Football fans generally don’t pay attention to the quality of a field that the games are being played on - unless it’s soaked in rain, snow or mud. Quite frankly, the quality of the playing surface should only matter if you’re one of the players, right?
Not necessarily. I mean, we’re in the golden era of technology, and the NFL continues to enjoy massive surges in revenue. Theoretically, every NFL stadium should have a safe, durable playing surface. But nope. Unfortunately, one-third of the league’s playing fields are in pretty rough shape, often leaving our favorite players susceptible to serious injuries.
Here is a look at the 10 worst NFL fields to play on right now.

This year, soldier fields playing surface is now Bermuda grass, replacing the awful Kentucky bluegrass. It has been used for one game so far, in a monsoon. Hopefully it holds up.
Giants stadium is bad or was bad back in the day erly 200s it was bad just like Philadelphia Eagles stadium before the Lincoln
This is the one person I actually find that uses a period.
Bermuda? For football in Chicago? That should be interesting once it goes dormant...which will happen in a few days, if it hasn't already happened.
@@craigphillips3154 that stadium is old i hered that the city of Chicago is going to redob the old stadium into the the new one that there building
@@shawnbopko858 when the Bears move to Arlington Heights, the Chicago Fire soccer team will move to soldier field, and Toyota Park (current home for the Fire) will become a concert venue
Can you make a video like this, but focusing on hardest stadiums to play in for the visiting team.
Like whether its through crowd noise, field surface, elevation, weather etc.
Just toughest stadiums to play in on the road!
the playing surface at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA also bad. Multiple teams complained that the grass was too slippery.
TLDR; it’s either stadiums with turf fields on the list or northern city stadiums with grass fields (or both). basically if your team is from the north this channel automatically puts its field on his naughty list
Sports Illustrated has Kansas City listed as 8th best playing surface. Third party guy with PHD in soil science who also polled players for their rankings and feelings on fields.
Yeah, its widely called of of the best fields...
With respect, the age of the stadium has nothing to do with the playing surface. You can rip out and replace turf in an offseason. Maybe all of these are on the bottom third of the playing surfaces, but that’s because of weather, conditions and general maintenance, not because of the stadium’s age.
Exactly what i said. The stadium may be 100 years old, but the grass isn't lol
you are correct, sir.
Yep. Lambeau may be old, but it probably has the most advanced underground turf management systems in the NFL. Their biggest issue is the weather at the start of the season is in the 80s+ but at the end of the season it is well below freezing. On top of that, throw in some heavy rain and snow at various points in the season. It's pretty difficult to keep a consistent natural field when the environment changes so drastically.
The added issues that some of the other grass fields on this list have (Soldier Field & Pittsburgh) are that they have multiple tenants during the NFL season. Those fields not only have to deal with bad weather but they also can get beat up more and don't get time to recover.
I am not sure what more Arrowhead can do... they installed a multi-million system to keep the field from freezing in thr winter.
Dome
@@natedagreat6704 Dome won't help because artificial turf is bad. I don't think Arrowhead should be in this list as it seems the only reasons is that the stadium is old and gets cold in KC. It really doesn't even get that cold most of the season.
@@stephenmg12 There is no issue with the field the video just sucks...
6:10 I’m glad it counts for something 🤔
But it still isnt an ideal field by any means.
I was just talking about MetLife as I was at the home opener for the giants the turf looks so faded and destroyed as well as the fact that the end zones are puzzle pieces and look even worst
They need to go natural GRASS!!!!
As a 9er fan, I'm very surprised to see Levis Stadium absent from this list. That field has moments of awfulness that is rarely seen elsewhere. Maybe it was just the first few years after its opening, but it sure seemed like it had a lot of problems.
It's because it didn't meet TPS' prerequisite of being 10 or more years old, which to them means the field must be bad even though the stadium age has NOTHING to do with the field. Most of the fields have been replaced multiple times.
@@markmansion aa
They made changes in recent years that have drastically improved the field quality. It's one of the better surfaces now.
