Thank God they're now showing movies in 2023 they're open u can actually going to watch a movie right now
What a good use for a old movie theatre
I had been to this theater once in the mid 1980’s to see Back To The Future in late July 1985 on my 15th birthday with my mother and sister.
That so cool! I remember loving that movie so much my dad was able to get my sister and me to clean the entire basement with seeing part 2 as the reward.
Wooow. Slice of nostalgia heaven…thanks for much for the work that went in to sharing this! Must have been an awesome visit. Loved the history and the tour. Obsessed with every detail.
It was a great visit!
I worked for GCC from 83 to 92. That red checker carpet i remember well. They changed it to a blue and deep purple carpet around 1990. Hope to make it to this place someday.
Than you for sharing a piece of my childhood, I am from Waukegan and went to that mall often. I never saw a movie in that theater. I found out my aunt worked at the theater in the 60's. mM friend saw may a movie there, his mom worked in the mall, as she lived across from the park.
Thank you for the memories. The day after I filmed this, my wife and I saw Scooby Doo when the theater was open to the public.
They don't make cinemas like these anymore. It reminded me of some of the theaters I've been in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL.; in places like the Northside Twin and Arlington Expressway 3 in the '80s and early '90s. What nostalgia. Good memories.
I used to go here as a kid it's creepy but fun
The Hills Department store in Kingsport Mall in Kingsport TN used to have those spring loaded purse holders in the womens bathrooms I remember as a kid in the 1980s.
I love Old Theaters. This was a Great Video. Thanks for doing this. Love it!
I'm glad you enjoyed this! Thank you for watching!
What a slice of paradise. Place is incredible. It seems huge! What a great and wonderfully unexpected tour.
Man… this is very cool. And this is so close to me too!
The seats weren't haphazardly reinstalled. The trend at the time was to install the seats in the row behind between the seats in front so it would be less likely to have a tall head directly in front of you.
this is incredible

Great video!!!!
I loved going to this theater as a kid, remember seeing Blade & Toy Story 2 here. Really missed this place.
Blade will screen here February 17th, 4:00 pm
Thank you for doing this. Lots of good history you said and shown in this video. Last time I was there was in 2003 when I filmed it, another time in 1997 I was able to walk inside and there were cobwebs everywhere and I only looked in both Cinemas ONE and TWO. Belvidere Mall has survived downtown Waukegan, Lakehurst, and soon the crappy Gurnee Mills. I would have loved to have seen NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in 2020. I have many General Cinema memories! One movie in particular was Friday the 13th part 4 on Friday April 13th, 1984. I spent a lot of game time in the arcade next door as well. Here's what I recorded in 2003 of the old Lakehurst mall, I also filmed the Genesee Theater and Carson Pirie Scott in 2003, all on my channel czcams.com/video/EKcVkOqmyDQ/video.html
No lie a year ago I called to speak with the owner and asked him would he consider opening the movie theater and he said no it isn’t enough funding then a year later they are open I will be calling to thank him
