How to Install a Fuel Pressure Sensor on your Gen 3 LS-based Engine

- In this episode I install a fuel pressure gauge and a fuel pressure sensor that can be logged with the VCM Scanner in HP Tuners. I do this by wiring it into the fuel tank pressure sensor circuit. I also show how to set up the custom User Math formula in HP Tuners to convert the sensor voltage to a useable pressure reading.

Very helpful video saved me a bunch of head scratching.
This video helped me out a ton. Appreciate your time! I went through my A/c circuit just to verify I was losing fuel pressure at WOT and sure enough I am. That’s why my VE looks jacked at high rpm and it’s still going a touch lean
Awesome video, thank you for this. I've been trying to figure out how i was gonna log fuel pressure in Hp tuners on my gen 3 swap. This video defiantly took out this the guess work .
That was so good LB. Going from something that was a big mystery through a step by step unravelling of the puzzle. this video was like a window opening, letting in more and more light till the mystery was laid bare. Bravo. Awesome work.
Great content.. Keep them coming ..
Awesome video Randy! Great info and how to!
Jeff H thanks, and thanks again for the hat!
Your
excellent video thanks
Enjoyed your vid on adding a fuel pressure sensor. Just a couple of notes. Don't repeat yourself so much, and as a career tech, when I make wiring quick disconnections I always use weather pack connectors. being low buck myself, I'll go to weacking yards and scavange male and the matching female connection with a bit of wire where I can easily make weather proof heat shrink connectsion anions. I keep a inventoty of 2, 3, 4, etc connections. it will save a lot of future time chasing electrical faults from corrosion and oxidation. Keep doing your good Videos!
Great video good detail 👍
Well done, thank you.
Very good!
excellent tutorial.
nice
Great video, just A FYI You could of just Splice/ connect it to the ECU instead of crawling underneath the truck
Mind me asking which fuel pressure sensor is the one you used? Have you run into any reliability issues?
Can we not just wire directly to the hp tuner pro link ? Thanks for video btw.
Could you help me with the Pin out for the egr, or connecting the sensor straight to the pcm. Trying to figure this out, need a little help. Thanks
Whats the part numbered office that fuel pressure sensor. Thanks
Won`t the resistence in the wire that you`re using change the out put of your readings ?
Another Q, where can I find more info about using A/C switch signal wire for this, that you mentioned? I googled, must not be using correct search terms. Thx!
Anyone know if there’s a video on installing a fuel pressure regular on a TBSS intake on a Silverado Gen3 I’ve seen how to do it with the corvette style filter/regular but I want to do the aeromotive style regular and put a gauge on it
In not sure if this will have any affect over the sensor but did you take into account atmospheric pressure I'm thinking thats why it was 0.491 at 0psi. Keep up the videos man I like em
Nevermind lol I see how you fixed it.
its probably on a absolute scale which 0 will be vacuum
Hi there, Do you use the fuel pressure sensor for injector control etc or monitoring/logging only?
crackerbuzz it’s just for monitoring it doesn’t control anything
@@LowbuckLS Thanks mate. Awesome!
Randy, which version of HP tuners are you using? The standard or Pro?
Just the Standard one.
Would that formula work for me if I bought that same fuel pressure sensor or would I have to do everything you did to measure it?
Tim Artrip should work as long as it’s the same sensor
@@LowbuckLS thanks! can I give you a call or email? I bought a low dollar motorsports 0-100psi sensor and can not figure out what to do, I followed your video step by step by my numbers on my sensor are WAY different than yours. if you go to their website there is a graph on the sensor I bought. he also gave me these numbers on the phone.... " 0v = 12.5psi and 5v = 112.5psi... idk who else to ask and cant find anymore videos besides this one
Where did the number 0.51 come from?🛑🛑🛑
What was your fuel pressure at wot before you changed to the hellcat pump? Mine is dropping to 45psi under wot does that sound too low? 01 camaro z28 stock fuel system and motor.
At WOT mine was even lower sometimes getting below 30, 28ish. 45 is still to low in my opinion especially if you’re boosted.
Lowbuck LS thanks for the reply. Sometimes I’m around 48psi wot at best, sounds like I’ll be getting a fuel pump soon. I’m n/a pretty much stock besides headers and 3” exhaust. You post great videos man!
This might be a dumb question, will disconnecting the fuel tank pressure sensor, hooking it to a very different load throw a code?
It hasn't thrown a code or turned on the check engine light or caused any problems that I've been able to notice so far.
@@LowbuckLS
No codes, OK, well that's cool. I have an 07 2500, completely stock with check engine light on and thinking about plunging into HP Tuners, hoping I can figure out what that code is.. and more. I just found your channel and have just begun to watch. Awesome to see you working hard at this and sharing. Also I've been watching Matt over at sloppy mech. for a year or so, great stuff, again thanks for posting all the great really detailed videos.
why not just run from the pcm to the sensor. just look up which wire is the input for that tank pressure sensor at the pcm and cut in there. from there you could just tuck it into the main harness back to on top of the intake.
That would have worked too just didn’t think of doing it that way
And attach the sensor right on the Schrader valve using the adaptor.
I thought about doing that, just figured the sensor would be subject to less vibration if it was mounted away from the engine.
@@LowbuckLS i had my mounted on the Schrader for awhile, change to a af fuel rail due to going tbss intake. Never had any issues. It's a road racing car with super stiff suspension and engine mounts. Races for 14 plus hours over a weekend.
My concern would be adding more potential leak/ failure points.
@@LowbuckLS heres an example of the abuse my sensor see.

Why not running 1 to 1 regulator . stock regulator is not for boost
Actually the stock regulator is referenced to manifold pressure and does increase fuel pressure as boost increases. I’m sure at a certain level I’ll need to upgrade though
@@LowbuckLS oh ok i didn't know that 👍
@@LowbuckLS at what hp range does this fpr crap out at?
And what fuel pump are you running?
@@PgnGbltr I don’t know exactly, but I know of a guy running 9’s in the quarter mile with the stock fuel rails and regulator
Why not just use the proper gauge? Pretty dumb
which is the proper gauge? Pretty dumb to suggest something and not give any specifics..
