The thing is soft shells have a shell the strength of rubber, which I’m sure is stronger than skin *butt* it makes me think:
Does it hurt *that* bad? (when falling and such)
So thinking it through I remember that the shell of a turtle is it’s spine.
So if your spine was constantly exposed and had the strength of an eraser, then yeah:
It would hurt.
Plus I imagine that Lou Jitsu’s DNA would probably, most likely effect the strength of Donatellos shell. Maybe in a good way, maybe in a bad way. I couldn’t know.
I think it should be acknowledged that the shell is literally apart of the turtle’s spine
I like that Leo was the only one who was making sure that Donnie was ok while the other two were just saying that that was cool.

MUAHAHA Know you won't see this BUT Softshell turtles are in fact carnivorous and can bite. It has a soft shell because of a layer of soft 'skin' on it BUT, hear me out, it can withstand 200 times it's weight. It is not that easy to break donnie's shell, and no need to worry about this boy cause he ain't that soft!
