Man thank you. Showing the lack of side to side play sold me. Just placed my order. I had bought the makita 40v 12” GSL04m1 buying into the koolaid. The blade wobbles out of the box, and extended, there is 1/8” movement so can double the width of the saw blade in the material being cut. I’m returning it this weekend. Plus this one will end up saving me about $200 comparatively, and that was a sale price for the makita!

When I had a small (dead) tree fall I started the process of disposal by using this saw and cutting off the small branches. Then slowly work on the small trunk with undercutting and letting it fall down. With many trees on acres of land paying for a tree service can be expensive. It also is nice in that it can be used in hard to get areas like along my creek. It's also safer and quieter than a chainsaw. It obviously can't cut down massive trees but it does work fine for small ones or brush. And of course since I already own a Black

I got the DeWalt Flexvolt Miter none sliding a few years back. It has served me well, 2 batteries is annoying sometimes. I got it for $360 tool only around 2019. I am interested in buying this but I don't need it and the price is double of what I got mine.
I just picked up the saw this weekend. Mine did not come with the adapter for vacuums. The bag does fit on it as shipped. Any idea on part number for that adapter? Is there a part number for connection on the extractor hose.
I hear that a lot, however the battery life on this with one battery is pretty much all day even with a 6ah 9ah it’s mid of the next day and that’s trimming a house. I burned up many a motor on the old Flexvolt with as much cutting as I was doing. 2 - 6ah would get me to lunch time. 4 a day compared to 1 a day. I’ve yet to need the cord for it

Something that I've been trying to figure out with the 60 volt is how high is the work surface for cutting from where the tool sits. I'm looking to purchase this and wanting to see if it will sit in my current miter station or if I need to adjust the height in some way.

ive had tobuy a new 780 as ive had 2 new motors on the 120 which only lasted about 5 year the first time it broke just before the 3 year warranty ran out and the new motor only lasted about 2 years

I does not have an adapter available for it. I dont foresee it getting one either. The battery life on this saw is incredible… just having 2 batteries would last most people a week or so depending on how much you cut.

That Makita saw does look nice and I think it has the Bluetooth chip in it… little jealous of that. I’ve yet to have any accuracy issues with any of my dewalt saws… most of what I do is paint grade trim and built ins..
I’ve been using this 5 days a week for the last couple months and unlike the OG Flexvolt I’m not changing batteries every day… In my mind this will also increase the life of my batteries. Before I would go through 4 batteries a day. Now it’s 1 every couple days.
I really wanted to buy this saw - so many things to like and lightweight. Even willing to add a battery platform. The fact that there's no way to autostart dust collection is a total dealbreaker for me though. Anyone know of a possible solution? Otherwise I'll stick with 42lb DW716 that's never let me down plugged into a Festool vac, occasionally wish it could go cordless and occasionally bust out the track saw for wider crosscuts. I have one of the monster Bosch saws with the axial glide or whatever they call it setup in my garage and it's pretty great for getting tight against a wall.

I could use a remote or even a foot pedal setup to turn the vac on but I've gotten used to the vacuum turning on with the saw without that step of turning it on and it off. Surprises me that a $700 saw released in 2023 doesn't have this feature - digging deeper it looks like the European version has this capability. Anyway, I appreciate the thorough review and your response. Great video.

I don’t see how…. I’ve researched it to now avail… Looks like the Euro version does have that capability but not the US version for some reason. For now when I need a vacuum attached to it. I’m using Dewalt’s dust extractor and turning it on and off with the remote.. Hopefully they’ll come out with an adapter at some point.

Packed it so tight you couldn’t see the light anymore. I thought it was burnt out. As I replaced the light I took apart the old light I found all the dust inside of it. So other than that saw has been great zero issues with it.

They do not. At first I was disappointed in that , but having used it as long as I have. I can tell you just 1 9ah was lasting me all day long trimming a house. The original Flexvolt I used 4 6ah batteries . So if you have at least 2 Flexvolt batteries you really don’t need a cord. Also the cord was the source of a lot of issues with the older model.

The original Flexvolt really needed the corded option. I’d get a half day of cutting. Not everyone has more than 2 Flexvolt batteries and if you don’t you definitely could be waiting on batteries to charge. With the 60 I find myself not even thinking about it anymore..
Axle Glide adds like 5kg of weight to the saw. You can see this as Bosch makes the same saw with glide or rail design. Dewalt would go from 21sh to 26sh Kg in that case with is way to heavy for a site saw that u need to take out of the truck daily. In saying that if Dewalt had 2 versions like Bosch it would be awesome as us dewalt guys could have Glider for our shops and Rail for having in the truck.
I really want the new saw but the price here in the UK for a bare unit is stupid, prices sitting at around £1000/1100, around $1200/1300 for a bare unit
I see where your coming from. When I was using the OG Flex to trim houses I ended up buying a bunch of extra batteries… even then I still would forget to change them because it would burn through 2 before lunch. The battery situation could still be an issue. So having that plug in capability was nice. Now with this new saw I’m getting over double the cuts with just one battery. The amount of cuts is equivalent to me trimming a house… I can’t imagine me needing to plug this in now.. I’ve got 10 Flexvolt batteries and no need to plug this. I wouldn’t let that deter you from getting this saw. I used it most of the day today I feel like it has the same power as the 120 did.
The Toolman's told you that he doesn't foresee a problem not having a 120v plug-in option because he has soo many batteries; HOWEVER it would always be a benefit to have that 120v option for those who don't want to dump truckloads of $$$ into DeWalt's batteries. I bet that's why DeWalt nixed the 120v option- to get more battery sales. I have the DHS790 & would not trade it for this model even it were a free 'upgrade' because IMO, it would be a downgrade...

