    There is the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 that is the direct competitor to this lens, great lens but ended up picking the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 DC DN C for my camera. But if you are looking at the Sigma 23mm f1.4, either save a few bucks and go with the Viltrox, or just get the 18-50mm f2.8, if you want one lens to rule them all.

      The Sigma 18-50mm is so dang good I had a hard time to decide if the 23mm makes any sense on top of it. It does when low light is a frequent issue. Otherwise, the 18-50mm has one covered! The Viltrox, on the other hand, never convinced me.

    • @PeeHooo
      @PeeHooo Před rokem +1

      You can't really say that 2.8 lens would serve similar purpose to 1.4 lens. That is quite massive difference in terms of light gathering and therefore image quality in low light.

    • @zmimgo
      @zmimgo Před rokem +1

      @@PeeHooo the only part where an f2.8 zoom loses (except for price, but the 18-50 f2.8 and 23mm f1.4 are priced similarely anyways) is in light gathering ability. If you want a more pronounced background separation, the telephoto range of a zoom will simply be better than an 35mm in most cases.

      Sigma is not known for small lenses. Their principle is that the image quality dominates. The Canon EF-M 22 mm f/2.0 is very nice. With it the M50 is like a compact camera.

      Point of the video was to compare 24/1.4 lenses on APS-C, which so far was only the GM, which is not designed for APS-C and hence you don't get your money's worth on APS-C. Sigma fixed that. Comparing it to 35GM on FF would make it more of an APS-C - FF discussion, in which case you'd need to compare it to a 35/2 instead of the 35/1.4.

    If the Sigma is an APS-C lens, why is there STILL a crop factor and hit to the f-stop? Why not have a 24mm APS-C give you the same view angle as a 24mm on a given full-frame? Why is the f-stop still "factored" for APS-C? If all that changes are about the height and width of the lens projection, then what's the point of making it specifically for APS-C, cost alone? Why do they call it a 24mm when the crop factor makes it a 36mm? Why not just call it a 36mm, DX f/2.1? Nobody is going to put this lens on their full-frame body and not get horrible vignetting, so why all the skewed numbers?

    And then there is “God Mode” Fuji 18mm F/1.4

    The anti Fuji bias is strong again. Nobody cares about Sony APSC. This lens is clearly made mostly for Fuji X Mount more than anything else.

      Total afterthought here. On the other hand, I doubt I'd go for this lens anyway. Fuji has better choices.

      @@charliejg I agree. I’m a little irritated that Fuji isn’t getting the “I” series metal lenses. We keep getting the cheaply made ones. Apparently the 16mm is the best one out of the bunch. I’ve tried the 56mm and it’s ok, but nowhere near as good as the new Fuji 56mm 1.2 WR. That thing is magic. And the 18-50 is decent, but just doesn’t match up to the 16-55 2.8 from Fuji. We need Art lenses. Not cheap plastic feeling lenses.

      @@JET-Photo I can't afford that new 56, wish I could. But, I was finally able to find a version 1.0 XF56 back in fall. The only complaint I have with it is the loose aperture ring. I have used that lens for so many things since I got. From portraits to hiking it's been awesome.

      @@charliejg you aren’t missing anything as far as image quality. Focus is a little faster but not by much. They should’ve put the linear motors inside the new one. Still a great lens no matter what version you have.

      @@JET-Photo Yeah, I was surprised that the linear motors weren't used. The 90 has them and it makes a big difference.

    I took a fall and destroyed my back and had to find a camera system that was light weight and picked the Sony A6000 and replaced the kit lens with the Three Sigma APS F2.8 lens and was truly surprised how good they were back 30 years ago Sigma lens where now just order this lens

    Sony is horrible with firmware and bringing features to cameras after the sale. Canon won't allow third party lenses. This is obnoxious.

    No aperture ring, and much bigger than the Fujinon XF 23mm F1.4 R. I hoped for a real Fujinon alternative, was happy after the Sigma announcement 2022, but sadly, this isn't it for Fuji Users.
