/50 cannon. Adopted by the Netherlands as CV9035NL and Denmark as CV9035DK. Within BAE Systems Hägglunds, CV9035 is known as the CV90 MK III.
*CV90105 Light tank* equipped with 105 mm rifled tank gun/turret. Designed by Hägglunds (BAE Systems) and GIAT (Nexter). A newer version features the Cockerill XC-8 turret.
*CV90120-T Light tank* equipped with a tank turret equipped with a smoothbore 120 mm gun. (RUAG 120 mm Compact Tank Gun)
*CV90 CZ Export* variant designed in collaboration with VOP CZ marketed to the Czech Republic, manned turret variant.
*CV90 CZr Export* variant designed in collaboration with VOP CZ marketed to the Czech Republic featuring a Kongsberg MCT-30 unmanned, remote controlled turret, a slightly raised hull and periscope system.
*Armadillo* - Armoured personnel carrier version built on a modular CV90 Mk III chassis. The CV90 Armadillo can be modified to become a personnel carrier, an ambulance, a command and control centre, a recovery vehicle and many other non-turreted variants at low cost due up to 80% commonality among variants. Currently, only the APC version has been built, with five delivered to Denmark for trials. (Check out the movie "Armadillo, it's a Danish movie about the Danish fighting in Afghanistan)
*CV90RWS STING* Combat engineering variant built on CV90 Mk I chassis. This vehicle can be outfitted with either a mine plow or a mine roller, and it also has a robotic arm. 28 have been ordered by the Norwegian Army.
*CV90RWS Multi BK* Mortar carrier variant built on a CV90 Mk I chassis. This vehicle is armed with a VingPos Mortar Weapon System outfitted with an 81mm L16A2 mortar. 24 have been ordered by the Norwegian Army.
*CV90 MkIV* BAE-developed upgraded variant revealed in January 2018, marketed to the Czech Republic as well as existing customers as an upgrade package. Features include a Scania engine with up to 1000 horsepower, Perkins X300 transmission, and an increased payload of 2 tonnes. The system also includes BAE's iFighting computer system, which claims to enhance situational awareness, aid decision making, improve ergonomics, and enable autonomous support and remote operation.
*CV9035NL MLU* On 13 January 2021, the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) of the Netherlands Armed Forces signed a contract with BAE Systems Hägglunds for a mid-life update of 128 CV90s of the Royal Netherlands Army, with an option for 19 further vehicles. The MLU project features a wide range of modernisations and improvements. The turret has been completely redesigned and will feature a new main gun installation, a mast-mounted 500mm extendable electro-optical sensor, Elbit Systems’ Iron Fist LD (Light Decoupled) active protection system, FN MAG general-purpose machine gun in an external pod and a twin missile launcher for Spike LRII anti-tank guided missiles.
Furthermore, the CV90s will be equipped with rubber tracks, upgraded cooling, various cyber-security improvements and updated command and control infrastructure. Construction of the new turrets will be conducted by Dutch firm Van Halteren Defence.

In my eyes it IS the best IFV on the planet.
During the war in Afghanistan, Canada looked at acquiring 108 CV90s under the Close Combat Vehicle (CCV) project. I remember reading somewhere that the plan was to acquire just the hulls only and then mount a Canadian-designed and manufactured turret with either a 25mm or 35mm Bushmaster chain gun. The idea behind acquiring the CV90s was so that they could keep up with the Leopard 2 tanks while traversing over rough and difficult terrain. The existing Kodiak (LAVIII) wheeled infantry fighting vehicles were as fast as the Leopards, but had more limited mobility.
The project never got off the ground as the war in Afghanistan ended, and the Canadian Army didn't have a continuing need for a tracked infantry fighting vehicle.
I daily drive a CV90. Especially effective in NYC road range incidents 😂

06:11 - that's not an F5V10 (sic - it's actually a FV510) Warrior IFV, that's an FV4201 Chieftain MBT.
The design decision reminds me of when RIchard Feynman was requested to evaluate the best location for armor plating for bombers returning from Japaneses bombing missions during WW2.
While the initial recommendation was to look at the fuselage to see where hits happen Richard used counter intuition and recommend armor on location not hit from AA fire. Assuming critical hits wouldn't allow bombers to return - thus the ones that did, received hits on non-vital location.
Believe this was mentioned in his book, "Surely Your Joking" it's a good example of using counter intuition.

