What did you think of VGK when they were revealed in 2017?
😮
I thought it was a really cool addition bc in my lifetime I’ve never really even heard of an expansion team and was really surprised when they made it to the final
u realize that was game 1, you should've dropped this if they win the series, slow down buddy
I'm a Kings fan living in Vegas. Prior to the Golden Knights arrival, I got Kings games and Ducks games as part of my cable package. Because they were both taken off and replaced with VGK games, I wanted to hate the Golden Knights. But they responded to the mass shooting in Las Vegas on the eve of their first ever home game with dignity, strength, and compassion, which helped heal the city. Then they played unexpectedly well in their 1st season, and I found myself rooting for them. I still root for them.....except when they play the Kings.
I love them. The biggest misconception about Las Vegas is, we’re the desert, what do we know about hockey???
This town is FILLED with people who work & live HERE, that are transplanted from somewhere else. I’ve been here 35 years & couldn’t be happier to have a LOCAL NHL team. So, we’ve got a LOT of people that know & love hockey. There’s an EQUAL enthusiasm for “newbies” to the game that are eager to learn.
Most of the license plates here are LVGK or Raiders. This team IS special bcuz they’re “home grown”!!!
They brought a city together after the mass shooting on 1 October. They MADE Las Vegas band as one, just 10 days later & took us to the “promised land” of a Final in our first year.
This season is different. The player’s seem more focused. They’ve spent the entire season with most of the team on LTIR. 5 goalies this season & yet here we are.
The Knight’s do lots for the community. Yes, I know every team in every sport does that, but these guy’s are humble. There’s nothing spectacular about them, but they work well together.
There’ll never be a game that a fan ISN’T nervous when there’s less than a minute in a period!!!! EVER!!!
I hope they DO win the Cup this year. If so, it’s a TEAM effort. I include everyone that was pulled from the Silver Knight’s to help us get to where we are today. THEY have made this a possibility for how hard they played in the regular season.
Bills one of the best sports owners you can ask for as a city. Dude genuinely cares about his sports team. And also his (top of the line I might add) arena didn’t cost the public a flipping penny!!! OG right there
This is the exact reason I was immediately drawn to the VGK when they started. Because it was right after San Diego told Spanos to shove it billing tax payers with a billion dollar stadium or he'd move the Chargers to LA. Basically extorting the city for tax payers they don't even watch football with the bill.
Then here's Vegas starting from scratch on Bill's own dime. This was an easy team to love.
I've met Mr. Foley and was even invited to his own personal suite for a game (it's called "The Bunker"). I also have a family member who works for a company that he owns and he provides friends/family with free lower level tickets--he's a complete class act!
❤❤❤❤❤
Vgk and Arsenal fan but I might have to start supporting Bournemouth too lol
Go knights go!!
Preach! ✨⚔️🇺🇸
It's kinda feels like a lot of people are mad that hockey is working in Vegas and that doesn't make sense to me.. if you're a fan of the game you want it to grow, and creating new markets that thrive is a really good way to do that
I was at the expansion draft. I heard people all around me cackling and saying that this team is going to be garbage. I've thought about that day a lot... The knights have bought into a vision and are determined to fulfill it no matter who gets in their way.
Also helps that the drafting rules for expansion drafts were changed that year.
It's really good for new teams, even Seattle looked good this year.
They only have four players left from the expansion draft left. Give credit to management for not resting and continuing to improve the team
@Kurtis Schwartz sort of, but it also took great vision by their coaching and management. Back in 2017 people thought they would suck even AFTER they saw what players they’d chosen.
I’d also guess to some degree other teams are held back by decisions that aren’t that bad in isolation but when viewed together are bad. For example, Toronto’s core 4. Any one of those contracts isn’t too bad on its own, but all of them together screw the team and keep them from getting any depth. These 2 new teams haven’t had enough time to accumulate incompatible decisions like that yet.
@salvadorrosales6255 6 but yes
@@salvadorrosales6255 Oh sure but it's thanks to the new expansion draft rules that they even had the pieces to trade in the first place.
