- Adam unveils his new shop workbench made over the past few months by engineer and woodworker Andrew Klein. Andrew delivered and installed the workbench while Adam was recently traveling, and Adam films his first reaction to seeing this gorgeous workbench in the cave and testing its features! We also get Andrew on the line to talk about its integrated functionality, including a surprise implementation of Adam's LED bench light!

@@AndrewKleinWW I've been waiting on him finally posting a video about this. I'm SO glad he likes it! Kudos for you and Matt Cremona's slab. Best wishes to you both!
Andy is a friend of mine and he's an absolute genius! It was super fun to see how giddy Adam was with his new bench. Congrats Adam on the new lifetime bench and congrats Andy on the well-deserved and earned recognition for your awesome talent!
I was think the same thing, I love to see Adam get giddy, shows how down to earth and human he is
@@ghost4realbitch he follows one of the rules of life: never loose your inner child. It is inspiring to witness
@@JonasNeumann6 I totally agree
Well Said! Andy is truly an inspiration and he is someone who motivated me to get back into making and designing again. So cool watching this little piece of history go down, Andrew creating a master piece, for the legend Adam Savage! Seeing him get so excited over it put a smile on my face the whole time..and I get to reply to another Woodworking Legend, Mr. Drew Fishers, comment! Much Respect to all of you, I'll be joining the community very soon and hope to add to this great scene! Adam and Andrew , the 2020 A-Team!
Except there's no unnecessary walnut or slotted screws.
Andrew is the best!!
David is the best!
Thanks!
Yes
I was almost expecting 25 minutes of Adam going "Oh WOW!"
What a beautiful creation. I know it will get tremendous good use!
25 minutes of happy Adam? that's in the same league as puppies and kittens and giggling toddlers. I'd totally watch that.
“Double slab bench! Oh wow! What does it mean?!? Oh wow! Double slab bench! Wow!”
This video just confirmed the Law Of Attraction : Great people attract great people.
The fact you are here watching/commenting on this video as well double confirms it ^_^ !
I have two youtube tabs open at the moment...Adam with his new bench and some weird French guy getting some other French guys to judge some sauce he made. What are the chances!?!
Tiens, Alex ! Pourquoi je ne suis pas étonné de te voir sur cette chaîne ? J'avais jamais remarqué avant mais vous avez la même énergie toi et Adam pour inventer des solutions à vos problèmes ! Hâte de voir tes prochaines vidéos.
Ugh...guess that means I'm not a great person- At All
When are you getting one? :)
I have not seen such giddy joy since Christmas morning almost 40 yrs ago. My daughters were trembling with excitement to show mom and dad what Santa had brought. They were 7 and 4 years old and the first time that both could truly appreciate the awe and mystery of the season. Thanks for this flashback!
So awesome to see this. Andy is a genius! Enjoy the bench!
by the time i got to this comment and heard adam savage is reading, probably, chris schwarz's book it felt like a whole bunch of awesomeness i enjoy collided.
Complete genius! I have one of his vises myself, and it is a thing of beauty.
I don't often smile for 25 minutes...
But seeing Adam's genuine happiness and excitement was just so heartwarming :)
Really good to see this bench come together and Adam enjoying it.
I hadn't noticed I was smiling as well for the entire duration of the video :)
@@alejandronan607 Yeah, same here. It's great to see such pure joy. Not to mention the craftsmanship that went into that bench!
X4!
The exposed gearwork vice is a work of art. Beautiful table, well done.
Such a cool vise!
Coming from Jason (a man who takes the time to innovate and improve on existing designs) that's high praise 👍
Needs to be motorized.
not as big as yours tho eh? :D
I let out an audible "oooohhh" when I saw it lol
You need to show Adam your giant vise!!!
When a man is literally short of breath out of sheer joy and excitement, you know that man is pleased 😂
For anyone curious, the slabs come from Matt Cremona. He's got a great woodworking channel on CZcams, and he built an amazing backyard bandsaw to be able to create those slabs himself.
Excited to see how Adam uses the new bench!
Exactly! When he just said “friend” I was just hoping he’d eventually have the wherewithal to remember to plug Matt 🤯
And he's selling them! I think the first batch sold out immediately, but there will be more
i had a feeling those were cremona slabs. silver maple and vacuum kilned.
We’ll let Andy enjoy the spotlight ☺️
@@mcremona Hi Matt :D I see Marc in the comments too, was Shannon too upset about the specter of steel legs on a workbench to tag along?
That’s deserving of a design museum
Adam's pure childlike excitement about a bench is the energy we need this year.
I agree! Apropos childlike: 3:40 it looks really phallic :D
You know your bench is pimp when the vise has its own transmission.
He'll never take it off "fast" mode.
