      @@SpookyLukeyD when you understand the way a guitar like this is actually made, with all of the electronics having to be installed through the pickup cavity and f-holes and wires pushed through pre-drilled holes I think you can understand that there’s always the potential for a few splinters to arise (bearing in mind that the wood on the inside of the guitar which all these components will invariably be contacting and rubbing against during installation is bare, unfinished wood). The wire is a bit weird and certainly unexpected, but once it’s out it’s out and without any damage are you really going to reject the guitar as a result? 🤔

      I’ve never have any issues with them at all, nor have I heard of anyone having issues. Super cheap, can get a set of 4 on sweetwater for like $5, and as said they’re great because you don’t have to modify anything. The only limiting factor is if your strap button is short/shallow you might have a hard time fitting the strap and rubber washer on it but on normal strap buttons it’s good to go.

    Oddly I have a '61 355 Mono, no Varitone. This would be a very cool partner to my 355 if I could afford one now. (I'm older with less disposable income, life). I'm personally tired of the aging thing but it's not going away...ever. This happens to be a very cool 335, and the Varitone has grown on me. I wire a couple of my guitars with reversed magnets ala Peter Green, so I would use the Varitone. Thanks for reviewing this model.

  • @hi13ts

      @@davehopping7212 Don’t get me wrong, Gibson prices have definitely gone up, but they have accordingly with everything else in the world as well. There are sone companies though (PRS) who are going up across the board with no added positives to the instruments to warrant the hike.

    • @davehopping7212
      @davehopping7212 Před rokem +1

      @@mpashalian7650 True dat. Since we live in a (nominally) capitalistic society, corporate entities are out to make as much profit as they can. If there is too much disparity price and actual value, people don't buy what's being sold and the particular corporation either gets its mind right or goes under. Admittedly, there's often too long a time between the problem appearing and minds being gotten right, but it still does seem as if you get the best, most innovative work product from a competitive marketplace.
      I still haven't seen good guitars from Russia or heard good rock and roll from the Peoples' Republic!

    • @Andrew_182
      @Andrew_182 Před rokem

      @Mpashalian
      Nah, it’s almost entirely corporate profiteering causing the price hikes, including Gibsons, and there’s no justification for it. And as far as brands (like PRS) raising prices with no added positives to the instruments, true, but what exactly has Gibson been adding to warrant the price hikes? As evidenced in this very video, their QC is still spotty (to put it kindly), and their prices for what you’re getting is still on the high end of the market. So from where I sit, there’s really no room to justify or excuse Gibson here, they’re just as guilty as any other company no matter how much one may (dis)like them.

    The 335 this one recalls was a work guitar. The re-issue is an objet d'art and is extremely unlikely to do actual gigs. Pricewise it's close to twice the adjusted-for-inflation cost of the original. These ultra-high-end pieces have the reputation of playing and sounding better than we mortals could ever wish for, but I'm a little saddened to think that this one will undoubtedly never be seen in a loud beer-soaked bar with a lit Camel cigarette stuck between the 6th string and the headstock.

BTW if your unfamiliar with the VARITONE, they're really not very usable unless you are BB KING. And you're not. There are two settings that are OK... One is straight through, no effect, the other is the second setting, which I think BB KING used. Just get a 335 and have fun. Unless you are a collector, in which event you don't care what I think.

    Salutations Austin!
    Nice 335!
    I’m a little surprised that they hadn’t cleaned up the splinters before they glued the top on, a $ 10,000 dollar guitar shouldn’t have debris in it, in my opinion, you could use that one splinter as a toothpick.
    Personally, I think Gibson would sell a lot more guitars more quickly if their instruments were more affordable, and generally, only serious collectors with a lot of disposable income could afford to buy these limited edition instruments such as this BB King Signature 335.
    I would like to see them make a version without the aging that would serve as a players option in a more affordable price range so that players could get a chance to actually own and play one of these guitars.
    Thank you for posting these videos, and sampling some of the less attainable instruments that most of us would never get a chance to play.
    Please have an excellent and awesome day!

The current Bigsby's use split spring steel pins that are pressed into holes in the front of the bar.

    Looks like a Lucille to me with the varitone, with a bigsby in place of the TP-6 tailpiece, without the black finish, fret board block inlays and Lucille headstock script?

    A third reason for those loose wire/splinter treasures is that they were in BB’s original? Kudos, Gibson. Damn though, seeing the prices stacked up reminds me of people who pay more for ripped jeans. Live at The Regal is one of the few CD’s I keep in my car, absolute gold!

    When they sell out you'll make a nice profit on that. Well, provided you don't keep it. Interesting side note: Norm's has #2 for sale in his shop right now for the same price. Same case candy and everything.

    10000 usd for a guitar, a flag and some playing cards. You could have bought a car. This is ridiculously overpriced. No one should pay more than 2000 on a guitar

  • @jonathanhudak2059
    @jonathanhudak2059 Před rokem +1

    That's a beautiful guitar but in my opinion way too much money. That's terrible for that kind of money having some wood splinters floating around in there and a broken wire... you shouldn't get that on a $2,500 guitar let alone a $10,000 guitar