Credit where credit is due tho, they traded their pieces for others that have fit the team mold well. They have also made some moves that were head scratchers (hello Flurry).
Bill has done so much for us here in Vegas, particularly after 1Oct17. We have professional two hockey teams, plus he has, unofficially, invested a lot in the UNLV college hockey program as well. Thanks to bill, we have a valley wide high school hockey league in the works. Even last year, when Vegas WASN'T winning, the public skates at the smaller arenas he's had built are always super popular. VGK aren't JUST a hockey team here. I know people, personally, who have met the folks who they ended up getting married to and having kids because of VGK hockey.. People outside Vegas may hate us, but we're having too much fun to care.
You said it brother!
I’m a vegas local, I still have the original shirt for the Vegas Golden Knights when we were announced. I was gonna be a fan win or lose and we are just lucky enough for it to mostly be winning.
Mostly? Top playoff winning pct all-time nhl isnt too shabby is it
I like some in the comments attended the draft , and albeit I knew some of these bottom line players I thought they would be a 500 hockey club. But people forget that we had to shooting right before the season started. I think it made the players play out of their minds that first season. Because the healing this hockey team provided on and off the ice was something this city needed at the time. They embraced it and that’s why fans still give love to the original team even beyond the 6 that still play with us
The desire for a major sports team in Vegas has been strong for decades. The fact that we got a brand new team with no baggage was brilliant. Some fans still have their original team, e.g. Red Wings, Habs, but when Vegas isnt playing those teams they're VGK fans through and through. For the new fans we love this team more than any other team in any other sport.
Lol what? If I’m not cheering for my home team I would much rather cheer for a team and city that really deserves a cup such as Buffalo, Winnipeg, Columbus etc. it’s not fun cheering for a team that the league wants to win.
I went to I believe was their 3rd home game. Some things shocked me. 1) T Mobile was a fantastic place to see a hockey game and built for hockey. 2) they were breaking the mold in fan experience at a typical NHL game. 3) the place was PACKED with fans who screamed the entire time. Its still like that today. 4) these guys were FAST. That first team really had good speed and passing ability. Magic.
You're right, that is also exactly how I remember that team, speed & passing.
If vegas hired a different coach after gallant, they would've had one or two cups already. Pete deboer was a terrible fit for that team. And I still believe if they don't get robbed by the refs in 2019, they would have probably won their first cup that year. They've been really close to winning it all 3 - 4 times since their inception. Crazy
Let’s see our boys take this cup home.
Go Knights GO!!
Bruce Cassidy!
I remember being one of the only hockey fans who thought dumping Fleury was a genius move. He single-handedly cost the Knights at least a trip to the Final in 2021 and probably the Cup. But all everyone thought of with Fleury were the Cups with Pittsburgh, the run in '18, the '21 Vezina, how affable he was with the media, etc. Vegas knew he was done and they are reaping the benefits of that move today.
I... would not go quite that far. For all he might have done with one bad play in 2021, he was still a solid goalie at the time. What the move came down to was finances. They could not keep putting $12M of their cap into goaltenders, which then necessitated either Fleury or Lehner getting moved out. Lehner was immovable under the flat cap, nobody wanted a contract with four years left on it, so it had to be Fleury (who had just 1 year left).
A side note that needs to be addressed as well is Allan Walsh (Fleury's agent). Walsh became infamous/famous within the fanbase in 2020 for his posting of the "sword in the back" meme, portraying Fleury as having a sword (captioned "DeBoer") sticking deep into his back. A year later, all signs are that this relationship only continued to deteriorate. This likely contributed to why Fleury found out about his trade on Twitter - a fact that Walsh quickly publicized and highlighted via social media - and why neither of them heard from the team directly.
