You mother is a fantastic laminator. She is better than 95% of all CZcams sailing/Boat channels I have watched, and that's a lot. Way to go Mom 💫👍

It definitely shows and is pleasurable to observe. Y’all are a sweet and interesting couple of good eggs as we say in the flatlands of Texas. Have a good time visiting Iris. She looks like a keeper!!! Be safe and catch yas later.
Not just what he is doing but the future life the work promises to provide to his family. A man does not work this hard just for himself! As a single bloke Duracel could have been repaired and on the water in a year with ongoing projects if it was just for me. Making it into a cruiser would have been Galley, Head, Keel and Rigging. Making it a family livable home that can travel the world this is the future he can see.
My first new catamaran had one engine and the opposite side of the boat the hull was fitted out, took 2 years to finish it on the water and the last 3 months before sale it got the second head, motor and the full solar fitout and all the furnishings. Yes the best condition it was in was when i was selling it as I was moving back to land for a girl (should have kept the boat, wrong girl).

You should be so proud of Matt! Not only because of his skill. His vision. His patience, His relentless mental focus, His incredible energy, and he also possesses a quality that I think is very rare, he is a perfectionist but he also has the ability to take things in stride. Kinda chill. Those qualities don’t usually show up together. Kinda like an accountant and a sales professional. Rarely qualities that one person possesses. Anyways. Keep up the good work yourself on the videotaping and editing. I can’t wait to see final outcome.

Thank you Matt for explaining why you put the wider layer of fiberglass cloth first and then the narrower layer last. As you were narrating what you were doing, I was asking myself why you would do it that way, and less than 5 minutes later you explained yourself, so thank you.

The lamination illustration is great, showing the wider layer below the narrower one, and why. It's the opposite of, say, filling a hole in the hull, where you would grind away the surrounding area on an angle, then fill in with smaller layers first, building out to larger ones. Well done!

Matt, please consider getting some knee pads, either wearable ones or pads you lay down before sitting on them. Saves you from having to get a new pair of knees once the boat's finished. Hard fibreglass isn't exactly easy on your joints if you sit on them, especially with powertools vibrating away at both your body and the floor you're sitting on.

Don’t you think still using the name of a commercial profit making organisation of which we know nothing is full of risk? When I think of Duracell I first think plastic packaging, I bought a pack of double A Duracell batteries a couple of weeks ago and they have a plastic blister on cardboard pack which is an unnecessary single use of plastic which is the bane of the oceans. Millions of marine organisms are dying because of plastic ingestion, here in Australia thousands of Shearwater birds migrate to the Arctic each year and this year thousands washed up on the beaches dead, autopsies showed plastic ingestion. For the love of the oceans I think using the name of a company that adds to that pollution would not be a good fit for Matt and Jani’s wonder boat.

Glad to see you preserve your lungs and more with care. Been partially raised in a French small town in Normandy where the local factory built brakes pads using abestos...No need to add anything else, I guess. Using a full face respirator, changing cartridges frequently, avoiding contact with bare skin, I wish all the builders follow your example.

Over time, this Duracell project, have become the one I can not miss, among my 150 other projects around the world...Slowly, but surely, the well made videos and the actual project, is on my top list....

There are some dust filters for that type of facemask you got. They are considerably more comfortable because they are lighter and easier to breathe in, then the combined dust and gas’s filters you got. They are very nice for grinding.

Somehow I feel like you are channeling Mike's crazy focus and obsession back into the boat. I often think of the overbuild of the boat and so happy that you are keeping that going. I think a lot of people would have just chainsawed and slapped crap together in a make do fashion. Beautiful work by you week in and out.
I've watched every episode, and I found you from the beginning. I'll miss next week's episode. I admire Matt for two things: firstly, because he is an extremely hard worker. I suspect he is motivated. Most of the work Matt does looks interesting and satisfying. But that sanding job, I would have put that off because it's nasty. Secondly, Matt married far above his pay grade. I admire anybody that can do it. I did it too. Thirdly, he has a great mother. When is her birthday and what will you gift her?

Ugh... I could feel the pain of overhead grinding. I did that on our Catalina 30: we refinished the entire interior and it was really hard!! Good job, and I can promise that you'll never have to do this kind of refit again... lol because you'll refuse to!😅 Our new boat is a J-133, which is a high performance cruiser with a lot of similarities you're aiming for (even if in theory when not in shape).
