Colts fan here. People really don't understand what Chris Ballard has done this off-season. He has doubled-down on THE ENTIRE TEAM. They are all coming back, all the starters, every single one - including the kicker, punter, and long-snapper. I don't think there has been anything like it since the demise of the reserve clause...
Most Indy fans are in an absolute tizzy about this: the only new toy out of free agency is a rotational defensive tackle and a backup QB that is old enough to be a high school principal. There is a lot of angst. But I am 100% on this train because Anthony Richardson is coming back and that is the wild card. This team will go just as far as he carries them, and as far as injuries allow.
I think the Colts have a Top 5 coach in this league. I think their offensive line is excellent. They have a need for a burner WR and a CB and a backup RB. And Ballard is gonna take an offensive lineman because Ballard is Ballard. (Did you catch that picture of Quenton Nelson on the top of his bookshelf???)
Anyway, yeah, we'll see. Let's go, Hosses!
Fellow Colts fan here. I'm psyched for this season. Spot on with all of of Starters back! Such a rarity in this day and age! I just hope AR stays healthy. He needs to put the ball in other players' hands and let them take the contact rather than play hero ball.
I say take the best players available: O-Line, WR, CB etc. I would like to pick up a rookie QB with our last pick to sit with Flacco and as an insurance policy for AR in the future. If he goes down early in the season,I can't see Flacco being healthy all year, especially in the competitive AFC South! Defensive line threats everywhere!

Why is Alec Pierce not a burner?
Fellow Colts fan here. I think the one aspect that most Colts fans don't realize is that AR and JT never really played together at the same time. Plus, JT wasn't back to his normal self until the last month or so. Also, the reason our secondary sucked was because of starters were hurt.
We finished 9-8 without that AR/JT combo that's going to be so nasty and our starting CBs hurt for most of the season. With those additions alone, we'll be a much better team.
I'm telling you. The league isn't ready for those RPOs. Especially, if Ballard adds MHJ, Nabers or BTJ.
thank you for saying it! In Ballard we trust! There has never been a team with EVERY starter returning. There is a feeling in the air this offseason and its not just with the Colts: its with the Fever, the Pacers, IU (in basketball AND football{but lets be real}). This team is the same but theyre different. LETS GO!
And to piggy back on this sentiment; Pierce is the burner.
Minshew wasn't the QB that could get him the ball deep.
He was grossly underutilized, due to lack of deep plays.
AR was able to shoot him the ball when the opportunity was there...
I'm excited for this season!

Most underrated GM in the sport, how he managed to keep this Colts team afloat after the Andrew luck retirement weeks before week 1.

If I was a GM and Rich asked me “So who ya drafting with your first pick?” With a straight Face I’d say “a kicker”
That’s my GM!! I know he doesn’t have the best record, but that’s because Luck suddenly retired and we were forced to find a new QB every year. Now that we have AR5, it’s time to build something special around the great team that Chris has built! Plus, he’s a great guy and a good interview. He just can’t say the word, “Cement”. Annunciate the “t”, Chris. GO HORSE!!!!

AR and Steichen are our tickets to the Super Bowl. We have plenty of talent. Steichen won with Hurts. AR is way more talented.

Why, just to take risks? Wouldn’t it be smarter to just hit singles and doubles to keep the runners advancing than to strike out 10x more likely than you are to hit the occasional home-run? I agree, sometimes you need to take calculated risks when the odds are in your favor, there are no certainties in drafting or in signing free agents. But that’s why the Colts generally sign their own FAs instead of signing someone else’s- they know these players better.

he is setting up nicely. there wont be a lot of defensive players drafted before 15. i put quinton mitchell for the colts. if brock bowers will be available i dont know now.

Ballard said 2 things there: 1) It’s not my style, so don’t anticipate it. 2) It takes two to tango meaning, He doesn’t expect Arizona or anyone in the Top 3 to be willing to trade down

You got a point. He's never mentioned his nature to move back in the draft. He's trying to pull some blinders over people's eyes so he can make a massive move. At least I hope he is. If he drafted nabers or Harrison. I would change my opinion on him. I think he is too conservative of a GM.

Ballard will take brian thomas jr if hes there, thats about the range he should be and hes a freak athlete. Hes a ballard guy.
People, mostly Colts fans, love to crap on Ballard. As a longtime Colts fan, I think some people got spoiled by Bill Polian (his son not so much). Then we had Ryan Grigson, which was a disaster only mitigated by Andrew Luck only to be undone by the ineptitude of Grigson. Ballard is better than that. Some Colts fans think the grass is greener on the other side without remembering our last GM. He’s a pretty good drafter and he refuses to overspend in free agency, which we watch the Jags so every year. Texans made some moves which has some Colts fans nervous, but they also lost good players. We kept all of ours. P.S. with the way they just extended Buckner to create a lot more cap space this year, I think we will see a pretty big addition after the draft. Hopefully Justin Simmons or a trade for a DB or some sort.