You may or may not choose to believe George McPhee's (VGK's President of Hockey Ops) explanation regarding this. Either option is reasonable. McPhee stated that the radio silence was due to Walsh trying to sabotage potential trades of Fleury. Walsh was apparently - per McPhee - hearing about trade partners, reaching out to them, and saying that Fleury would retire if traded (thus reducing Fleury's trade value). This led the Knights to freeze communications and thus why Fleury heard nothing about the eventual trade to the Hawks. This may or may not be true, but events more known to the public certainly make it seem plausible. Side note: this may have influenced the shipping off of Pacioretty, who also has Walsh as an agent, though that was likely primarily motivated by cap space.
Is McPhee telling the truth? Nobody on the outside can really be certain one way or another. But the idea that relations between Walsh and the VGK were bad in 2020 seems certain. And the idea that they only got worse as: Lehner was extended, the two goalies traded starts, and trade talks with Fleury ultimately picked up steam... yeah, that seems pretty certain as well, regardless of if you believe McPhee or not.
@@Utred2012 Great post; you know your stuff. I am big fan of George McPhee, as he endorsed my first book in 2020 commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Hobey Baker Award, which is given annually to NCAA hockey's best player. McPhee won that award as a forward at Bowling Green State University in 1982.
Foley used people's laughter as fuel for his vision. Now who's laughing? Even if they lose to the Panthers, still mad respect for making a Cup contending team in 6 years.
Nobody laughing now...
They were cup contending year 1
When the Oilers entered the league in 1979 they said they and Wayne Gretzky would win the cup in 5 years and they did in their 5th season 1983-84 so its not unprecidented to state your goals as an expansion team. Its happened before.
@@craigusselman546 In 1979 there were 21 teams, no salary cap, and at least 5 teams with non NHL quality rosters, hardly the same challenge.
I was there the night of the expansion draft. I knew most of these players. I knew we wouldn't be garbage, but going to the Cup, now that was a suprise.
Hill was amazing last night
The oilers, kings, sharks, sabres fans hate this video
The Vegas expansion draft was so much smarter than the one Seattle executed a couple of years later. They made smart trades. They made deals for teams to keep players for futures. They made sure they had a present and a future with great asset management.
Seattle didn’t even pick all the best players available.
seattle is pretty good still. They are in it for the long haul, Vegas went all in for short term. 2 different strategies and we won't know which was was better for another 5 years.
Not a Vegas fan.
They play rough, no penalties.
4 guys on puck all night. Forecheck, backcheck.
Hit by pucks.
They are one of the most solid teams, ever. I'm a red wings fan.
The game is different now, rough, intense, no penalties, discipline, wins the cup.
Vegas 4-1
Great video. And on the new draft rules, look at all remaining misfits
Smith, given to Vegas so they would select Marchessault, so they can protect two guys who barely got a cup of coffee
Karlsson given to Vegas with a first overall draft pick and a second, so they would take David Clarkson off their books
Theodore given to Vegas so they would take Clayton Stoner off their books and so they could protect Vatanen and Manson
Carrier, Buffalo gave a 6th round pick to select him
McNabb is the only remaining player that was simply selected, and wasnt sweetened to select.
@Spectrum ... Great post....and if I may add, the Wild traded Alex Tuch to Vegas in exchange for Vegas selecting Erik Haula and a conditional third-round pick in the 2017 or 2018 NHL Entry Draft. While Tuch and Haula are no longer with the VGK, Tuch was the principal figure in the trade that brought Jack Eichel here, and Haula was dealt for Nicolas Roy.
If this team wins the Stanley Cup this year I predict an in depth 30 for 30 documentary within the next 5 years...
I've been a knights fan since day 1, and when I go to a game there are hundreds of fans from the other team there, people now are scheduling vacations to watch there team play in Vegas, knights all the way this year
I can see Seattle getting close to this as well.
Teams only allowed to protect 3 defensemen was the clutch for Vegas’s growth. Only being able to protect 3 of a teams 4 top pair dmen (or expose two forwards in a teams top 6) really catapulted Vegas to play off contenders right away.
Even with that it came down to making some good choices, not obvious ones. They saw something with Karlsson.
