Evolution in painting is one of those things I have mixed feelings about. Clearly we improve our craft with time, but stark differences in style or method can make our older miniatures look slightly out of place. I don't know if I care enough to go back and touch up the older figures to bring them more in line with my more recent style, though.
My favourite place in Kyoto was the Temple of the Silver Pavilion with the moon viewing platform in the garden. The Temple of the Golden Pavilion is good also but a modern reconstruction after the fire that Mishima described. The Nijo palace is also interesting - try walking over the "nightingale floors" without making a sound, it takes ninja skills to do so. Osaka is much busier and noisier and the historic sites tend to be swallowed up by the bustle of a big city.
Thanks for the recommendations. I was sadly working most of the time, though I did get a chance to visit Nara with some colleagues and be assaulted by the beggar deer. Perhaps next time I will get more of a chance to enjoy Kyoto.
@@ZenMiniPainting Ah yes - I remember those deer, though I did purchase the wafers that Japanese write prayers on and fed them with those, so perhaps they treated me more kindly.
Really enjoy your updates. Fantastic. Keep them up. I know it isn’t always the easiest. In fact I’ll be launching a new video today. Promised Frazier to put up my winged hussars today. Ferocious beasts 😵💫
Oh my goodness! How have I missed your channel, Kevin!?! Fantastic videos, which I am now catching up on. Thank you for watching my rather meagre efforts, I am humbled.
@@ZenMiniPainting don’t be humbled. I think your channel is brilliant. It’s nice because it’s showing your life. I feel connected to you through your videos. It’s funny I was born in Bakersfield, California. My family lived in Oildale, and I lived up on the Heights. Most of my early life, and how I was connected to Wargaming came from living in Bakersfield. I moved away from there, and moved to Europe. You can already see the connections forming between the two of us. Maybe if you’d like we could connect and have a chat on the phone sometime I would like that.
I will be finishing. My ancient Spanish armies probably by the end of this weekend. I have been working on them since July and I’m nearing completion. Just doing highlights now but will send you a premier copy of the video. You should have it done soon.
Your work rate is immense. I've been catching up on some of your earlier videos, and that Viking Saxon video was something else. I think a tutorial of your style would be mega helpful. I take it you block colours, then shade with soft tone and highlight, but it looks so very good. I almost don't believe that is how you get it done :)
Well! I generally undercoat figures in black, but have been experimenting lately with speed paint, which only work best with a light undercoat. Not so sure I am sold on those for 15 mm. But I generally do a light light gray or white dry brush. I generally pick out a color palette before I start Based on historical clothing or whatever I feel I’d like it to look like. I then start with a basic color. White, blue, green. I paint inside out. Paint flesh etc. when the figure is covered I then apply an army painter wash. Thinned down. Then highlights of that basic color. Lighter blue , red etc for color. Highlight flesh etc. I do batches of 250 figures. For me generally the trick is before I do the highlights a Mountain on the bases and really just hit the highlights as those things you can actually see. Cuts the work down by 50% and nobody ever notices.
The Spanish army that I’m working on the hard part it’s always the shield. Bad I have a video I made of me a painting 850 Saxons in three weeks. I think I did that one in June or July. I can’t remember.
Ja, I saw that one, really inspiring. I've been using a black with white highlight for my 6mm stuff and it works well, but always shied away from washes because I was trying to keep things bright. That said, only used dark and strong tone, never tried light. Will give that a whirl on the next batch.
A great selection troops there David, the early stuff matches up perfectly.

I bought the same crackers. Perhaps mine were defective? Or the deer have become entitled?
Some excellent projects on display
Thank you Seano. Been trawling through your catalogue of videos, and your 6mm collection is indeed something to behold.
Thank you much appreciated@@ZenMiniPainting
Cool figures. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching.

By the way, I do have a very nice videos on all of the Roman armies, and on the Carthaginian, which you might find quite interesting.
