This is farther supported by the false frost dragon lord being level 42-47 but the quaga leader saying "even the miniscule damage each of us cause would eventually defeat him" stating there way weaker then level 42

It's kinda funny that Ainz's goal for the people of Nazarick is to treat him like an equal like "friends" would, but they can only rever him, but the only figure in Nazarick who comes close (other than PA) is Shalltear. The others can't even begin to fathom Ainz being wrong and consider him a perfect being, but as shown even if Ainz was wrong, Shalltear's entire world-view wouldn't be broken and she'd just write it off as _"Huh. Well, that doesn't happen often."_
Which is pretty neat considering that Peroronchino, her creator, was essentially best friends with Ainz, and Shalltear being the NPC Ainz knows best after Pandora's Actor.
You should remember that in the first episode, ainz change shaltier's code slightly to be madly in love with him before the server was supposed to shut down.

He didn't make a mistake in this episode though. This is the part others gloss over. Not saying you did but it's important that people understand that Ainz is trying to level up all of his people. That just because they were capped out before, he understands that this is a new place with similarities but he's also seen discrepancies as well. In this episode he was trying to teach Shaltear to look more carefully at things especially since her nature was to dive headlong into battle particularly in a blood rage. Aurora is a sharper student and thus that was why Ainz shushed her.

During this time Shalltear was desperate to atone for her past mistake and to prove that she is deserving of being a floor guardian. After learning of what she had done, Shalltear became very depressed as she felt she wasn't punished enough nor was doing anything noteworthy to make up for her mistake.
This is why she was holding back her blood craze during her battle in this arc. A part of her definitely want to let loose and go into a blood craze like before, but she controls herself due to not wanting to lose control and disappoint Ainz.
This is one of my most favorite arc in the light novels due to learning a new race and their culture plus most importantly Shalltear's development.
I always dug how right when she got hit with the world level item, she still got a shot off and killed two of the black scripture.
And considering her past mistake was full of her fault since she abandon her servant/guard and plays with her main objective and almost kill Ainz, imagine how terrible she felt. Side note the way Ainz decide he will kill Shaltear himself was great, considering if they sent guardian floor to do that even if they win they're hatred to Shaltear will remain.

Fun fact the clan leader didn't mind submitting to someone stronger then them if it meant keeping his people safe but while Aura and Shalltear confidence was apparent since they lack fur that's all the clan leader could tell and since if they joined nazerik it would mean the frost dragon lord would kill them he didn't see how 2 people could beat 50k since Shalltear and aura hadn't shown there power

I mean, they kinda did show you how powerful they were. They approached an army of 50,000 and said, "Submit or die," without any fear or hesitation. If 2 individuals believe they can fight 50,000 and win, they must be very confident in their own strength.
Especially since they weren’t being cocky. I think things may have turned out a little different if they asked for a show of strength first

History shows that being cocky is a sign of weakness. Like that one city who's gates were wide open with a guy on the top playing a diddy. The city was defenseless reinforcements were 2 days away but the bravado tricked the enemy into holding off in fear of a trap. That hesitation ended the invaders.
1: Quagoas in general only lived in the mountains, the strongest beings on there are the frost dragons and frost trolls and they huge af compared to them, they never go above ground and, literally has no concept of what the world is. So 2 ordinary nonchalant small beings approaching them means weak.

I feel a bit bad for the Clan Leader. Though he was waging war on the Dwarves, he had no basis to realise that the vast majority of his race were about to be slaughtered.
He's just left thinking 'Why didn't they display their power?!' which is a very fair question.

Well...Because in the world they come from that is the stupidest thing you could do in a fight. The moment your enemy knows how tough you are they know how to deal with you and eventually beat you so you never show your best cards until the end of the game. You just happened to be unlucky in the fact that you were not their enemy, just a clan that happened to catch Ainz's eye.

By season 4, Nazarick/Sorcerer Kingdom is basically at the villain level IMO.
They have made overt offensive moves like conquering an entire kingdom, killing thousands of people.
Before, in season 1-3, it was still ambiguous and Ainz was mostly discovering the world and a sort of grey character.
I would really like to see more seasons to see where this goes.