I absolutley love the way the zoom call was shot. With another camera. It adds so much more to the dynamic.
Twoodfrd is amazing. I binged all of his videos and immediately watch anything new. It’s a pleasure watching a master who cares that deeply work.
Same it's always a good day when he uploads a new video!
I wait anxiously every week for a notification haha
Andrew is a mad genius! I love the maker community!
Besides making workbenches, Andrew is a brilliant inventor. This is a beautiful tool you’ve gotten!
i bet he was probably just as excited to build it for you adam!!! to return all the pleasure you have given us the real fans...thank you sir
beautiful work bench!!! Adam, you should make a "brake glass only in emergency" box for that allen key with magnets and place it on the bench, that way it will look great and you wont lose it!!! greetings from Spain!
Saw this start on Matts channel when he cut the slabs and been following the progress and waiting for this final reveal :-)
That's right
Andrew Klein is an amazing designer. I'd love to own one of his benches. Great addition to the shop!
2:30 Not even 3 minutes in and Adam is already looking at moding it. I love it. Thanks guys I appreciate it.
SHOUTOUT TO TED WOODFORD THE GOAT!! Love how all of my favorite woodworking channels are intertwining themselves here! Woodford, Cremona, Klein and Savage all in one video sheesh
Love Ted's channel. A guy who knows what he's doing compared to some luthier channels!
ha! that's what i wwas thinking too. and throw in a bunch of comments by chans i watch too. was pretty cool.
I think I saw Matthew Cremona mill the tops of your work bench on his channel
Two seconds into this video, and I had to pause just to comment that I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO!!! Thank you to Andrew Klein for telling us the story of this bench, and to the Tested crew for bringing it to us!
Am i the only one watching almost all one day build videos with a stupid smile on my face.
Another great workbench book is Chris Schwarz’s Theory and Design of Workbenches. Great history of why these great old designs continue to work today.
Just bought this; excellent!
Seeing someone lose it over something you made must be a really good feeling.
Andrew, i'm proud of you, son.
I love how excited Adam is about this. It’s infectious.
I have no regrets about watching a childlike Adam straight up dad-slap a table for 10 straight minutes. 10/10 would recommend.
Man, just as I'm planning a custom bench build of my own... Perfect timing!
I've been planning on making another workbench for years. Wood is expensive though.
Shout out to Ted Woodford (twoodfrd)! I've been watching his stuff for a long time, and it's awesome to see you watch him, too! A real master craftsman!
Attach the Allen wrench to the steel legs with magnets and you'll always know where it is. Enjoy that bench!
It’s only needed if you are taking the bench apart. Can’t imagine Adam will ever need to do that, I’d put it in the trash, and leave it to the movers to figure out how to move the bench if needed.
@@SpydieFan you trust movers to not screw it up more than I do. :)
@@SpydieFan oooor it can just sit on the leg and be there when you need it ya goofball
@@TheRealSykx Maybe, but take it from someone who has moved a shop across the country along with 4 small children and a large cluttered house, you can’t do everything, and you need to rely on good movers.
YEsss. I've been waiting for this video since Andrew finished building it. Since Matt cut the slabs, actually.
He might not have been able to. Sometime YT and production rules get like that.
Luckily the comment section has no such qualms.
This video displays such a broad range of human greatness. Ingenuity, respect, joy, exuberance, gratitude, humility, creativity, etc…thank you for restoring my faith in humanity!
The level of 'at their peak of their profession' in this video is astounding
Adam, after you shared the story of Grant's impression of you, I can't help but think of Grant evey time you start drumming on stuff.
The sheer joy Adam displays in the video brings a massive smile to my face!
Not having much knowledge of how much such things should cost, I went to Andrew's website just to check it out, and was surprised at how reasonable some of these pieces seemed. Funny to hear he addresses this when talking about the vise.
His site doesn't work here for me. I just get a Forbidden error.
Man am I happy for you. If anyone deserves on of these it is you. Always inspiring, always making. And so two amazing makers came together. My feel good video for this week for sure seeing how happy this makes you Adam. Andrew Klein is a master and this just proves it once more.
Andrew Klein is far more than a workbench builder Adam, you should get to know him better. He is one of the most amazing maker inventors out there right now. You should have him on the show some time to let him showcase some of his mad genius.
I think he just did!
Like a kid on Christmas morning. Heart warming. Enjoy!
THAT is a work of art. Many kudos to Andrew!!! Ans Adam looks like a kid in a candy shop. its so nice to see him smile so big.
17:57 - Should just make a clip for the custom disassembly allen wrench that stores it in or on the bench somewhere.
Or maybe a magnet?
When Adam activated the magswitches before attaching it to the workbench I held my breath
That thing is a BEAST! It looks completely bombproof for a start, and full of nifty stuff!
