Yeah, it was clear that by Final Nightmare, they simply didn't care anymore. Hell, even the Freddy makeup looks half-assed, almost as if it were some sort of rush job.
Well, New Nightmare was supposed to be one that brought back to real horror by the series creator himself, and it ended up with the dumbest plot of the whole series: Making all the shitty movies is what kept Freddy sealed in video tapes, but destroying said tapes is what kills him.
Actually I like New Nightmare and it's up there with 1 and 3 as one of the best in the series.
If you say so, because my honest take from it was that I couldn't believe they actually expected me to take it seriously.
Somebody made a flash game based on "Freddy's Dead: the Final Nightmare", it's called "Nightmare House" by Afro-Ninja Productions (a remake of a crappier version).
It even includes the "In a gadda da Vida" part and makes it into a mini game

For the new game, will always recommend Marvel's Spider-Man as it is one of the best games revolving around the character and it's available for PC.

The two worst of the franchise, but in return the seventh is a contender for the best of the franchise.