Lol thank god no one’s referring to Heinz Field by its god awful actual name 😂
Arrowhead also has this weird angle thing similar to Greek theaters that amplified the noise so it’s probably one of the best tbh
wtf 😅
As a Steelers fan, THANK YOU FOR CALLING IT HEINZ FIELD. Yes, the name is now Acrisure Stadium, but thank you for using the original, BETTER name.
Love your content TPS and keep it up.
SoFi Stadium logo almost ended OBJ career😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Chicago brought in a better field and named it Justin so at least you got some improvement.
when it comes to making lists on worst stadiums let's all agree FedEx field should always remain the worst (even if it isn't football)
I think the worst playing field is fedex field.
Have you played on it?
@@le4421 no but I hear from a lot of sources that it is not a good playing field.
Biggest problem at Highmark Stadium is the awful echo....
To all those stadiums still using astroturf or any other type of artificial surface, stop being so cheap and go natural grass and if you are one of those who are indoors, use the method Arizona's State Farm Stadium uses. Artificial grass is shortening a lot of sports players careers
The very first NFL stadium to use astro turf. The Astrodome. Which is how the turf got its name.
@@jasonrandom372 I know and the reason for the name was because of the mlb team in Houston
Pittsburgh changed to turf because of the rain there, outdoor weather there isn’t the best
Jack Lambert found that out the hard way, but his legacy was already set anyways.
@@carsonleslie2984 Pittsburgh hasn't played on artifical turf at home since 2000 when Three Rivers Stadium was open.
Keep up the good work
I am a seahawks/sounders fan living near seattle and I have never seen a single turf related injury at Lumen/Centurylink in the years I have been watching seattle sports. Also, the clip you put in for Lumen shows how beautiful seattle is.
Jamal adams ? Lmao
FedEx Field needs to be burned to the ground.
Hell, if I was making the kind of obscene amounts of money these people are, I think I'd play on friggin' concrete and do it with a smile.
I was wondering where you would put soldiers field. And you didn't disappoint making it the first one on the list. 😀
FieldTurf does very well as an artificial surface.
There were several pro stadiums that have artificial turf that did not make the bad list. I noticed that Indianapolis & Cincinnati have Shaw Sports Momentum Pro artificial turf. Is it perhaps less prone to injury than other artificial turfs?
keep up the good work
In the case of MetLife stadium - You obviously didn't get all the facts:
NFL Officials have already investigated that field and found nothing wrong with it. They even went as far as stating the field met with all regulations. I trust the guys that get paid to know their business. What do YOU get paid for.
In the 2020 season - 49ners beat the Jets 31-13 in week 2 on the MetLife field and beat the Giants 36-9 on that same field in week 3. They could not have had dominant wins in back to back weeks if there was really anything wrong with that field. Show me proof that the injury was field related.
Survey studies show players get hurt just as much on the grass as they do on the turf. That's well documented - Plus the fact that Turf holds up in cold snowy weather better than grass fields that easily turns into slippery mud. Injuries takes its toll on all fields no matter what its condition is. There's just no getting around it.
It all adds up to the fact that Turf vs Grass is nothing more than a pointless debate. If I'm wrong - Show me a field that is so perfect, It's impossible for it to have injuries.
By the way - You didn't even include the grass of Levi's Stadium on your list which is 2nd worse right behind FedEx Field.
Go watch Week 1 in 2022, in Arizona, that field surface was atrocious, and is right up there with Soldier field, yet it doesn't make the list some how?
The 49ers beat both NY teams but the Stadium ended the 49ers season.
Bro the graph of fedex field injuries is ridiculous
Is it just me or does Heniz Field look older then it should be.
You mean Acrisure?
HENIZ
Idk why it’s up here, they’re bringing up moments that happens 10 years ago and not realizing that the field is good
Love your video
After last night 9-26-22, you can add Sterling Sheppard to the MetLife casualties list... I feel for the guy. I guess Kenny Golladay will get his shot to drop more passes now. As a Cowboys fan, the league is better when the Giants are good and the Giants just can't catch a break lately.