Yup, the 40mm Bofors gun is the standard and in use on majority of CV90's in Sweden
Seing a pair of CV90 work their way through a MOUT scenario is very sobering. 40 mm is the caliber of the gun on Swedes CV 90s. In Sweden the are named STRF 9040 A, B ore C (Stridsfordon 9040) and 40 is becase the caliber of the gun.
The 40mm APFSDS can penetrate the side of T-72s and while it might not be able to penetrate frontal armor it can certainly break anything used for targeting or communication. Given the rate of fire and accuracy it's a terrifying weapon to have to fight against.
Best IFV when fighting soldiers wearing flipflops i doubt will be the best against a modern army
I'm wondering what kind of protection this vehicle has against dismounted ATGM teams. Maybe they could make drones like the Switchblade that can loiter over an area with a warhead that is packed with little metal balls, that works somewhat similar to a flying claymore mine, only with a different dispersal pattern.

Noice
Back in my day, we called them the "S" series tanks.
Because the whole country set up for defense not offence. They would dig holes out of the ground, so only the gun was protruding.
Even their rifles are limited to 20 rounds. So they can use the bipod, without hitting the ground. Sig 550 s have trigger housing that fold either way for use of mittens.
All the roadways are mined, as well their tunnels.
Like I say defense is their main objective.
Makes you wonder why it lost out to the General Dynamics light tank in America . The GD prototype has already filled up with toxic fumes when firing the gun, how did they forget to put a fume extractor on the barrel. Also like AJAX their are concerns about noise and vibration lol

The CV90 is a "Goldilocks" design - not too small and not too big. The US should get this IFV to replace the Bradleys we are giving Ukraine.
Maybe a 40 mm auto-cannon and make it a NATO standard. Again, "nit too small and not too big" to allow a good number of rounds carried.
The engine of the cv90 isn't that noisy and the swedish version got a 40mm gun.
One thing. If it was a Swedish CV90 it would have been the STRF9040, 40 denoting 40mm. So it would have been 40mm shreding the fighters to pieces

It's very much networked together with Swedens tanks as well.
The Swedish CV9040 is armed with a Bofors L70 40mm auto-cannon, firing APFSDS-T and 40MM3P ammunition, and Akeron ATGM'S. It has full, thermal and infra-red hunter/killer capability. It has data link, allowing fusion of observations, designation, targeting and IFF from ground vehicles, ground surveillance, helicopter and air force assets, manned and un-manned. It even provides the crew with a digital image of the units line of sight relative to its geographical position, allowing manoeuvring with optimal cover and concealment. It also features an active protection system, the LEDS. All in all, an impressive system.

I always hear complaints about the Bradly fighting vehicle's about the height really does not matter if you abuse defilade at that if starts putting rounds through your hatches it becomes a trade off, it has a very fast turret, i don't like remote turrets again any damage to power and your down less crew to repair any mobility kills.
Bradley IFV has 2 minor flaws:
1) ressource intensive
2) low passengers capacity
If you’re willing to deal with logistics and split up infantry squads, it’s the best combat proven IFV.
@@alexfortin7209 what does that even mean? Nice word salad Sherlock most armor its all resource intensive ITS 46 tons 600 horse power it does not sip gas not made to so even know the copacity or are you just saying its not enough we could just sit on eachothers laps REALLY pack them I there, the brady is a hot mess but I see plans within plans within plans within plans.