And yet, everyone picked them to finish last after the draft. Then when they won the division and marched to the Final, all of a sudden everyone acted like they weren't surprised that Vegas made the Final.
My favorite article to look back on is the 2017 Deadspin article, called "Wow The Golden Knights are Going to be Bad."
We all felt the criticism from haters. All it did was make the mutual love between team and fan stronger. The night of the first pre season game against the sharks was the same nite less than a block away mass shooting. They stepped up and helped us heal. For that our love became for life
Love these guys. Going all the way this year baby!
Well run franchise that is the envy of so many. Way to go Knights!
VGK have been a contender out the gate and I'm for it.
Good video, as a VGK fan i appreciate your honesty and just wish that everyone else who still dumps on Vegas would admit theyre wrong too.
As a Sabres fan, I’m rooting for y’all in the final bc if you win it’ll piss off all the annoying Oilers fans. Ty for Tuch and Krebs, and I’m glad it seems like Eichel is thriving there (honestly our management totally mistreated him, especially with the whole surgery situation).
@@uranium54321 I love seeing Sabres fans not always dump on eichel. The trade is looking good for both teams and I'm glad that Tuch gets to play for his hometown team
Knights are destined to win the cup 🏆
So glad you're not biased and can see how it's cool that Vegas might win the cup!
Also how much they are over the salary cap lol
no salary cap in the playoffs. Shitcago did it first, quit whining
They haven't iced a team over the cap in the playoffs.
Every single game has been under the cap.
@@frederickglass1583 I am not whining, just making a joke based on a fact. chill bro
@@_-frosty-_ It is just the grey area in the cap world rn. Teams see chance to do it, they will hang someone players on the LTIR even they are not incapable to play, so they can acquire more players for playoff
Eh, they spent over half of that (5mil) on a goalie they didn't even need in hindsight
The GM and the groups over there WORKED REALLY HARD. They have to pick and team payed them to pick players ..(like the panthers who gave them 2 instead of 1 ) and they only have 6 players from the ORIGINAL 1st years . They traded young stars they WORKED REALLY HARD... They are a SHOW on ice ... The pre game , the game etc .
They are quite the team and many ppl said they wouldnt same shit with Seatle who took only 2 years to get into the playoff...
Haters gonna hate .... All you hear over here is : 100M over capped space is stupid they fake injuries to get a better team ...(WTF) they got handed a team , The ref helped them , and so on ... (the last one I saw coming from a cats fans witch should seriously STFU since I follow the road and OMG they never received calls until LAST night ... and Mr,Maurice came in front of the media to CRY about it ... WOW . They have been the less penalized team since the START of the playoff ... The series vs TORONTO was the WORSE REFFINGS game of ALL playoff No penalty call on both side like 4-5 a games MAX with advantage to the CATS EVERY GAME. its weird to see)
Vegas stockpiled a ton of draft picks because the other teams feared having their good players taken away in the expansion draft. Not only that, but Vegas also signed/traded for 3 big name players that worked out(Stone, Petro, and Eichel). Give their management credit for making a series of smart moves. Also, they didn't really build their team through the draft because they traded away most of their top prospects...
Yet people still claim Vegas was "Gifted" a Stanley Cup team.
I’ve been a fan since day 1, I was attracted to them because they were the first expansion team in my life
Teams still wanted the players they had to give away. Really hard decisions they had to make for the expansion of them
Outstanding Report_ Yes all the "Experts" said "Hockey will never work in Las Vegas " Enter Middle Finger Here.
just as ESPN, TNT an various CZcams so called Hockey Experts continue to throw flowers at the Knights Opposition teams giving the VGK No chance to win the prior 3 Playoff teams the Knights beat.
VGK is what you get when you start with a clean slate and a dedicated owner . VGK is what you get when the players buy into a team work philosophy. VGK is what you get there's no big money superstars to drag the team down if they don't perform.
I like this take, I didnt know alot o this but the fact that jack Eichel and the coach bruce cassidy have alot to prove make it so much more. I would say they need this win alot more than panthers
Golden Knights are going to do it for Bark!!