Holy hell I'm drooling and I think I may even cry. That is a dream.
I want someone to love me the way Adam loves his tools....
Then you need to do for someone like Adam's tools do for him.
Best I can do is complain on the internet
Then they'll also be in love with 100 other people, considering Adam seems to say that EVERY one of his tools is his favorite XD
@@darksunrise957 Adam has a regular harem going on in his mancave. As it should be in paradise.
@@frep420 in cyberspace no one cares if you scream.
The best thing about a good workbench is it makes your existing tools work SO MUCH BETTER. Planing, sawing, chiseling even knocking things together with a hammer are way more efficient on a heavy workbench with a strong stable vice.
I have such an appreciation for passion and quality beyond a simple ooh and ahh when it comes to any sort of work, but this is above and beyond. quite possibly the nicest bench I have ever seen. thank you for sharing.
Drinking game: take a shot every time Adam slaps the bench top.
Also, very happy to see a workbench in his shop that isn't wobbling all over the place.
Thish wash a fantashtic ide....
Yeah that workbench is about as solid as Adam's milling machine is. Now I want to see Adam do some serious joinery on it.
No, I want to live.
Like the monolith from 2001 Space Odyssey, these big solid slabs have to be felt to understand how their reality.
Does any one have a “slap” counter for how many times adam slaps the new work bench? Ha ha 🤣
Heh, I'm glad I got my twin turbo vise from the kickstarter, because they're going to be sold out for a million years now that this video came out
@pisswobble twin turbo vices are far more expensive over time
@pisswobble I can't tell if you're being serious, but it's very much vise.
Although I do have a vise vice, so there's that.
@pisswobble vice and vise are two different words. Vice means "immoral or wicked behavior" and vise is a clamp. Maybe, just maybe, you're trolling.
Brother...that is a work of functional art!!! Just beautiful!!! Hats off to the builder!!!
It brings me so much joy to watch you geek out over stuff like this.
Been waiting for this one, been watching the progress over on Andrew’s channel.
I wish I could fast forward 5 years to see the amount of abuse this bench is going to endure living in Adam’s shop.
Yeah screw the piece of leather. That bench was made to work on. It'll put up with a lifetime worth of use and abuse. A few scars don't take away from a workbench either.
id love to see a time lapse of the bench over the next 5 years.
@@1pcfred .. yeah , the scars will just add to the benches story
I'm so glad that this video exists: I'd noticed the gearing of the vises in a more recent video and wondered why the comments weren't full of "OMG! What is up with that workbench?" and this is why. Wow, what a work of art.
WOW! Pure loveliness in wood. Andrew is a genius
There may not be any home movies of Adam as a child on Christmas day, but here folks is what I imagine it looked like.
My jaws didn't close for five freakin' minutes. Damn fine work.
9:51 into the video and I am....WOW THAT IS STUNNING!!!!!! I don't know if I'd build, construct, assemble on that work of art !! Just unbelievable...I do not know who Andrew is but he is a helluva maker !! Adam, Congratulations on your new bench!!
You can't take the sky from me!
I always gets a little happy and warm inside when I see the firefly poster in any of Adam's videos 😀
Need to get one of those at home!
(and maybe it is time to see the show once again... 😊)
Found Andy through Marc Spagnolo, The WoodWhisperer, also found Matt Cremona, master slabber, through Marc. 3 friends who have noteworthy channels and collaborate on projects.
Just in case anyone wants to know where the lumber came from for the bench. czcams.com/video/NB9rJa65tNw/video.html Matthew Cremona. and of coarse Andrew Klein turned it to a work of art.
Thats an amazing bench, designed with care, built with loving intent. I've been following the build from the beginning & I've been waiting very impatiently for your reveal & reaction. So worth the wait! I can't wait to see the first project you build on it! Can't wait to watch you explore the functionality of your new toy! Good luck to you sir!
The joy of a new tool making Adam grin like a kid on Christmas morning.
Watching this zoom call without listening to mine XD
Adam: Points out the magnet thing on the leg twice still doesn't explain it at all.
It’s a mag-lock, so you can turn the magnet on or off and use it to attach stuff to the bench. It’s pretty cool, it works by aligning or un-aligning the poles of two neodymium magnets.
@@calebm.5698 Thanks! :D
Adam did a video on those magnets.
What a beautiful piece of work. I would give anything for such a piece. Thank you for sharing this with us, Adam, I'm sure you'll get many years of joy from it.
Twoodfrd and Rosa Stringworks are the best!
Rosa is just painful. Sometimes he seems like he's blindly guessing. I would never let that guy touch one of my guitars.
I find both of their channels both informative and entertaining!
@@Wizardofgosz Twoodfrd seems like a heart surgeon, Rosa seems like he throws things to see what sticks.
