  • There are a lot of Computer-aided design and BIM solutions that exist on the market. Today we are going to talk about ArchiCAD and FreeCAD in particular, that have been used by many professionals and hobbyists. so What are these two software used for and What are the features and tools that make one of them better than the other.
in 1982, GRAPHISOFT developed one of the first 2D/3D architectural modeling software for personal computers which is Archicad. It is an architectural design software for professionals and also used as a BIM software (Building Information Modeling software).
It thus enables architects to take charge of the construction project as a whole, throughout its life cycle. It allows you to design 2D plans and transform them into a 3D digital model in order to have the most precise possible result before the final rendering.
On the other hand, Freecad is an open-source software that was launched in 2002. The special thing about this one is that you can use it freely according to your needs. Freecad is a parametric 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software. and It can be useful for building information modeling too. It allows you to easily modify your design by going back into your model history and changing its parameters; it is easy to provide additional functionality without modifying designs from the ground up manually.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this was a well thought out comparison. Comparing free cad to something like fusion 360 or solid works would make so much more sense. But to compare it to archicad seems odd. They’re very different applications and are designed to do very different things (which you point out in your video). But it just seems like a weird choice for a comparison video.

Not really, FreeCAD has the Archi mode which is exactly what is being compared here

@@herantd I wrote this comment nearly two years ago. But I thing the point I was trying to make was you can probably do architecture in solid works but too but shoehorning tools into software designed to do something completely different seems shortsighted. Great you can do it hear but I don’t think I’d ever make a legitimate comparison between archicad and something like solid works. It’s just apples to oranges.

The reason for this strangeness is because, in fact, freecad needs an Add-on "BIM Workbench" (developed by Yorik Van Havre) to be able to become a competitor to archicad. But even so, the author of the video did not show how the Add-on works to compare it with ArchiCad.