I love that you said that you saw the unveiling in school. In Canada you learn about hockey in school?!? In the US we learn how to fight, do and sell drugs, and....well... that's just about it.
VGK is great for hockey. Everyone hating on the team should step back and rethink what this has done. It’s increased the NHL fan base and brought hockey to a city were no one watched hockey. It’s great for the sport. Same goes for the kraken. It’s also causing other clubs to rethink how their stadium should present the show and their team.
I see all the clowns who continue to talk shit about VGK have been rendered to a crickets chirp
Yup, and its fucking glorious to see them eat crow 24/7
Great video!
I think its lowkey disgusting how they treat their stars regardless of how well it works. Pacc and Fleury were the 2 mains guys for the first 4 years and they just said fuck you you're gone then won a cup without them.
Any team that thumps Calgary is good in my book.
George McPhee played at BG with Mike Sicuro
Really happy for Vegas! I was rooting for them from the start! Hope they take the Cup this year! Also really wanted to see Vegas and Seattle in the West Finals this year (so close to happening too!). This is good for the league and the expansion draft was fair in my opinion. The problem is teams dont give enough players a decent chance (it's a bad culture in hockey). This kind of thing will help the league grow instead of sticking to thier orthodox ways.
Vegas going to win a cup they have a better team know
Funny note: the only other expansion that was like Vegas was Florida really
The penguins DID NOT want to give up Fleury, he was unfortunately the odd man out from protection.
The Pens gave Vegas a 2nd round pick to take Flower.
What are you talking about? Pittsburgh gave Vegas a 2nd round pick to ensure they would take Fleury. Pittsburgh had to get rid of one of their two goalies for salary cap reasons. They couldn't afford both. So to make sure this happened they made a deal with the Knights and included a 2nd round pick with Fleury because the Penguins chose Matt Murray and they didn't want the Knights to not take a goalie with their pick.
@@Yimvision damn really?? I was a bit younger when fleury got taken and not that into the sport. With how the organization and fans talk about him, that seems crazy
wow 6years in Standly cup twice
Dude they got nhl ready players in the draft. I thought it was garbage they didn't have to develop players
The NHL didn’t want a garbage expansion team. They wanted a competitive one.
Except no business people smart enough to have the amount of money required to buy an NHL franchise would ever do it if they were going to be walking into a dog shit team that was so bad and probably in a non-traditional hockey market that it would never gain a big enough following and turned into the next Arizona Coyotes (Vegas had to pay $500M to join, Seattle was $650M and the next one's estimated to go up by at least that $150M). The hard salary cap also means someone with infinite pockets can't just walk in and buy their way to the top overnight like what's happening with MLB or soccer.
yea. This is the NHL so a team entering that league should comprise of NHL ready players. Are you seriously upset that they didn't play in the NHL with college level talent?
Bottom line on this one...George McPhee...The man is a genius!!! Think about it...what team beat the VGK in the 2017 Cup Final? It was McPhee´s Capitals team!!! Everyone keeps criticizing Vegas for trading away all their assets for the likes of Stone and Eichel, yet they are heading into tonight´s game against Winnipeg (2 Nov) down Whitecloud and Hague and they will be just fine with Pachal and Korzak as the 3rd pairing. This team is DEEP! It was proven during the cup run, and they are continuing to prove it this season.
getting me back into hockey, good vids
By standard i think he means achieving it via best practices not the 'average' or acceptsble standard
It must be nice having the money to buy a perfect roster and have new rules put in place. Is anyone really surprised? It just goes to show that money really does buy anything, like the Stanley cup.
Meanwhile, the Sabres and Canucks are still waiting....
The Sabres are getting there, the Canucks?....that city is getting what it deserves.
I was on board after game 3 of the inaugural season, hyping up my friends as a freshman at UNLV.
They haven't been tested yet. Lets see how the city handles it when they are no good. When its time for a rebuild. Then I'll judge how good the market is.
Meanwhile in Toronto
Toronto: WHY?! WHY!?
