    Watching these has been super helpful, hoping to incorporate these skills to make the workflow at my job better with clearer drawings. Thank you so much for using your own time to help others like me!

    I started to learn FreeCAD and I found your videos very informative. Thanks!

    Hi Yorik, thanks for the video. Very helpful. Hope you find time to do more of these tutorials. Cheers, Guido

    Each workbench has its own set of tools. That is crazy amount of tools. Don't you get confused where a particular tool exists or even if it exists.

    I think that walls should not be a single element. even if the basis is a polyline, then the product is separate walls for each segment of the polyline. then you can set the orientation of individual segments (right-center-left) and change the height.. the main thing is that the segments of the walls should be able to combine the correct angles

      Yes for that we'd need a proper join mechanism. Note that the "experimental wall" in the BIM workbench works as your idea

    Looking at your wall and window objects it seems it would be possible with some tweaks to create walls based on line or polylines that would have directly several components inside; example: an outer face brick with thickness 9cm, and air grap of thickness 2cm, the insulation of thickness 14cm, the load bearing wall of thickness 19cm and possibly the plaster finish of thickness 2cm. This is what is happening with a window except that you can't base them on a line or polyline.

    Hola Yorik, cuando muevo el cróquis de una ventana, no se mueve el hueco en el muro. Qué puede pasar?

    Great video. Great work. Thanks a lot !
    (I was pretty afraid by the scratchy sound at the beginning but it become quickly really better. Don't know why.)

    Can you do a tutorial on curved or circular walls. I want to build/design a dome house which would use a lot of these curved shapes like tube, half spheres, parabolic arch.

    Once you have created a window and put it in a wall, can you change the type from for example "sash" to "double pane". If it exists I have not found how to do that.

    At 3:40 you edit the DWire.
    Instead, I go to Edit but I cannot move the vertexes of my Wire (FreeCAD 0.18 - Linux Mint).
    What do you think?
    Thanks

    Yorik hello!
    cool program, great videos you have.
    Tell me, can you make drawings in it? How does it look?
    specifications?

  • @daveedwardsconsulting6916

    Can walls be placed in the ISO view? Why does the Wall command end? Why can't I place another point and get a connected Wall?

    Hi, Do you have plans to update obj. (or any other) polymodel importer, because now Freecad´s importer and mesh to shape command produce varying results if using quads or ngons. With the Freecad version 0.17 the only way to import clean meshes is to triangulate surfaces, which usually ruins the geometry.
    If this feature would work properly, you could find a big market from architecture and visualisation Industry, because then Freecad becomes the core link between polymodel sofwares (like Blender) and other BIM software (like Revit). So the industry could transform 3D models to IFC in Freecad and open them in Revit for example.
    The other solution could be an ability to edit lines and faces after the mesh is converted to the shape, so everyone could clean the topology easily.

      @YorikvanHavre  Před 6 lety

      Importing mesh objects and turning them into solid geometry is a very complicated matter, you will find that with any other software that is able to do that (rhino is probably the best of them). But yeah of course I'd like to achieve that too at some point.

    Hello Yorick..Are you under KDE...How do you get the dark window for FreeCad ?

    • @YorikvanHavre
      @YorikvanHavre  Před 6 lety +1

      I'm using fluxbox actually. But basically freecad will take the colors of your desktop theme. Or, you can use a custom theme too specifically for FreeCAD. There are several built-ins that you can set in the preferences.