@@bigmac51290 yeah. Plus the cranky old man thing got old.
I love watching both. But there’s only guy I’d send a my guitar to get fixed.
Jerry makes some nice stuff but many times I’m watching thru cracks in my fingers.
At times he is a craftsman...at other times he’s a pure hack!
Like a child in xmas morning.
Source wood: Matt Cremona.
What an awesome collaboration to have such an amazing bench for working on. I love the simplicity of the function derived from the complexity of the build. When something is so well thought through it is a true joy to behold.
beautiful bench .. the perspex / acrylic protecting & showing the gears is the cherry on top
Everyone: Y NO SHOUTOUT TO MATT CREMONA
Come on guys, it’s a casual friendly zoom call conversation. Just because it’s between high profile individuals doesn’t mean you should take every opportunity to sound like you’re trying to sell or promote something/someone. This was a casual conversation between two guys discussing on a workbench one made and the other is happy to receive, that so happens to get uploaded on a prominent channel. Do you like talking to someone who keeps talking about where he got his shoes or who made his shirt every 5 minutes? I’m sure Andrew would have given Matt a shoutout if he knew Adam better personally but this is their first time talking to each other live and it’s as clean as it gets without any script. Giving a shoutout to someone else on the channel of a person you’re literally talking to for the first time unscripted and perhaps wasn’t even expecting this video to be uploaded then is just too weird and frankly rude. I can see many of those who complained about this are mainly woodworking fans who are already familiar with this craft and obviously who the prominent players are but keep in mind this channel is not a woodworking-focused channel so don’t expect to have the same interaction and experience as you would from your usual channel.
Gonna be weird to see you finally work on a decent surface.
Can't believe how much I enjoyed this video of creative types geeking over something!
duuudes and dudettes THIS is not a workbench, its THE workbench! I have never ever seen such a steady and good bench like this. Andrew has made the chuck norris under the workbenches.....coolest bench ever seen
I was concerned when I saw how precise the vises looked, since I'd recently watched a Rex Krueger video on how a perfectly parallel vise can make it difficult to hold certain objects (so obviously I'm an expert now)...and then 6:49.
Andrew: "Forgot to tell you Adam, you can't use this bench until Dec 25th"
Somebody pick Adam up off the floor.....
Loving watching you geek out over this bench. I have been watching Andy for some time, as well as Matt who milled the lumber for this bench. Both of whom are amazing craftsman, and contributors to the community. Such a joy to watch this unfold.
I just spend half an hour watching a grown man geek out over a workbench, and I loved every minute of it.
MATT CREMONA!!! What a wasted opportunity to plug a “friend’s” channel/business/craftsmanship! For those of you who don’t know, Matt Cremona is the magician behind the monolithic slabs, as they’re referred to in the video. If you want to know anything from traditional fine woodworking skills right down to the science of the materials (i.e. lumber) used, then Matt Cremona is a great channel to check out.
its almost too pretty, i wouldnt wanna work on that and destroy it 😅
This is so crazy seeing all my favorite youtubers connecting like this. Worlds colliding! God damn I want that workbench 😂
The laugh at 8:18 speaks to me, there is something about the joy of a new tool, coupled with the potential of what you will use it for, that elates.
omg the work that Mr Klein did on this build is AMAZING. congrats on your Bench Adam :) A True work of Art.
I love the true Emotional feeling Adam expresses.
Wow, that vice makes it just next level. Truly a "Rolex" of a workbench. Delicious.
A big thumbs up for those vices. They are works of art that gives me the fizz!
Wow never in my life have I seen a more beautiful workbench what a masterpiece devices along I’ve mentioned before because you’ve had it covered with leather and I couldn’t see the workbench but I saw that face and I like had to tell you that it dazzles me but now that you show the entire workbench and there’s a second vice on the other end incredible I showed my wife it’s what I want for Christmas
Been watching Andy's YT channel for ages. What a brilliant, hard working guy. He deserves the recognition.
Excellent advertising!! Brilliant bench and brilliant exposition of bench and Adam does it fabulous justice
The was just the wholesome content I needed today. Thanks! Congrats to Adam on the amazing new workbench.
Ive been wondering about this workbench for so long! Awesome to see it finally in the shop.
A functional piece of art, So fun to be able to deeply appreciate it with you. I bought a Boos Block table some years ago for my kitchen, man I so enjoy just touching it.
I've never been jealous of a bench before ... that thing is a beautiful work of art and utility. Love seeing Adam's excitement for, well what seems like, everything. It is SO refreshing.
Thank you both, what a beautiful piece
It was very cool to watch this starting with the video by Matt Cremora of the slabs being produced, to Andrew's buildout, to the reveal here.