U wrap it up quiet nicely Bettman and new expansion rules and refs
Expansion rules were much more generous for the Golden Knights so comparing them to past expansion teams is not valid.
Sorry. But Vegas is bound to well and can not be compared to expansion teams of old. This is Gary's team. Any US based for that matter as if it's the other it breaks the coverage and that means loss in revenue. MLB saw that in 91-93

GARRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYY!
Nobody’s laughing when Vegas hoist the cup following game 6!
Missed calls in every sport. But when you end up in the championship games as a result. It's hard as a fan to deny what you see!
Watch hockey for 40 yrs coach hockey for 10 yrs and you'll know the politics of the game.
Last 15 years if not more have been about making hockey more entertaining. We'll, that takes the integrity out of the sport. And the trust in the game.
You just end up what the NFL is now. Always changing rules a year too late to say "see we listened and fixed it". Expect the opposite happens and we end up with even more problems.
Really wish we stuck to the grassroots of sports back when we had the chance.
Keep making excuses. You sound really good at it. Maybe next year the Calgary Flames will be "entertaining" enough to make the playoffs.
@Yimvision the flames are terrible. Enjoy the show tho, sounds like you're more into the fake sword fights before the game than the actually sport.
The knights got eliminated in first round 2019 because of one of the worst blown call ever made in the history of nhl. So much for vegas being bettmans favorite team.
It's not rigged, they were just propped up. The NHL made sure that going forward expansion teams didn't get *just* scraps like CBJ or MIN. They also benefited from when they entered the league. The talent pool was extremely stretched in the 2000 draft. Lots of sub NHL players had to be picked up just for the new teams to have full rosters. Fast forward 20 years all of sudden the expansion team gets to add actually NHL vets to their roster. This is why a lot of the older expansion teams don't like Vegas. It might be jealousy but it's not like it isn't deserved. They are a mercenary team made up from chipping players off of other teams there is a reason they are heel on this finale.
I guess Bill Foley was correct about that.
I’m not a Panther fan but no way they losing to the knights.
They are teams hat have gritty grinders that work their ASS off. That is how they win. These Matthews, marner, ect are not and their teammates are not

Is it just me or does everyone outside of the golden knights hate the golden knights lmao
They bent over the teams poaching player and teams panicked bleeding assets. They also have a 100 M roster in the playoffs and have what for taxes? advantages and abuses.
How big was the Leafs salary in the playoffs again?......
Calling then misfits is so stupid lmao. I get they want to market their team this way but it just ain't true. Maybe we thought that, but with hindsight, everyone can see how teams were overexposed and offered hundreds of side deals to Vegas in panick mode..
Good on management for making good moves. I still dont like them
There is some truth to what you are saying, but experts and fans alike proclaimed the team would be garbage front the start, which fueled the misfits narrative.
@@kftc1980 the more I listen to "experts" the more I realise they don't know more than we do
@@borrow4654 yeah, I wouldn’t recommend listening to them.
@@kftc1980 I can agree with that lmao. Some of it has value but id take it with a grain of salt
These expansion teams are not put together with unwanted missfits... the gms had to put together a small list of players that arent up for grabs. Then vegas picked the best contracts out of what was remaining... not just the best players... the best contract, They are legit built for instant success, lets not pretend that Seattle's team isnt better than the top 80% either... saying they are comprised of missfits is just wrong
Management was smart they made deals with teams to take the players they didn’t want and got more compensation in draft picks and they used that capital to make trades which have worked out.
Its pronounced Golden showers
They didn’t get garbage from other teams. They got top tier players due to the insane expansion rules. Unfair rules. Immediately a contender due to the poaching of talent, rather than drafting and developing talent.
Maybe do a little research into this...Poaching means illegal, which rules were broken?....Maybe admit they were better coached, had a much better GM, a better owner, and a much better environment to play in than most other NHL cities.
N 7, Man cut it out! You're only saying that now because they are winning. At the time nobody gave them a shot. They don't have any top tier talent on their team like that up until Eichel.
