You forgot about Teddy Roosevelt, who was also shot, and famously he finished his speech after being shot instead of going straight to the hospital.
For like 2 hours lmao
Thanks for refreshing my memory
Well this one here, others got hurt and died, adding the fact that security is far more serious and controlling today I doubt it could have continued, but with how much of a ego Trump is he probably would've used it for a massive PR boost.

Unfortunately Garfield did get shot on a Monday. However he did have a nice lasagna as his last meal.
🤔
Kinda weird map. Colombia has one of the highest rate of political assassinations
As a Filipino I also find the map strange. Assassinations of village leaders or anyone vying for village positions is fairly common. Last year a provincial governor was ambushed in his home and killed. One of the most significant events in our history was the assassination of a former senator after arriving from exile in the United States. The map makes it appear as if none of these matter.
🗿
also nepal and bhutan had assassination? bengladesh?
But never a President, almost always a candidate
He’s only looking at like presidents
didnt the dutch eat their prime minister once?
Prince William I, the leader of the Dutch revolt that resulted in Dutch independence was also assasinated.
also pim fortuyn got shot and killed. the map isn't very accurate and i would take it with a grain of salt.

To be fair, we are comparing nations centuries old to ones decades old.
Fun fact about Spencer Percival (I used to work in for an MP and did tours of Westminster Palace for guests): After he was shot, onlookers recalled him as having said "I have been shot and I am dying!". The doorkeepers still quip to this day that this is the only time an MP has told the truth in Parliament.
Bush did survive an attempt in Tbilisi Georgia, wherein someone tried throwing a grenade at him… he also had a shoe thrown at him once…

map is a bit dodgy. it doesn't show any timeline and it doesn't show what assassination entails.
assassination of a head of state, assassination of a politician or assassination of a important figure? it doesn't say.
This is what I was thinking. 2 MPs have been assassinated in UK within the last decade.
probably just the president or prime ministers
India also had 2 assassinations, Indira Gandhi in '84 and Rajiv Gandhi in '91
Rajiv gandhi wasn't prime minister when he was assassinated so they probably didn't count it for that reason.
Yeah what’s this stupid coup thing?

1:13 He had an AR-15.
Sri lanka had more than 1 assassination. 1 president and 1 prime minister( when prime minister is the head of state before 1978)
Brazil had a assaination attemp on Bolsanaro , he was stabbed right ? I remember that news clearly
I think it was during his campaign, before he became president
Not a fan of ibx2cat's anti-assassin propaganda smh
Mexico had 36 last month , for their presidential run not so , crazyyy
Those don’t count for this since they were not presidents
It's not just that people in the US "don't believe" a third party can't win. The system we use to elect a president makes it nearly mathematically impossible for a third party candidate to win. The only way it could be possible is if every person who wanted to vote third party did, there was only one third party candidate, and said third party candidate was popular among both democrats and republicans. Even if that all happened, they would still need to win a plurality of the vote in enough states to get 270 electoral votes.
Also I feel like it's fair enough to say a guy who said he'll "be a dictator on day one" wants to be a dictator. Even if it's hyperbole, it's a horrible thing for a president to say.

In the map what is that diamond shaped country between south sudan and ethiopia?
Found it on the original Reddit post. The original poster says the diamond is just a bug. But the map is from five years ago so who knows if it’s up to date

Shinzo Abe was definitely talking to him
There has been 4 political murders in Finland but if we'ere counting the heads of state then 1 or none depending on how you look at it. The Governor-General Nikolai Bobrikov was assasinated in 1904. The Governor-General was the head of the senate and the chief of staff of the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland under Russia so technically he is the head of state of Finland under the Tzar of Russia who he answeres to.

although no assasination in Canada, In Québec alone there was 2 assasination attempts on Quebec prime ministers (Pauline Marois in 2010s and Rene lévesque in 1970s, not including minister kidnapping and assasination under the FLQ) both of these prime ministers were in favour of quebec independence and was a partial motive behind the assasination attempts

Its just seems so 20th century. Its like something from history before the Berlin wall came down.
Things like that arnt meant to happen now.
That map is missing preemptive ones though. For example, in the Netherlands Pim Fortuyn in 2002 was doing really well in the elections and likely to win. He was however extremely controversial, and dealt with by someone.
There has never been a coup in the history of india so idk why india is red instead of magenta, coz there have been multiple asassinations
Wasn’t there an attempt on Andrew Jackson as well?

13:10 Ok but Trump's team does want to use the courts to give the president unprecented power though. The whole president is immune for official acts thing is huge in that respect
Teddy Roosevelt
Olof palme a former Swedish primeminister was assassinated in 1986. Anna lindh swedish former Minister of Foreign Affairs got assassinated in 2003. So yeah it happens, it shouldn't happen at all
Idk about the situation but how the heck Denmark have red colour and Greenland doesn't? That's confusing me way too much.
Greenland is its own nation that is apart of the Kingdom of Denmark…
Denmark handles foreign relations and finances the government of Greenland…
So Denmark is the list because of 4 kings killed during the jeg middel ages (1137-1286). I think that a poorly thought out list.
Chile not on the list? Salvador Allende killed by bombing by air force as part of military coup. Mozambique not on the list? Samora Machel killed in aircraft crash after the aircraft got lost and ran out of fuel due to bogus navigation beacon transmissions from South Africa.