@@GreenFart174 What's happening as I understand it, is that he is the soul of his human self inside his game character, which is an evil undead lich. So the world and his character transform his human emotions into that of the actual undead as time goes by. So basically he is losing his humanity more and more as he goes into the Elder Lich character. Long term he'll basically become the lich king of Warcraft lol.

Ainz has always been the main villain. Early on he was exploring and getting a feel for the new world, but has always been seeking more power and influence just like any other major villain. Ainz or rather the guardians have been planning to take control of the world since the first few days they arrived in the new world. In Overlord, those with power are often psychotic villains or corrupt noblemen and so Nazarick does tend to cull other villains rather than good guys, but after killing Gazef and taking E-Rantel, people are finally catching on that Ainz is the villain.

While each one technically had the power to overwrite one of the rules of the game, there were 20 among them that were significantly more broken in their level of power. As such they consumed themselves upon activation and could only be used once. Of these items, Ains Ooal Gown is only in possession of 2. Powers of the 20 include the ability to completely rewrite the magic system of Yggdrasil (speculated to be how Yggdrasil magic was brought to the new world), to completely erase a being from existence just by stating their name (at the cost of the user’s own life also), or to cause instant death to anything with a negative karma rating with an AoE that spans an entire world

I think a lot of people seem to miss the central theme of why people like the story of Overlord overall: It's main theme is actually humility vs arrogance. Throughout all of the arcs those who carry a lot of arrogance tend to meet untimely ends, while those who are willing to bow their heads tend to make it out the other side. Ainz doesn't view himself as an exception to this which is why he carries himself the way he does, and why he will even praise others like Pandora's Actor if the mere act of kneeling before an opponent gets them to talk.
In essence, to bow is an indication that you'd rather measure strength through words and no one has to get hurt; as opposed to fighting it out and letting the winner take all. Proclaiming "Hit me with your best shot" will always end badly if you underestimate the strength of the one across from you.
People are very used to Shonen Battle anime where the central theme is just "Who is stronger, X or Y?" - Ainz is interesting not because he faces so many battles or hardships. But because he rules an empire from the highest powers to the lowliest peasant. He is remarkably cruel in some decisions, but in others he is lenient and generous. The entire world bends to his power, and its not about who can stop him. Its what he is supposed to do with this power. He considers no person or issue to be beneath him, so he has unique insights into things that the people around him - even beings as smart as Albedo and Demiurgos - fail to see. And that's what makes him interesting. And for the humans, there are good-natured, well meaning people. They see an undead king who isn't just a mere villain, he challenges the very idea of what is good and evil. How do you adapt to someone who killed thousands of humans but actually causes the lands ruled by him to flourish? All these monster races that were killed en masse now coming around to allying under him, and even allying with humans.
Watching the Overlord Anime, you can't exactly feel it, but when you read this part in Volume 11, God, it hits you like a truck. Especially the part, where he gives the command to keep 2000 kids alive and butcher the rest out of all the Quagoa offsprings. It felt like someone just ripped his heart out and then force-fed it back to him.
Not sure why you felt that way. The Quagoa are a murdering POS species that wants to kill all the dwarves simply to steal the metals they mined. They have no redeeming qualities what so ever. I loved the fact that they got slaughtered the way they did. I just think 10000 is way to many. 1000 would have been plenty to experiment on, since that's all they are good for.

I love the scene between Zanac and Ainz because that's exactly the prince's point, but when Ainz tells him that's the fastest, easiest way to assure his people's happiness, he understands and we can see their mutual respect.
Plus this isn't a world where humans are purely victims. Hunting, farming... Most of them are actually okay to do those things on monsters (and I'm not even talking about slaves and discrimination), but are actually horrified when it's done to them. Monsters have families too and want to live. So why blaming them and not the adventurers for exemple ?
That's why I can't wait to watch the Holy Kingdom arc. One of the most interesting characters will be there and should be a prime exemple of this complexity.

This scene is so emotional for me for some reason. Like, its kinda heartbreaking seeing a leader losing so many of his people due to his own mistakes (kinda)

In the novels shalltear used her lance to insta drain the blood each hit, all the corpses fell to the floor without even the smell of blood which made the scene more surreal for the survivors.