Who was a top tier player when Vegas selected them? The only star, was Fleury, who was on the back side of his career. The only other player that had any previous success, was Marchy, who was coming off a 30 goal season. But, Florida didn't want him, and even threw in Riley Smith just so Vegas would take him.
Besides the way Fleury was handled, this team has made the right moves and at the right time. Moving on from flower was a decent move, I just wish it hadn't been so messy
If it was rigged Bettman will give Florida the edge to win. Vegas seems to have really grown their franchise into a consistent force of entertainment in their city. Florida still only sees the bursts of success as a source of entertainment for Floridians when the push for the playoffs comes around and during the playoffs. Bettman would want Florida to win in order to help cement some lifelong fans from that demographic of playoff badwagoners. So, VGK winning is likely in opposition to the “it’s rigged” by Bettman theory.
I wish I knew what your clickbait titles were about, but your descriptions are just as bad :(
Panthers will win. So Vegas will win in 7 not 6 years.
joanny, they got everything gifted by the league, all with established nhl player, no team has ever gotten that gift, n then ppl say the knights have suffered enought???, theyve mde the cup final twice in 6 years plus 4-5 conference final already, ur realy cringe nhl understanding wise janny cringe
I've seen a lot of people complaining about how we are "helping expansion teams too much" and it just has huge boomer "I had it rough so you need to too" energy
Except those same idiots were saying they'd be a shit team when the roster was revealed; it wasn't until they were good that all of a sudden the narrative changed and they'd been given too much help.
Hardly , Boomers understand business, children do not. Boomers had it rough, and learned, kids today whine about everything, nothing is their fault.
Nobody’s laughing now, they’re all mad about the success. And we’re here for it. Go knights go
people are misremembering the expansion draft, it was skewed to make it good on purpose. Remember they wanted to make sure the team wasn't complete shit like previous expansion teams. They didn't allow teams to protect as many players as previous drafts. People saying this and making videos like this come off as people that have only started watching hockey in the last 5 years.
Amazing that people dont remember how bad San Jose, Ottawa and Columbus were...now all of a sudden expansion teams are going to the finals their first year. Be nice if Buffalo and Vancouver would have their asses kissed like that.
But you would you have preferred them to have a shitty team and no attendance? Isn’t it good for hockey overall when we can blow up the sport in a city like Vegas?
@@joshuagohres7902 it’s a good thing to have new teams good. They did places like Atlanta dirty by having them always be shitty.
If that's the direction we're going to go, let's also add in the fact EVERY SINGLE ANALYST AND SPORTS PERSONA had VGK finishing dead last in 2017.
This is absolutely ridiculous. Everyone thought they were going to be bad. They took advantage of other teams mishandling assets. They're just a well ran franchise. Why sm cope?
BS. This wasnt a typical expansion draft. Does anyone seriously think Columbus, San Jose, Anaheim, Atlanta, Carolina or Ottawa got their asses kissed like Vegas has? Those cities werent handed playoff teams like expansion cities are now.
$500M. A massive handoff. 😂
Those teams also didn't give the other owners $500 million just to get in. When you pay 500 million, you should expect to be competitive right away.

ur very cringe jonanny hokwey
They got alot of help from the league in this run... Some calls in there favor are terrible calls and the fact that pitrangello didnt get serious suspension for that slash on Draisaitl was insane and proves that the NHL is a joke and guys like charles barkley and ESPN calling hockey a joke is totally warranted... no wonder the finals ratings are so low and neither team has sold out a arena for any of the 7 games. Its embarrassing
Cry more.
Cry 🤡
You clearly didn't watch Florida against Toronto because Bennett and Gudas should've missed at least 3 games between the 2 of them and got a whopping 1 minor penalty for their crimes.
Parros should've been immediately fired for not disciplining Bennett for what he did to Knies which was far worse than what Pietrangelo did.

Are you dumb ? Vegas sells out every game they have 😂 and the cheapest seats for stably cup iré like 500 apiece
