    In this video, we unbox and setup a 12in Sliding Miter Saw from Dewalt. This saw was AMAZING right out of the box, and a couple months in it is going strong. We love it so much!!! I had to get a 60T blade as the 32T that came with mine was not supposed to be in the box, and Lowe's was kind enough to switch it out for me at no charge (Look into your specific deal).
    This model is the one WITHOUT the built in LED light, wasn't something I needed. As far as I know, this saw is Identical to that one other than for the LED light (DWS780)

    I've used other (10" saws) previously and was pretty surprised with the speed and cutting ability of this Dewalt saw.I have bolted mine to a table to minimize movement which I highly recommend.This is a Great saw czcams.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe with a light to see your cutting line (not a laser line).I'd recommend this saw fro anyone looking to upgrade from a 10" miter saw.

    Thanks for the video. Was trying to acclimate to a saw Just purchased. S779 saw used with stand from a local retired carpenter. $150 - Sat for a year. A bit packed with saw dust. Cut really good from the start with a dewalt 60T that it came with. Also purchased a Bosch 4100 table saw ($150) from him that just needed new bearings. Since the dewalt was used alot, I busted into the motor on that and am replacing two of the bearings on the armature that had small signs of wear. Not horrible but maybe on its way out in a years time. Repacked the gearing behind the blade with grease. She should be running top notch this week when all my bearings come in. I bought a new Kobalt 12" and stand a year ago but this dewalt might be my replacement from here on out. Pretty solid saw.

    Great video. These are indeed great saws and I love mine. However, it should be noted that the DWS779 has gone through at least three production versions at the time of this response ... Type 20, 21, and 22 now being the latest. Each production version has obsoleted (ended production of) the prior version. However, you will not find information concerning the production version Type on the product's packaging. The production version Type may only be found on the label affixed to the upper surface of the saw's motor. Suffice it to say that all DWS779 saws are not the same and you have to dig deeper than the model name. When initially produced, the DWS779 and its $200-$250 more expensive sibling, the DSW780, differed only in that the latter featured an LED shadow cut line light (XPS Light). While the DWS779 Type 20, possibly Type 21, and DWS780 may have all of the features shown within this video, the DWS779 Type 22 production version lacks at least following features:
    - the bevel stop pawls
    - slide stop lever.
    I can only surmise that these production changes were introduced to drive down production cost to make it more competitive, profitable, and provide greater differentiation between itself and the DWS780. It should be noted that many had been turning their DWS779 saws into full DWS780 saws by adding an aftermarket LED shadow cut line light for less than half of the cost differential between these two saws. Given this information, should the bevel pawls and slide stop lever be must have features for you, then you will need to purchase the DWS780 rather than the DWS779. Please additionally note that the DWS779 Type 22 saw has no provision to accept the bevel pawls or slide stop lever parts from the DWS780 or DWS779 Type 20/21.

    Misses the most important part of setting up the saw. First thing in the directions is to make sure the saw is cutting the angle it says it is by checking the angle of blade and adjusting the scale. My saw came out of the box almost 2 degree off. Make a straight cut and check with a framing square. If off follow the first section of instructions to adjust scale to read proper angle.

      The 32 tooth blade is what you want when you’re building decks and any type of framing. It cuts through the lumber faster with less strain on the saw motor. The more teeth you have on your blade the more it will gum up when cutting through pressure treated lumber. I personally have both blades so I will be prepared for any job I want to do.

    For sure I know DeWalt is way better, and probably a little way more expensive, besides is a dual bevel saw.
    But for home projects, would a Ridgid miter saw do the work???

      @TheToughGuysTV  Pƙed rokem +1

      It really does come down to a personal preference and where you’ll have it setup to use. I personally have had terrible luck with Ridgid miter saws, but my Dewalt was awesome. I currently use a saw by Evolution - I have a video here on the channel def check that out if interested. Good luck in your search!

      I think I will get the DeWalt, I have seen more positive reviews from DeWalt buyers and Im convinced it would be my best option.
      Thank you very much for your recommendation.

    Great tutorial! Thanks! Now I'll know what to do with my Christmas gift! It has so many features that are better than the Ridgid saw. I've used the Ridgid for 6 years, and lately have had lots of trouble with the blade guard getting in the way. Hopefully, the DeWalt will perform much better!

      KDFROST1 the metabo isn’t a sliding miter saw. The dewalt is probably one of the better saws you can get, especially at that price. I probably won’t use mine for awhile, because I have so many projects to do lol. But if you find one, I’d spring for it. Tools tend to pay for themselves!

    Question if you can answer: There is a screwhole for a screw right next to your left index finger knuckle at about 2:55. Any idea what the screw that goes there is for? Our saw came with that screw in place and I have no idea what the screw is for. Thanks for this video, I think we watched it to see how to swap out the blade when we bought the saw a couple years ago. Been working great.

    The DWS779 is exactly the same as the DWS780. The difference is the price and the LED light. The DWS780 costs a lot more and comes with the LED light. You can add the LED light to the DWS779 for about $70 with shipping. Dewalt does not sell the light kit for the DWS 779 but another company does.
    www.mmtoolparts.com/store/miter-saw-upgrade-kit-dewalt?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvdXcvpT55QIVCaGzCh1WRQxVEAAYASAAEgIuavD_BwE
    I bought and added this kit to my DWS779 and love it. I had the light kit on and older Dewalt model and loved it. The light sits directly above the blade and casts and accurate shadow on the wood, teeth and all. This gives you a highly accurate view of where the blade will cut the wood and never needs adjusted or calibrated like some laser lines.
    They also posted a video on how to install the light kit that is very well made.

      I noticed some wording in the instruction booklet, it could have since been updated. Honestly, from what Ives learned since this video, you’re probably good to go w/ the 32T blade but def consider going with Diablo / Freud or equivalent upgrade anyways. The Dewalt blade won’t last longe either way. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    OK, someone tell me what I am missing here.
    I am a DIYer, but not the average type. I buy distressed foreclosures and fix them up. I am still in the "DIY" category because I do not "flip." I live in these homes and fix them while I do. The house I am in right now I have lived in for 13 years, and I am just now finishing the remodel on the final bathroom. I give the whole house a "make it livable" makeover, and then take my time going back and doing it right, room by room.
    All that is to describe my skill level, and my usage of tools. Those tools: I married DeWalt 20 years ago. Everything I own is black and yellow. So I use only professional grade tools.
    When I went to buy my Miter saw, I saw two choices. A single bevel 12 inch for $300, and this dual bevel for almost $700 (both DeWalt, of course). I thought to myself "what do I GET for that extra $400?" The only advantage I could see is that I would not have to flip the wood over to reverse the cuts. That was not nearly enough to justify me spending an extra $400, so I went with the $300 7485.
    I am open to finding out when I am wrong. What am I missing here?

    • @TheToughGuysTV
      @TheToughGuysTV  Pƙed rokem +1

      Not sure I’d pay up for a difference that large honestly unless you’re a trim carpenter or cabinet / furniture maker by trade. When I purchased it was not that big of a gap, so I opted for the model with more capabilities.
