    Health? It is virtually impossible to get a doctor here, if you’ve moved here. Or even have lived here for awhile. You can go to walk in clinics, or call and talk to a Nurse Practitioner. But to get a GP is almost impossible.I feel for folks who need a doctor and need also, referrals. Those can take a long time to happen.

    I live in Halifax. Rent is outrageous. Food prices are outrageous. Construction all over the place and Halifax is not the quaint city it use to be.

      Well, parts of it still have some charm, and however bad in might be in Halifax, it’s like Heaven in relation to anywhere else in Nova Scotia.

      But have you checked out what it costs to live in say Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver? As to sports, we support teams when they win, but if not, we are as bad or worse than the fans in Montreal

    • @mangore623
      @mangore623 Před měsícem

      @terryvallis1436 It’s not so much a matter of cost of living, but more a matter of your return on your investment. Unless you’re living in a sh*thole, your cost of living is going to be excessive anywhere in Canada. However, your quality of life goes right to zero in the Maritimes (in my opinion), and doesn’t justify the investment. I spent two years in the Maritimes, living on PEI, and in Nova Scotia. Every day I’d wake-up hoping that things would miraculously improve, or that I’d stumble into all of its virtues that are broadcast everywhere. That day never dawned. What I did receive for my efforts was more negative memories than I’ve ever accrued anywhere else I’ve ever lived…even in relation to Vancouver…and Vancouver was pure Hell.

    If you're not familiar with Halifax and are watching this video, know that the information presented here is not accurate. The city has profoundly and permanently changed since 2015. We moved here for quality of life reasons over 20 years ago, and would never consider the city today. They've destroyed the historic feel of the city. There are times of day when you're far more likely to hear languages spoken in India or China than English. The provincial government has a plan to double the population by 2060 and they're ahead of schedule. Our teenage daughter cannot find work in Halifax because of a skewed jobs market shaped by policies that provide employers with tax breaks for hiring recent arrivals from India (for the most part). Everywhere I go I'm now more likely to be greeted by an Indian than not. When we arrived traffic was not an issue. Today Halifax has the third worst congestion in Canada. Development policies are crude and produce ugly housing - a mix of alienating high rises and rampant suburban sprawl. What they're doing here is super bizarre and happening so quickly. We'll return to New England when our lovely daughter graduates in June 2025. Halifax is a interesting and tragic story.

      I live in Halifax, moved here in 1995. It has changed profoundly since then. Agree, the historical elements of the city which made it attractive to visit and live in, have been largely destroyed, in favour of ridiculously tall buildings. There’s no view of the waterfront unless you’re on it. The buildings have obscured it. And yes, the traffic is brutal, and our public transit isn’t really up to snuff. It makes me sad to see these changes. Agree, re the Asians here, too. Have nothing against them, but they are ubiquitous, every fast food restaurant is run by them. Many come here bc it is a quicker way to a “permanent residency” document. They may then move elsewhere. The rents here have skyrocketed, making it very hard for blue collar workers to afford to live here. All is disheartening. 😢

      The entire province is a comic tragedy. I agree with your assessment of Halifax, and was horrified to see that any facet of preserving the cultural legacy went out the window in favour of placating rapacious developers. I lived in Shelburne, but decided to return to British Columbia last year. I also lived on PEI for a while. All I can say is that my Maritime experiences aren’t ones that I cherish.
