    Great video, was unclear on why everyone always sets charisma to 1

    I like to put some points in charisma for roleplaying purposes, despite the fact I did it at the expense of Endurance

    the 6 or so playthroughs i've done of new vegas i always went 9 luck cause i would get a +1 luck item from somewhere and then head to the casinos and empty them out right off the bat. doing the 9 luck started with my combat armor reservist rifle lucky shades guy in fo3

    I usually take the following:
    STR 4 (6 w/implant + Intense Training)
    PER 5 (6 w/implant)
    END 6
    CHR 1
    INT 9 (10 w/implant)
    AGL 6 (8 w/implant + Small Frame)
    LCK 8 (9 w/implant)
    Traits: Skilled + Small Frame
    Tags: Barter (or Speech), Guns, Lockpick
    The first thing I do after leaving Doc Mitchell's office is run for the New Vegas Medical Clinic and the Atomic Wrangler to get my INT up to 10 before level 2. It's worth stopping at the gate to The Strip to pass the credit check at that time, as well, since that beats getting a passport or taking the monorail in.
    As for getting to New Vegas from Goodsprings, the safest route is through Nipton, but another decent route I've found is past Neil's Shack toward REPCONN Headquarters. Other routes exist but can be tougher.

      if you aren't using a mod like Jsawyer's that reduces the level cap (50 by default with all 4 DLCs) then you don't need nearly that much INT to max out every skill that you care about. 6 Int (7 after getting the Implant at level 1) plus the either the educated perk or comprehension depending on how good you are at skill book hunting is more than enough, this lets pump up endurance to 8 or 9 be able to get every implant you want and not need to take small frame.

    What's important is to know in advance which perks you're going to choose and make a plan. I disagree on charisma. It's not as useless as perception. Perception's only use (and worth putting in 5 points at the start) are the two perks "Sniper" and of course "Better Criticals". I don't get people who put "some points" into charisma. Either you start at 9 to later max out your companion's damage and armor via implant or you leave it at 1. Everything in between makes no sense.

    • @reillywalker195
      @reillywalker195 Před rokem +1

      Leaving charisma at 5 and getting the implant for it makes it possible to get the Animal Friend perk with minimal investment, which is definitely useful for exploring Zion and several locations in the Mojave.

    So if I have low Intelligence, does it mean that everytime I level up my skill points will be less? And accumulatively, someone with low INT will have less skill points to upgrade skills than someone with high INT?

    • @originallyham
      @originallyham Před 2 lety +14

      skill point gained per level follows this formula: 10 + (INT * 0.5)
      so if you have 1 INT, you gain 10.5 points per level up (any partial points are carried over to the next level up)
      at 10 INT, you will gain 15 points per level up
      if you gain intelligence through the course of a playthrough (implant, intense training, reward at the end of DLC), you will gain additional skill points on any subsequent level ups

    My usual build strategy is 9 Luck (10 once I have the implant), 9 Intelligence (+ implant), 1 Charisma, 1 Perception, 7 Endurance (8 with implant, which allows me to tangle with cazadores without burning through antivenom, and I don't care about the Charisma or Perception implants), and the rest into Strength.

    • @pablerarav9016
      @pablerarav9016 Před 2 lety +5

      That's one play style I can't understand -- do you really end up using all three snipers? I carry one rifle, one pistol, a melee weapon, and some grenades. Does fine for me.

    • @gregoryeverson741
      @gregoryeverson741 Před 2 lety +3

      @@pablerarav9016 yes, hunting rifle is my main gun, sniper rifle for sniping, 50 cal for hard enemies

    • @pablerarav9016
      @pablerarav9016 Před 2 lety +2

      Fair, but you'd save some carry capacity by downizing a bit. The Hunting Rifle is awkwardly aligned so I tend not to use it. The Anti-Materiel sounds good on paper, but it's so slow, you end up doing more damage with just the .308 Sniper. Armor-Piercing rounds will tear through anything tougher that you think you might need the .50 for.
      Alternatively, you could use the All American or a regular Marksman Carbine for most encounters -- bloody hell is that thing ever versatile.
      Don't get me wrong, there's no right or wrong way to play the game, but I found it very relieving when I prioritized weapons that were all-around good for most situations, instead of carrying every weapon that was technically best for very specific situations, but that I rarely used.

      @pablerarav9016 Před 2 lety +3

      @@gregoryeverson741 yeah, I don't use automatics very often either. The Light Machinegun is pretty good at Hoover Dam, though; spraying AP ammo is great against all those Centurions or Rangers.
      It's probably mostly just different playstyles (I loot a lot because I like crafting), but three rifles still feels a bit redundant.

    I tried to explain to a fellow Fallout fan one time, that SPECIAL is mostly copy-pasted from dungeons &dragons rules.
    Strength = Strength
    Perception = Wisdom
    Endurance = Constitution
    Charisma = Charisma
    Intelligence = Intelligence
    Agility = Dexterity
    Luck = rolling dice and maybe you get a 1 or a 20.
    They all pretty much affect the same stuff.
    Church it up all you want. You're still doing a dungeon crawl like Elliot in E.T.

    Would be easy to fix Charisma but unfun. 4. less money and reputation; 3. people, good or evil, will take your actions wrongly in quests so you are always **eckd up; 2. people, good or evil, will refuse any quest besides the main quest; 1. people will never talk to you so you are free to wander the wastes alone.

    • @benito1620
      @benito1620 Před 11 měsíci +1

      all they would need to do is add more Charisma checks (there are only THREE charisma checks in the vanilla game, one of which is bypassed with 60 speech, and the other two do basically nothing), and maybe a couple more perks with Charisma requirements.