They could've showcase how strong they are and quagoa would promptly surrender themselves. Them being like this remind me of the conversation with prince zanac. For how unfathomable being they are, why can't they figure out another way instead of mass killing? Surely, given the knowledge, power, and resources they have, matter will unfold very differently.
This is also a point that remind me that they are, in essence, an evil being who will never truly understand other being. Since they care nothing but themselves. It is an attitude came from seeing other species as useful as cattle.

In the novel, Ainz says that he didn't want all the quagoas and that he would have to reduce their number, so even if they surrendered first, it wouldn't change much, since a very large population would generate more expenses for Nazarick

And, they were given a chance to surrender, but they didn't. So, it came down to this. This kind of tactic has been used even in our history- either surrender or be culled or annihilated. It is to ensure absolute fear and loyalty.
What you must keep in mind is that they would have only surrendered out of fear but they would have tried to rebel especially if they had the numbers. Their fate was their own to decide but at least this way they will learn the price that comes with disobeying Aniz

They are a living farm after all. If they die, they get resurrected, but if they get resurrected then the exp value goes down so in the end leaving a surmountable number is much better than letting too many lives.

Once I ran home from school to watch a new cartoon called "Gigantor". Good thing we didn't have a color tv. Later on I watched the first shot of the "Wave Motion Gun" on American tv. I say without hesitation this is the best show of this century so far.
Am i the only who thought they were the Evil beings in that from the second season? The author wasn't hiding the fact that they were evil and wanted to take over the world in their own way. Ainz wanted to surpass the previous Demon Lord (Otherworlder in a similar situation to his own). Ainz is mixed about the methods but at the end of day he is complacent for the glory of Nazirick. Are the People acting surprised the same people who were shocked that Homelander was the bad guy in Season 3?

The Evil beings were actually the monsters that spawned near a world item to guard it in the New World, how powerful who knows. Maybe some still are guarding unknown world items, the 8 greed kings and 6 gods killed them all probably.
brother this is an evil anime,...its made for people like me who enjoy the villains and absolute domination....its not a hero anime nor it is a power of friendship anime...like it is pretty fking clear

You forget that they were serving the frost dragons still. In the light novel they actually explain the reason that they didn't submit right away was because even if these new people were powerful he doesn't know quite how and the dragons would have killed them all for betrayal. He was standing between a pit of fire and the frozen hell of tartarous. Dude was screwed either way. It's not like they can read the levels above their head or anything. Dude just weighed his options. Complete surrender to an unknown group of two which would anger over a half dozen frost dragons. Or trust that the dragons will assist in dealing with these intruders same as every other time.
pe riyuro wasnt exactly unreasonable they really have no clue how powerfull nazerick is they even said there willing to submit if shown the extent of nazarick power pe riyuro was jsut unlucky he was willing submit way faster then jircniv.

They were pragmatic about it and their confidence matches their abilities so, I would have just comply and find a way to move up and make myself stronger.

True. Ainz might kill thousands with no remorse, but he will only do so if it serves his purposes. He would probably agree to Pe Ryuru's logic and have a duel or something. However, both Shalltear and Aura are not only fanatically loyal to Ainz but regard most beings outside of Nazarick as insects. They don't mind murdering thousands if that is the quickest way to please their master.

Ainz too paranoid and Nazzarick literally too evil to question stupid orders. If there was a problem and it had 2 solutions, 2 very similar but one leads to more death, chaos, misery . . . Well Nazzarick NPCs will choose second because most of them are too evil. Their karma is minus hundred or something.
The thought of other players in the same world as he is. Ainz is always paranoid about showing too much force so others can counter it. in YGGDRASIL, Nazzarick wasn't the top 1 guild, and Ainz sure wasn't the strongest player.
Well to be fair all these beings are so far below Nazarick that the guardians don’t care to do so. I mean if they aren’t smart enough to realize Nazaricks superiority before trying to battle them then they are worth less than the insects they originally thought they were.

Because common sense would’ve told you that people that tiny walking up to 80k soldiers and threatening them, AFTER they used an ability you can understand to warp the world around you should have been the proof needed that they were stronger than you.
Tbf, the frost dragon could probably do the same thing. It is the reason why he have to ask how strong they are.