Did you know that Jodie Foster was actually twelve years old in the movie Taxi Driver
Morocco had 2 assasinations
I'd guess it is pretty much tied to a heavily polarized society, mental health issues of modern society and omnipresent gun ownership. Now onwards to watch this video and see what the Cat has to say on this topic.
What about Andrew Jackson? He nearly killed his own would be assassin. IDK why Wiki does not talk about it as it is a crazy story with the president being 66 years old at the time and again beating his assassin with in an inch of his life.
Also Americans will use centimeters and millimeters to emphasize a small unit. We use it because we know is that they are smaller than inches, most American in elementary school had a 12 inch ruler with centimeters on the other side so most of us know they exist and that they are smaller than inches through that,

Hello brother, as a fellow brazilian I really want to know where you took your info from. First, it is very uncommon for referees to be targeted outside football fields, literally 0 have been killed in the last 15 years.
Secondly, in 2018 bolsonaro got stabbed by a left-wing partizan during a rally in front of thousands, it was widely recorded and widespread.
So, as per usual, lots of wrong/misinformation about South American countries.
also, I have a MBA in History and am a brazilian who speaks english. If you ever need help confirming facts about brazil, feel free to hit me up.
Thats not a successful assassination right? Also I only learned the case of Otávio Jordão da Silva Cantanhede yesterday so it stuck with me lol
The U.S. also uses centimeters
That map is utterly wrong. Why watch a video when the basic information is incorrect?
13:40 The problem with saying that it's not the case that people will get hurt if a certain person is chosen as President ignores a lot of people who _have_ gotten hurt _directly_ because of who the person in charge was. I don't think I need to say the thing that hurt literal millions more people in 2020 than it should've because of a lacklustre reaction by the people in charge. I don't think I need to point out how many more women and girls have died since SCOTUS undid a certain ruling such that we now need to make sure the previous ruling is enshrined into law. I don't think I need to point out the minorities who certain candidates want to encourage hurt towards, particularly in 2025, if they manage to win. Who the President is, at least with certain current options, does _directly_ impact the safety of literally millions of people.
Now I just have to hope I worded this comment tamely enough for the CZcams automod to not come down on it 🫠

too political man what the hell
There's been a history of outlandish rhetoric during America presidential campaigns, starting off with our first election after Washington with Adams and Jefferson. In modern terms though, it def seemed to have picked up with Trump during the 2016 campaign, the change in how candidates act compared to even 2012 was wild. Imo this is coming back around to him based on all his pretty frequently extreme exaggeration and fearmongering, things like Jan 6 happening, saying there was mass fraud during the 2020 election and trying to overturn it, etc.
probably should've mentioned in the video that refusing the results of democracy is worse than refusing to participate lol
I'm sure the media calling him "literally hitler" for the past 8 years nonstop has nothing to do with it.
I'm sure calling Trump a threat to democracy and a dictator that must be stopped at all cost ect. had nothing to do with this.
@@bgonzales817 @roshansundar6618 I concur it likely contributed to the assassination attempt. Sadly, he and the right wing media like Fox have also contribute to many instances of violence. I believe this is coming around to him by the increasingly toxic political environment he has strongly contributed. The discourse between candidates greatly altered after the 2012 election and he most certainly was the one who fostered much of that change.
I also concur with the narrative that he is a threat to the democratic process given he actively tried to subvert the 2020 US election and imo clearly knows there was no issues that warranted such a response or his ego is so huge his mind literally rejects the idea he could've lost, I just do not agree with using violence for political means

I hate trump.p but this list is a little unfair. US is the oldest democracy on earth and technology, particularly in firearms and the wealth to own a single firearm, is skewed towards the US
Look up the age of the british parliament :)
the us is one of the youngest democracies on earth the oldest is greece in BC times. Americans think they invented everything. Even modern democracy wasnt invented in the us it was the brits
US is far from the oldest democracy
Does not mark JFK as a coup. Further opinion disregarded.
and the us still refuses to vote for a third party
The Republican options other than Trump are Ron DeSantis and Nicki Haley, so this could've been really bad

Listening to foreigners try to talk about guns is so cringe I'm sorry brother I love you but your gun knowledge is at rock bottom and it's hard to listen to. :[
One thing that is incredibly different between this time and the other examples you've used, is that the President of the US now has full immunity from even being investigated, for anything he can claim is "within his official duties" which, when you're president, you can make the argument that basically everything he can do that would be bad, can fall within those, as they are not defined at all in the courts ruling. Originally, the president wasn't meant to be above the law, but this ruling has completely thrown that out, and basically is a big middle finger to the rest of the constitution. You also have to note that there's an ammendment that says people who have taken part in insurrection can't hold office, yet Trump is no longer able to be investigated for that, because he and his lawyers know they would lose that, so they had to beg for the Supreme Courts decision to be in their favour in order to even be able to hold office again.
Your line of "they didn't end the country because they didn't realize they could" has to be an old way of looking at the US. Because this ruling now actually allows them to completely ruin it. It's absolutely insane that this ruling came from a "conservative" and "textualist" court, when it is anything but.