i’m a bit disappointed w the dust collection as it appeared in the video. when i read 94% i was like take my money! i work primarily w MDF using a 780 and a festool dust extractor and i bet i’m not getting 70%. if i’m cutting all day there will be a dusting on the walls floor and anything laying around for a 10ft radius and that no exaggeration however- i wonder if you were to cut into the mdf from the front instead of into it from the top of the board if the dust extraction would improve? i noticed you’re getting a lot of dust off the front of the blade as you come down into the mdf wonder if that would make a difference for me dust collection would be the key selling point over the 40v malika or the bosch profactor

Yes and maybe because it is new. It’s brighter than the OG Flex. I may make a video on that tomorrow. I wouldn’t buy a saw nowadays without the shadow line..
They are discontinuing the gen 1. The new model is superior to the gen 1 in every way. If you have the opportunity to get the gen 2 I would definitely do that. I cut all day with it today (treated decking boards) and I still have 2 out of 3 bars. It also feels more powerful than the gen 1.
60 volt does not have a corded add on. My gen 1 obviously did but I didn’t use it much. Gen 1 also had motor issues even today burnt up motors still plague the gen 1. Gen 1 gave you 310 cuts while the 60 volt doubles that. When I trimmed houses with this saw. I would regularly go through 4 batteries per day. So having a corded option was nice if I needed it. Gen 2 allows me to cut all day and then some with a single battery. So the need for a corded accessory imo is diminished.
I’ve had 5 of the 120 volts. I just had one burn up on me right before I bought this one. It’s out of warranty so I don’t see spending the money to get another 120 volt when I can just buy another new 60 volt.

had the cordless xsl06 version of it since it came out. crazy deflection in rails and no way to square up the fence. dont even get me started on the aluminum detent plate that wore out after 6 months.
The only thing stopping me from getting it is those rails that stick out the back, they could have made it with the rails on the inside like others, dumb…..
I’ve heard that the side mount rails had more deflection when tilting the saw to cut. I had hoped for a new version that you could butt right up to a wall. Didn’t get that but I’m pretty happy with this version and doubling the amount of cuts I can get.
Makita 40v looks like a nice saw. Personally I’m heavily invested in Dewalt and this saw is pretty impressive. As for dust collection… it’s important but not a deciding factor for me if I buy a saw or not. I hear a lot of people mention accuracy. I build some nice stuff and I’ve never felt that any of my Dewalt saws stopped me from building certain things because a lack of accuracy.
Since dumbass DeWalt did not make this a valid replacement for the DHS790, which has a plugin option, they NEED to make a 120v - 60v FlexVolt adapter!!
I don’t miss it to be honest. I have a decent amount of batteries to power it. The original was capable of far less cuts and there were times I didn’t have a charged battery so I used the corded option and was happy that was available if I needed it. This saw is getting over double the cuts as the original….. making it less likely I will ever have needed to plug it in.
@@toolman101476, try putting in a 12hr day continuously cutting 4x4s, 2x4x & 1x6s for 300' of fencing... & have fun wasting time swapping batteries. Again, DeWalt simply should have repeated the same formula of their previous model with a 120v Option, if needed...Options are good, amigo & DeWalt knows it. The reason they did not include it is because they want everyone to buy more batteries & even the village idiot can see that...
@@jetsetjoey What I’m comparing this to is me continuously cutting baseboard , crown and casing … all day long. It does that on a single battery. 650 cuts… that’s a lot of cuts. In your case with a 9 ah battery you change it out once a day… I don’t think that is all that bad. Would it have been a nice option ? Of course it would have.. I know many people who used the OG saw as a plug in primarily and the cordless feature just occasionally. But that isn’t where we are with this one. This is still an awesome saw without the adapter… and your doing yourself a disservice by not giving it a chance..
Lol I would maybe go see a doctor about that but I agree lol…. The gen 1 was a motor eater for sure…. They still haven’t fully fixed that issue either.. Here is my thought on this…. That motor to me looks like the big Flexvolt grinder…. I bet that is what this is with different gearing… I bet this thing will last like all the grinders and skills saws do.

