  • United Composites, formerly Graphite USA, has been around since the 1990's but was an undiscovered mystery producer of rods for much of that time. These days they are emerging as the premier USA producer of quality fishing rods. Visit CharkBait for more information on these fishing rods. Please support our channel by visiting www.charkbait.com. This video attempts to provide some background of the company, it's roots, and a brief discussion of what they produce and what makes their fishing rods unique in the industry.

    Even though you're a proclaimed "just a fisherman" your historical & technical
    explanations of fishing gear is second to none on today's market of equipment
    of what I want to fish. Maybe the next time I fly in from Florida you or one of
    your staff will speak first in order to get the ball rolling (San Diego).

    Around a year ago, under a different youtube name, I asked Mark about Cousins rods (as I bought a couple at Fred Hall). He replied with an essay about the company and made several predictions... Every prediction he made happened. I wish I hadn't deleted that account just so people could see that Mark called everything exactly dead on with that company. The man is an Oracle. When he talks, we all need to listen. Thanks, Mark

      Hmm, thank you for your kind words. If you don't mind, can I copy this and send it over to my wife? Might gain me some latitude when I pop off with something she's not inclined to buy into...
      Cousins was a pretty easy call, but I had help from Peter Williams (the Aussie who brought GUSA back to life and changed the name to UC). Peter was first to state the obvious, similarly with his take on Seeker under their new owner (who moved on after destroying that firm and found another buyer). I'm not so smart, I just try to listen well when smarter and more experienced folks have something to say.

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  Před 5 lety +3

      40# on top... Surface iron and bait, I'd probably go Monster. You are wasting a good deal of line capacity going 80# on a reel that you plan to fish 40# on. I'd suggest running 50# or a max of 60. No point in 80 other than needlessly using up capacity. If the intent was 40-50#, then the Del Mar is well worth considering, excellent iron rod. Neither is great for deeper drop iron, I'd opt for a 7 footer for that application.

    Really informative video. I’m very happy with my UC’s. Will you do a segment on the GP series?

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh the GP's... Randy should have waited a couple years to do these...my personal opinion from a marketing standpoint. Basically, he took one of the design components of the Challenger Platinum's, the additional woven carbon from the shoulders down to add more stiffness to that area of the blank. Taking a US blank and adding one more ply of material, 5 ply vs 4 ply of the US series (the CP's are six ply). UC's claim is that this bumps up the line class of the rod by one level. That's not my take, but the additional material does make the rod more suitable at the upper end. So, for an RUS Predator UC rates the rod at 50-80#, RPG stated as a 50-100. It ain't no 100# stick, but now it's a better 60-80. The standard RUS Predator is a dandy 50-60 for most of us, 80 being a stretch. That's from my perspective, my pull as a somewhat aggressive fisherman in terms of drag setting...

    Hi there. Looking for a 10' rod for casting surface iron jigs for yellowtail

    Thank you.

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  Před 5 lety

      Both great rods...both cover light iron well. I'd probably look at the Monster as more of a 40# piece with the Del Mar capable of going heavier. Tady C's up to a 45 the Monster can cover, while the Del Mar loads up better with 45's and Salas 7's. Pure iron work, I lean towards the Del Mar, mixed with some bait the Monster.

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  Před 4 lety

      We try to keep them in stock. Right now we have a few 9 footers, a full complement of 8 and 10 footers. 9's are in process of production, may have more in here this week but best to check. Some of that production will be going to back orders. Demand greater than supply, Randy at UC is pushing production as he has been all thru the summer. If you're looking to pull on a rod, best to call first if it's a long drive. But, we'll have a range to pull on and get an idea of action with, all relevant models, just a chance we won't have the right length or build on hand. As the right match, it's a matter of the line test being used and more accurately the drag setting with which the rod will be used. That determines the correct model.

  • @tonysmucker3797

    in your opinion, at what drag loads would be an upper limit in strength for a deckhand attachment(just a reel clamp), compared to a composite reel seat(without a clamp), composite reel seat(with a clamp) and I assume an alps duel lockdown being the strongest?

    • @CharkBaitUSA
      @CharkBaitUSA  Před 4 lety

      Good question to ponder on a Sunday... Folks approach things differently based upon personal experience and need. To me, a deckhand style rod has some advantages in terms of casting distance, and a downside in terms of leverage once you get bit. So, again from my perspective, I'd say a deckhand option is great for up to 50 lb lines and perhaps 20 lbs of drag. A good reel clamp, better yet a clamp that spreads the pressure over a greater area like we offer with a couple after market clamps on our site (www.charkbait.com) reduce the wobble, increase the security of connection, up to the level of a standard reel seat whether composite or not. That's my take, others can differ and still be very right based upon their own experience. There's a weakness with the deckhand's connection with the reel compared to a traditional reel seat, but it's something that can be compensated for and worked around, thus gaining some benefit in casting distance. Would having a reel seat installed on a long deckhand style rod be beneficial? That's something we can do with many of our United Composites rods, and it overcomes connection weakness. But, still, the deckhand rod allows reel placement to vary, and there are times that positioning may be beneficial to an angler, too.