The best part is Shalltear has a skill that completely nullifies low level melee attacks, so even if she didn’t hit any of them, none of them could’ve even scratched her, not letting them get close was just being mean

When a one person is such a higher level than their attacker, the attacker will do no damage (or miss in many mmos). This is while the person being attacked isn’t using any nullification or resistance buffs
Like in World of Warcraft, once you are 10 levels higher than someone else, they can barely hurt you (1-2 damage) and many of their attacks will miss

Ains is simply the Villain. What he does is all logical. Though some times he's driven into actions he doesn't like, because of his subordinates. But, bottom line, it's the innocent people who just want to live their lives; who suffer the most. Just like they do in any war, fictional or here in the real world.
Dont forget that some places are so corrupt that everything has to be destroyed. Such as the empire.

Ainz is just an airhead who doesn't know what he want and what he want to do. Tell me what is his goal in the story beside going along with the flow of the story.
Ainz' goal is to meet up with his friends again. Failing that, his secondary goal is to keep Nazerick strong and prosperous so that all the "children" of his closest friends can live long and happy lives. His third goal is to learn more about this New World, and what rules from Ygdrassil still carry over compared to what changes have been caused by the interaction between Ygdrassil's systems and the New World's pre-existing magic.
A few more steps down the priority list, he eventually wants to conquer this world, if only to further spread the name of Ainz Ooal Gown and try to create a nice living space for those who serve under him, since his Earth body was stuck working for a black company in a polluted hellscape.
Answering your questions of what ainz goal from the start is a spoiler already but the summary is this - he want's to know other players as someone brainwashed shaltear which can only be done by players but in the end, the players were already dead - he found 1 but she is already dying as well and she is undead as well like ainz. It's like this, when he was transported to the current time he was like a thousand year late. the other players were spawn a head of him and tried to established cities and all. So in the end he was so disappointed but at the same time happy coz no one can harm his army.

This is no different than a player killing 10,000 boars for the next level. At least that is how a PC player would view it when playing a game. The only people who matter are you the people in your party and in this case your custom housing and the people in it. Everything else is fodder.
Even if Ainz was here and saw the slaughter he probably wouldn't care. Perhaps if anything it would be seen as a waste of time and a big mess when it could have been solved with a selection of 2 in the dialog interaction.
This is kind of the point of Overlord. Ainz is mostly just a PC in a game world and how that PC would appear to the peoples of that game world if they were actually living breathing people.
It's extremely different. Ainz knows that he doesn't sit at the PC and just kills NPCs, but living beings. That makes him a psychopath.

People don't even realize that these monsters are what killed so mang dwarves. This show actually shows there is no wrong action when we look at one perspective. Ainz thinks he needs to satisfy his subordinates and thinks about how to make everyone around him happy even if it costs other people's lives.
But then again, most kingdoms in this story is just like that. As long as their own citizen is happy, they don't care what other kingdoms would feel. The only problem is naazarick is similar to them but with too much power.
Even the holy kingdom with its nice and holy image can be very prejudiced and biased.

It's like mowing a lawn, and it's just as exciting.
Since a lot of people intend to disagree with one another's opinion on this show I would just like to share mine as well. I think this show is genuinely great for a certain audience that wants something different than the classical hero's journey format or something similar to that. People tend to say that this is a 'realistic' or 'proper' way to depict a brutal reality of life. Which I do not disagree, although, I believe a proper way to describe this show is that it's simply presents a different perspective of a story we are somewhat familiar to. Despite that some people do not strongly appeal to, It is completely for that to happen.
I for one, don't like the anime personally due to a lack of equal opposition to the protagonists. Which normally results in one sided fight that also tend to result in very brutal conclusions (Torture). For me, It personally just feels like a show of complete dominance and power towards other characters that opposes the protagonists without giving them some sort of chance to fight at the very least that would make it feel more impactful for me personally. Although despite that, Overlord is still a very well made series from it's animation, characters, setting, theme, ect. Which I reccommend trying if you wish for something different.

It's a power fantasy, you don't need to write a thesis to know. It started grounded but by Season 3 it's just a power fantasy without any consequences, it's like being a max level character going back to starter areas.