Great review but I got rid of my flexvolt for the 10in Makita which is more accurate. Love the Kizen crown fence, I use that too.

With The cost of two 12-amp batteries being over 600$,it’s worth looking into upgrading.

If you use dewalt extractor it comes with the Bluetooth remote. You can wear it or mount it somewhere on the saw

This saw can be paired with flexvolt vacuum through bluetooth, Sydney tools have a video of this. Works just like Makita's AWS.

They have a cordless fence stapler… not a nailer. For siding you can by a special tip to use the cordless roofing nailer.

What I have done was run the dust extractor with the watch band
To cut it on and off which is fine but it would be alot nicer if it did it automatically

To be fair, dust collection is much better when making slower cuts.
With the vac on it was bad… it is definitely better than my shop Dewalt with a vacuum for sure.

They are discontinuing the gen 1. The new model is superior to the gen 1 in every way. If you have the opportunity to get the gen 2 I would definitely do that.
I cut all day with it today (treated decking boards) and I still have 2 out of 3 bars. It also feels more powerful than the gen 1.

60 volt does not have a corded add on. My gen 1 obviously did but I didn’t use it much. Gen 1 also had motor issues even today burnt up motors still plague the gen 1.
Gen 1 gave you 310 cuts while the 60 volt doubles that.
When I trimmed houses with this saw. I would regularly go through 4 batteries per day. So having a corded option was nice if I needed it.
Gen 2 allows me to cut all day and then some with a single battery. So the need for a corded accessory imo is diminished.
My 120 volt burn out on me this week maybe it's time for a new one instead of replacing the motor
I’ve had 5 of the 120 volts. I just had one burn up on me right before I bought this one. It’s out of warranty so I don’t see spending the money to get another 120 volt when I can just buy another new 60 volt.
I'm guessing you cant plug it in to a receptacle anymore if you had to.

@@toolman101476 yeah if you have the extra batteries. I dont understand why they cant make the adapter for a single battery port an option. Metabo hpt didnt have a problem with it.
They copied the Kapex with that vertical height position
I would buy the makita, 1019 I think the rail design on the Dewalt is dated.
Never used the Makita but I’m loving this saw the more I use it. Power, battery life is unbelievable..
had the cordless xsl06 version of it since it came out. crazy deflection in rails and no way to square up the fence. dont even get me started on the aluminum detent plate that wore out after 6 months.
The only thing stopping me from getting it is those rails that stick out the back, they could have made it with the rails on the inside like others, dumb…..
I’ve heard that the side mount rails had more deflection when tilting the saw to cut. I had hoped for a new version that you could butt right up to a wall.
Didn’t get that but I’m pretty happy with this version and doubling the amount of cuts I can get.
Go makita 40v guys you won't regret more accuracy and dust collection, 1 con is a bit heavy but comes with way more advantages
Makita 40v looks like a nice saw. Personally I’m heavily invested in Dewalt and this saw is pretty impressive. As for dust collection… it’s important but not a deciding factor for me if I buy a saw or not.
I hear a lot of people mention accuracy. I build some nice stuff and I’ve never felt that any of my Dewalt saws stopped me from building certain things because a lack of accuracy.
Since dumbass DeWalt did not make this a valid replacement for the DHS790, which has a plugin option, they NEED to make a 120v - 60v FlexVolt adapter!!
I don’t miss it to be honest. I have a decent amount of batteries to power it. The original was capable of far less cuts and there were times I didn’t have a charged battery so I used the corded option and was happy that was available if I needed it.
This saw is getting over double the cuts as the original….. making it less likely I will ever have needed to plug it in.
@@toolman101476, try putting in a 12hr day continuously cutting 4x4s, 2x4x & 1x6s for 300' of fencing... & have fun wasting time swapping batteries. Again, DeWalt simply should have repeated the same formula of their previous model with a 120v Option, if needed...Options are good, amigo & DeWalt knows it. The reason they did not include it is because they want everyone to buy more batteries & even the village idiot can see that...
@@jetsetjoey What I’m comparing this to is me continuously cutting baseboard , crown and casing … all day long. It does that on a single battery. 650 cuts… that’s a lot of cuts. In your case with a 9 ah battery you change it out once a day…

Would it have been a nice option ? Of course it would have.. I know many people who used the OG saw as a plug in primarily and the cordless feature just occasionally.
But that isn’t where we are with this one. This is still an awesome saw without the adapter… and your doing yourself a disservice by not giving it a chance..

Lol I would maybe go see a doctor about that but I agree lol…. The gen 1 was a motor eater for sure…. They still haven’t fully fixed that issue either..
Here is my thought on this…. That motor to me looks like the big Flexvolt grinder…. I bet that is what this is with different gearing… I bet this thing will last like all the grinders and skills saws do.
I got 6 years out of my first generation. Just went out today. Although I have some older underwear, I'd say that's a good average age, so I can confirm your statement!
