700 HP Top Mount Turbo 370z Overview

  • Sorry no official dyno numbers or revs. Tuner compared my numbers in the software for boost level, octane and timing and all that to other Z’s numbers in the 700 hp range and numbers are very similar. Once the 370z is back up I will make a lot more videos and get it dynod for the people who have a hissy fit that it’s not “officially” 700 on paper. My turbo kit is through Switchback Racing and tuned through Admintuning. I don't believe I missed any mods other than a boost pressure fuel regulator.
    Update: The z has been dynoed and made 636/518. Roughly 700 something crank hp. I have a dyno video now too.

    • @ShayHarambe
      @ShayHarambe  Před 4 lety +5

      MrChips005 I blew it up lol. I talked to admintuning and switchback racing and we believe the recirculated wastegate created to much pressure in the downpipe. Almost like a wall and caused the turbo to boost spike 28 psi. Pretty sure I lifted a head. But swapping the engine and going external wastegate.

    I’m looking to turbo my z also and I’m trying to figure out which kit to get. I’m in-between the boosted performance kit or the soho Motorsports kit. The only problem I am having is I am located in Florida and I don’t know who can install it. I see you’re getting tuned by admin tuning and I was looking to do the same. I’m doing n/a mods for now just like full exhaust intakes oil cooler and tune from admin tuning but I’m not as educated on turbo kits like you are.

    • @ShayHarambe
      @ShayHarambe  Před 4 lety +2

      Gamesta Gamesta switchback racing isn’t in Florida. To me I didn’t like the idea of having a turbo under the car. Plus I’ve read that twin scrolls don’t work as efficiently when the runners are different lengths. Those 2 things persuaded me out of getting the bp kit. Then soho honestly I just never looked at. I didn’t like how you have like a 2inch pipe and it expands to a 2.5 inch in the engine bay. I thought it looked wack. Dumb reason yeah but idk didn’t like it. With the switchback kit it’s 3inch charge piping all around. It’s a single scroll so don’t need equal length runners as well. It took me personally 6 months to decide which one I was gonna do. Do your research and carefully decide cause it ain’t cheap for sure.

      @ShayHarambe  Před 3 lety

      From my knowledge superchargers have come a long way and are amazing. Especially with the air to air kit. They make turbo numbers. If I had to do it again I would have supercharged it. Much easier install. Cheaper. Reliability im not for sure.

    I am debating whether I should stay N/A, go supercharged or turbo. My main concern is reliability. I'm hard on my Z but I don't do stupid things such as burnouts or rev limiter attack. I do not want to get into race gas or E85 either. I like to have a reliable car that I can go through gears at max rpm. I like my car but it takes too much time to go through gears and it takes forever to accelerate in the higher rpms in 5th gear. Would you say a reasonably boosted stock block VQ37VHR is reliable or not that much?

    The Aero Dynamics are so advanced. It really doesn't even have to be a NISMO version because of the shape of the car. • @ShayHarambe
      @ShayHarambe  Před 4 lety +2

      Uhh well there is a proper way and a other way. Proper take the dash out. That’s too much work for me. So what I did was took the hoods off then basically picked at the stock gauges with some need nose pliers till I got all the gauge material out. Ran the wires from the engine bay ecu wire harness spot behind the battery up into the stock gauge location. Then I took the stock gauge plastic and filed them down to fit the new gauges and wrapped them with a zip tie to hold it. Then took a long metal strip and cut it into 3 pieces and drilled a hole in it. Put a one of those metal pieces on it you can thread a screw into. I forget what they are called then drilled a hole through the stock plastic bracket and created a tightening set up. So put the metal piece in the hole in the dash where the gauge was put the screw through the stock bracket then screwed it into the metal bracket and got it tight so the gauge wouldn’t move. Then put some double sided tape on the hood and put it on. It was a long process but it worked and looks good :)

      @@Matt-lf1ik a few reasons. I live in florida and it rains all the time. So location of the turbo kit just scared me. Im sure it would be fine. No one ive seen has ever reported a problem of it but peace of mind. Next I watched a lot of freshkiicks he had the bp kit and he start getting limited on boost cause of pipe size. With that turbo kit piping gets limited to two inches to fit everywhere. The switchback kit is all 3 inch charge pipes. Also downpipe its 3.5 inch where bp kit is 3 inch. Visually obviously the switchback kit is a hands down winner. Plus switchback was doing free install and labor. Also piping material. Bp used stainless steel for all charge pipes where switchback used aluminum. Now you may thing corrosion purposes stainless is better which it is. But for heat purposes aluminum dissipates heat better plus I had mine powder coated to protect the pipes. Then back to turbo location I didnt like how it was either a oil less turbo where you grease it which I heard is amazing but its kinda hard to do or get a oil pump and that seems like a hassle where as switchback kit tbe turbo up top and doing need a extra pump. Thats all I can think of at the moment.
