  • In this video Stef and I head to Castleton to take part in Peak Running's 35 km Trail Race of the Peak District 70th Birthday Bash. The route took us from Castleton to Hollins Cross, Mam Tor and up and over Lord's Seat. We followed the Pennine Bridleway to Hayfield before climbing up on to Kinder Scout via William Clough. After we passed the downfall a huge hail storm arrived which gave the day a very 'Winter Spine' feel 😁. From Kinder Low we followed the Pennine Way back to Edale and then climbed back over to Castleton... What an amazing day it was, we met lots of really nice people, some familiar faces and new friends were made.

    See you again very soon ? Defo !! Can't wait for your next challenge. This one looked very good,variable terrain and weather (as you'd probably expect). Just a tad disappointed you never got the Hobnobs out.

    Oh my goodness Dean what a great run again! I was on Kinder Scout a couple of days ago, up from Hayfield, and William cough. I did the complete Kinder Scout Plateaux Edge route, two nights out. First near Kinder Downfall and second on top of Ashop Head, walking anticlockwise. I think during that mean hail storm on Saturday you were just leaving Kinder Downfall and I was right on the other side leaving Crookstone Knoll. Sorry I missed you as I'd certainly have shouted an encouragement to you. I had a pint and bowl of chips Sunday midday at the Sportsman Inn. Super-good video again Dean, thanks for vlogging along your route (I still don't know how you manage that and the running!) and the views shown along the way. Cheers, Warren :)

      Hi Warren, thanks for watching and I hope you had a great time doing the Kinder circuit... Sounds like you did. The weather was a bit changeable during this run but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Itching to do another soon but I've got a big walk coming up in a couple of weeks so need to take it easy 😁 Hopefully our paths will cross some day, all the best.

      There's always a bit of hiking in the longer stuff to be fair. I've covered a marathon distance with continuous running before but it wasn't particularly hilly.

    Brilliant video Dean really enjoyed watching it. Funny that you mentioned going up William Clough brought back memories. It did for me watching it. A walk up there about 10 years ago on my own I got talking to a guy about our both very new and very matching La Sportiva B2 boots. We ended up walking the route chatting and then a pint in Hayfield afterwards. Said gentleman (Ste) is now a good friend and from that one encounter through various connections it lead me to mountains, wild camping, trail running summer and winter climbing in the UK and abroad. Paul who ran the charity event we helped out on last week on Kinder is a friend I met through Ste. Well done on the finish something I'll definitely take a look at entering next year.

      Hi Simon thanks for watching and for sharing that story, it's amazing the twists, turns and chance encounters that lead us to certain things. I have met some great people over the years due to walking, one of which is now a great friend and we went to California for 2 weeks for a walk in Yosemite. I saw your friend Fiona at the Hayfield CP during this race, recognised her from your pics and the Harrier marketing. Didn't say hello as I would probably have sounded weird 🤣🤣

    • @DeanRead

      The Skyline Race was harder simply because of the time pressure and the heat on the day. Thanks for watching 👍

    I see you've replaced the Inov8's. What was the shoe of choice? And how did it compare?

    • @DeanRead
      @DeanRead  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching Ashley, I've gone for some Scott Supertrac 3. I wanted something with a bit more cushioning for the longer distance events. Upon reflection though I'm wishing I'd stayed with a more minimalist shoe like my Inov-8s and worked on my technique. The Scotts are taking some time to wear in, they are more cushioned but feel stiffer than the Inov-8s. I've only done around 50km in them so far so we'll see how they go, I'm hoping they are worn in for the TGO challenge walk next month.
