The snow leopard has the longest documented jump among cat species. One is documented by a team of scientists to have jumped 11.7 meters (38 feet and 4.5 inches) across a cleft. Comically, their designated camera man was still fumbling for the camera, when the leopard vanished out of sight. It illustrates how shy the snow leopard is, though; there are people who have studied snow leopard for decades, and have never seen one live in nature, and hardly anyone has seen more than fleeting glimpses. The jump was precisely measured, using footprints in pristine snow. Since snow leopards are so elusive, and sightings are so rare and fleeting, there's no record of how high they can jump. However, based on their body mechanics and such rare observations as the aforementioned long jump, some estimate that it may be capable of jumping as high as 6 meters; that's twice as high as the caracal, which has the highest _documented_ jump.
The snow leopard also lives in the area where that cat family emerged, i.e. the Himalayas, and may be the closest living relative of the first feline species.
I just thought someone should mention this.

Most of its population are in Himalayan foothills, Sumatra of Indonesia, and Myanmar-Thailand forests. There was a teacher in my high school who had a jaguar that he took everywhere with him except the school. The teAcher had VW beatle car with the back adopted for the cat. The had had a rinstone caller she wore at all times and she was gorgeous.

I think the term panther refers to any cat that has a gene that makes their fur black. It happens with a number of cats

@@roblewis8227 that's correct. 'Panthers' technically don't exist. They're black felids, just like there are albino ones. The common idea of a 'panther' would be a black leopard.

You're confusing the Felidea and Panthera families, the former referring to "Cats" and the latter including Jaguars, Panthers,...Lions. The cheetah belongs to the d'Alpilles family of Felidea (felines).

If Bobcats don't dwell in colder climates then please explain why there are so many of them in the Western Montana Rocky Mountains where we have cold weather for about 9 months out of the year, usually having at least a few weeks in the -30's and -40's.