When the 2010 Raiders say your field sucks you should probably listen. They know what a terrible field looks like.
Yes let’s no forget the time Chris Boswell missed a game winner on the infield dirt. Then again Al Davis was the owner back then so idk if he knew it was bad or not
Agreed. What Oakland needs is two new stadiums; one for the A's, and another to maybe lure an NFL and/or MLS team. Unfortunately, that looks like that's not gonna happen anytime soon.
Lambeau Field in the winter is a nightmare for the away team.
How is Heinz field still on here though? Your examples are all at least 10 years old, but you're saying "now" . Wondering if you have anything more recent?
I would hate to play in the Arctic Tundra
Do top 10 player rivalries in the NFL! For example, Mike Evans Vs Marshon Lattimore!
A good portion of these are just open top stadiums with cold weather. How is any surface supposed to not freeze in cold temperatures. or get soggy or slick when its raining? Drainage can mitigate the latter a bit but this list is almost half "they should have a dome instead".
Exactly why the vikings stadium ain't on here
None of these could hold a candle to the old Veteran's stadium in Philly. That turf ended careers!
As historical as Lambeau Field is, I can't imagine it's that great of a stadium. I've never been, but the idea of the weather and old stadium amenities aren't the best in football. I would think its similar to say Fenway Park in baseball. Once you get past it's legendary status, you see a lot of flaws. But that's primarily a fan perspective. I image it's more important for the team to ensure the field conditions are good for the players and as a result good for the product. But I'd argue its more important that the fan experience is as good as possible.
Lambeau Field is the Fenway Park of the NFL!
Most of the seating is bleachers.
Same with the Steelers, they just want reasons to shit on teams like the Packers and Steelers
Nobody gives a fck
The stadium has bleachers, for most seating, but the revamp in the 90s modernized it for fans quite a bit. It’s not going to have modern amenities like WiFi and technology, but for football, it’s as good as any stadium, including newer stadiums.
I’ve never been to Fenway, but I’ve been to Wrigley. Wrigley looks and feels old on the inside, and comparing the two, Lambeau doesn’t have that old feel.
Very Interesting
Can you do a video on the best one hit wonders in the nfl?
Heinz field gets used a lot more than most stadiums. They also use it for a lot of high school games in the WIPL
True
Fax, that means it has to have a good surface and it does. They brought up a 2009 poll as evidence
Lol thank god no one’s referring to it by its god awful actual name 😂
@@mahadaalvi who would use it 💀
When you let high school and college football on heinz field the playing surface will soil
BUFFALO ISNT UPSTATE NEW YORK, ITS IN WESTERN NEW YORK
Western NY is more precise to Buffalo, but saying "Upstate NY" (covers larger area) technically isn't incorrect
whats the name of this song bc i kept hearing it on another channel
WOW... I'm surprised my Hard Rock Stadium isn't on this list - keep up the good work, Dolphins management!
💪🐬💯
Video idea- ranking every team’s secondary worst to first
What difference does it make about how old the stadium is, it's the playing surface that needs replacing
Kind of ironic that the field in a stadium named “MetLife” should be so hazardous to football players’ health. Makes it seem like “Met” here means “cursed”.
4:11
Yeah, I remember that Bermuda GRASS feild that was replaced because of games like the mud bowl. The field is turf, absolute bull crap, TPS just trying to shit on Pittsburgh for no reason
The turf was new that night. The mistake was putting new sod over the old. Heavy rain turned the thick double thick sod into a soaking wet sponge
4:18 they’ve come a long way since then. But Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field) is pretty shit. Most steeler fans remember Three Rivers fondly, mainly cuz it didn’t have an open end blowing freezing cold air off the river
Do the best playing fields for the NFL
As far Heinz field didn’t they redo that field years back? I know it was an issue for a while but they made changes since.
I'm left uncertain by this video as to how ideal Highmark Stadium is...