Well said. We were 1 play away from a division title. We finished 9-8 with AR missing the majority of the season and JT only playing about half of it. Not to mention our secondary being banged up for 90% of the year.
Everyone will be healthy this year and we will finally get to see a healthy JT with AR. The future is much brighter than other Colts fans realize.
Ryan Grigson was a better GM then Ballard Made the playoffs more times then Ballard, a winning record, more playoff wins, more division titles. His 5 seasons are way better then Ballard's 8.

If 5-6 QBs went off the top then you know 100% unless an unreal talent was there, Ballard would trade down for like 6 additional picks in one trade 😂😂
Hell will freeze over before Ballard will ever trade UP into top 10 of 1st round. Moving down from 15 is a better play this year because Colts can still get a player with a 1st round grade to about 22nd and pick up an additional pick or two.
Ballard spending #6 on a G and over drafting Paye at 21 instead of drafting Darrisaw shows how inept he is at 1st round selections.

I don't care what anybody says you draft Marvin Harrison Jr. Michael Pittman Jr automatically turns into a wide receiver 2. Like he should be considered cuz he's not a number one.
He aggressively obtains and retains the players he wants on the team. If you let the media decide for you how a NFL GM should behave, you are going to be confused. Ballard is unaffected by fan/media demands and their lack of understanding.

Ballard and the Head Coach must be satisfied with last year's roster and expect improvement in those players and familiarity with their system. Hope Richardson adjusts his play or it will be a short career.

As a Colts fan, I'm annoyed we let Minshew go, though, he did play well and wants to compete for a starting job. I just don't trust AR to stay healthy, and neither Flacco.
In regards to the draft, take the best player available, whether a WR, TE, or OLine. Then assess our defense. And finally, draft another QB to stick with Flacco. Just in case! ;)
That last pass, was the last nail in the coffin, for Minshew. I’m glad he’s gone. We played well enough to suggest he’s a capable backup. Too much unnecessary happy feet, not enough arm strength.
I've always backed this dude, but I can't anymore. Get him outta there please...makes less and less sense every time he speaks.
Then you’re just not listening that closely anymore. It’s not like he’s going to say exactly what he’s going to do a month before the draft. Just give the Ballard 1 season with a his own QB, a real QB that he drafted, before you jump ship. This will be our year that we show big time progress! Hell, last year we went from 4-13 to 8-9 with a backup QB.

@@KodyMK I’ll admit last year we were supposed to show promise, despite having a rookie QB- and we improved by winning 4 more games than the previous year even though AR5 got hurt. If you can’t see that this season holds significantly more potential than anytime since Luck retired, either you’re blind or not a Colt's fan - and I got nothing for you. A healthy AR5, everyone knowing Steichen’s system for a full season, having a full season of Taylor, Latu rushing off the edge, returning all of our Free-Agents, Adonai Mitchell's deep-threat potential combined with Richardson’s deep-ball arm talent, our young secondary getting a year of playing experience last season, and a returning Jelani Woods at TE should all make this team more explosive. While we may not improve by 4 wins this season, we should contend for the AFC South and a wildcard if we don’t outright win the division. I’m expecting a record of 10 or 11 wins, which is pretty stout with a QB realistically getting his 1st year of playing experience. (Last year, Richardson got the equivalent experience of playing in the pre-season). Unfortunately, Houston also improved their roster and I expect the Texans to provide the most rigorous competition for the AFC South.
Previous GM Bill Polian first round picks: Payton, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, tarrick glen. All hof. Besides AR and Pittman all his picks trash
Polian didn't draft marvin or glenn. Peyton was easiest #1 pick of all time. He did draft Edge and Reggie tho.
@@CFrye55Polian drafted Edge, signed Saturday off of Ravens PS, drafted Mathis, drafted Adai, Clark, Sanders... Polian is far and away a better drafter than Ballard is.

@@CFrye55 im talking overall. Polian put players around Peyton to excel and built a defense to win with a lead. Look up Polians record first 7 years compare to Ballard.

I never said ballard was better.. in regards to 1st round picks, which is what the conversation was about.. i said polian didn't draft marvin or Tariq glenn and that manning was easy choice at #1. I also provided other first round picks that he DID actually draft.. if you're gonna chime in, just participate in the actual conversation and stop throwing out unnecessary things to feed an argument that doesn't exist.