Oh yeah, Joe Theismann and Alex Smith's injuries were due to the playing conditions at FedEx Field. Lawrence Taylor and J.J. Watt had nothing to do with it at all. Come on, man. Not to mention Theismann never played at FedExField, he played at RFK.
And btw, RGIII got flushed out of the pocket, lost his footing and rolled his ankle. It wasn't the playing surface that did it. I remember because it wasn't an injury that you can really forget.
Bills ending got two different takes of pronunciation in one video, haha
Seems like many players hate the turf. I never played football and I even had a bad experience on turf. In the final weeks in high school, I was playing baseball on the football field in gym class, and I ran to home plate and went to slide so I didn't get tagged. What happened? My entire knee and shin got badly scraped. I've slid on dirt and grass and never had a problem. But turf, yep it got scraped.
I'm not a religious person, but I pray for all of the Commanders, and their opponents this season.
💀💀
The redskins or the commies
@@brodieandshoot3681 both
Many of these fields just aren’t that bad.
At 6:14 he says the same thing twice lmao
Pittsburgh's field is so bad the Ravens (who have to play there every year) have a field at their practice facility that's choppy and worn to simulate playing on the surface so the players get used to it. More specifically Justin tucker kicks on that surface to practice for away games in Pittsburgh.
I wonder where Lincoln Financial Field stacks up on the scale of good or bad. I know it's at least 20 years old.
The Pitt Panthers need place to call home.
Astrow turf is one of the worst and the stadium im going to say is Minnesota Vikings plus buffalo bills giants stadium Seahawks stadium is hard to play on
Heinz Field was renamed to Acrisure Stadium like a month before this video released. Get it together, TPS.
Hey man don't be dogging on heinz feild, it's acrisure now remember???
This might be a stretch, but how about a college football top 25 power rankings each week? Would love to see it!
When I went on the turf in Dallas it was good
0:52 Where did you hear that? From the city’s marketing department?
6:13 say that again?
Here’s something funny. The Oakland Coliseum actually has really good grass. So the Raiders actually kinda stepped down on the field. Just forget the dirt and the Mound for baseball
Doesn't anybody use the Prescription Athletic Turf drainage system anymore? Or did that turn out to be a bust that I didn't hear about?
All these fields are dangerous very dangerous for all players to play on so just stick to grass that's what you play football on grass regular grass
Bro just searched “oldest stadiums in the NFL” and went from that 💀
The bills just blew out the titans on the crap field
Dang i love the memes

What are the best fields to play on?
Why do most of the historic or good looking stadiums have bad fields except fed ex everything abt it is just bad
Uhhh… The saying “way back when” is supposed to be used when you don’t know or want to be specific about when something happened. So either say “way back in (year/decade/century/millenium/…)” or “way back when”.
Soldier Field is no longer a historic building. Once they turned it into a bedpan it lost all historic ratings.
5:24 Sofi is going to need natural grass to host the World Cup in 2026. I bet they use this as an excuse to switch grass soon.
The worst field to play on is Ford field if its your home field... hahahaha
I think that the bears and packers should build new stadiums to play in and have their old ones as museums
Buffalo is not in “upstate ny”. It is Western NY.
looking from the outside in (from australia) why dont more football stadiums just use real grass rather that fake/astro turf? is it a cost thing? easier to look after?
Raymond James Stadium is like playing on a Golf Course.
Owners pay so much money for players, you'd think they'd want them to play on a good surface? I mean come on, even at soldier field you could replace that with one of the high tech artificial turfs and be better off. Compared with player salary, how much could that cost?
The first 3 were grass and people complain. It's the location that dictates so much and the weather. Every stadium can't be a dome, injuries will happen every where.
people who comment first always think they did something, change my mind
Arrowhead has been using Northbridge Bermuda since 2013.
Bro this is a good vid also first
All the millions of dollars they make PER GAME and they can’t fix the turf for the players???
the turf at lumen field is good i was on it one time
Most of the list where simple no brainers and no surprises.
You can say that about any top 10. Top 10 best teams you know is gonna be bills, bucs, rams, cheifs…etc
