oh i see - aiming for the white which is the light on the target - thats why there is a low light we see on tables these days Some really good interesting tips here... and you pot so well too and aim for the 5th move ahead.. Well done and keep them coming, your advise is valuable to ameture to professional
so today ive cleared the colours 3x and made a 30 in the line up today through listening to your guides and watching your videos - been playing for 3 months with 2 of those with a closed club becasue of covid.. alot to take in and try and put into practice, but through small steps your videos are improving my game. thanks
its funny the ghost ball guide never worked for me however i like the paper boat as that actually forces you to hit centre ball and removes the distraction of the tip location on the CB which many players worry too much about. However i am convinced after reaching match century break level that i believe that many shots are actually harder to pot using dead centre. Its a bit like finding north on a compass when you move the needle moves too. So i just go with instinct and probably play with a trace of side especially on 3/4 and 1/4 cuts. Its also a lot do with your dominant eye and line of aim. We all seem to do it differently. Judd trumps chin is not even central on the cue due to a very dominant eye. He plays with a lot of side like Ronnie does. Ive seen Ronnie regularly play with side and even drag on safety shots too hits them a bit harder to compensate but this allows him more control and able to create more angles beyond the natural lines causing more problems for opponents. When was the last time you saw Ronnie play a bad safety or fail to make the CB back past the baulk line? Its all about setting yourself a set of versatile rules in your own mind so you can find your most ideal calibration point. For example one might be - say i am trying to stun the blue in the go down for a red into the same middle pocket but i keep under hitting it. So to recalibrate id play to get the CB onto the baulk line - in doing so i end up perfect on the red and probably 3-10 shots id overhit. So the general calibration approach is one id endorse here

Thanks for your videos, your videos are helpful. For long straight pots, I noticed when we imagine the size of the object ball onto our white cue ball, it helps with aiming onto the center of the cue ball.

R Robles I first walk into the Palace Billards (SF) in '55. Every table had only one light (60W) with a green shade hanging directly over, centered, and 36" above the cloth. Only the green of the cloth was lite, everything around the table was in darknest. I can tell by the object ball that you have three main lights and fluorescent lighting. Wrap your head around this: what if there were only one light above your table and only one small reflection on the object ball wherever the ball was placed on the table? Your technique (alignment system) is probably about 100 years old. When I was a kid, everyone used the light system.
The aiming system does work in itself but the thing players need to remember is it wont work for those who don’t normally make centuries alone. Its also important for a player to visualise the shot prior to potting and also walk in on the line of the shot - you cant just get down then find the line as you will be offline They also need to be able to plan 3-4 shots ahead, have excellent shot selection ahead and have the timing and cue action to achieve consistent CB control... i think its important that this is made clear in your videos.
that's very true, I see that many players(amateurs) switch the angle of their cue being already down for the shot. You better get prepared before and only focus on straight cueing.
Watching your demonstrations....You still have not discovered the Da Vinci Code...however have experienced it by memory behaviours. To find The Da Vinci Code you need to change how you look at the balls in a completely different perspective...once you find and can explain the exact science it is easy peasy..the other challenges are aligned consistent strokes, tip+chalking, emotional distractions and inspirations..in.which I find myself lacking...🙊 to be a good snooker player all these traits are essential...😱👋👍
Went to the pool hall yesterday and used their only snooker table. I started out just hitting the cue ball in straight into pockets to get a system down. Now that I can shoot the cue where I want, following up with a ball was difficult. Definitely going to use this CAM system. Next time.

Mmm It sounds easy and I will try it. Its just hard to visualise the ghost ball! But it might work better than another vid i saw where the guy was asking us to find the point of angle on the OBJECT ball.
Straight cueing required. Straight cueing is hard. I've been playing my whole life and make the odd century break and cueing straight is the hardest thing to do. It's mostly a game of straight lines after all
ill have to disagree i cue through the ball everytime and in solos straight line practice i can clear up all the time but i used to miss half ball cuts quite a lot when i was on my 8 or 9 th color. Every person is different
Probably been asked this before but Where do you keep your table? Helpful videos by the way. I was talking to anthony mcgill the other day on here and he seems to use a similar method....so it obviously works.
You just found the CTE system. center to edge. alignment is called 'perception' ; actually a little TOI reduces CIT . hence importancs of following through stroke to keep the rock sliding/spinning reducing cloth grip.

SBV alignes the left edge LTE or the Left side of shaft to edge of object ball , and RTE for right cuts. remember its a sphere so contact point is actually not center of cue for ANY shot not dead strait. you will find yourself aiming almost 2 tips outside for tough cuts. for this i still aim CTE or ETE then backhand Pivot 1 or 2 tips. some just memorize what the gap looks like
Totally agree with this method. People should stop looking to for an exact tiny aim point on the object ball and visualise how the white should cover the object ball to make the potting angle. Question. What do you think of commentators saying how well the shot was cued? Sometimes it is clear to see a sweetly struck shot but mostly I disagree and think the player simply found the correct potting angle. It’s the same as when they say how the player cued across it. Nope, they selected the wrong potting angle. I am talking about accomplished players here. What do you think?
This tutorial helped a lot on my aiming on the table. Just a little question on potting those thinner shots (i.e. less than 1/2 ball): where would our eyesight be focusing on? I found it quite difficult to project the edge of the white on the red as I would always hit the center of the white to the projected curve edge instead. Should our eyes keep focusing on straight rather than squinting on the edges, or otherwise?
You only really need to focus on one point the edge will hit. The ( is just to show on the video where the shape of the ball will go. It’s not easy to get used to though

Do you have to aim in the middle of the object ball for all shots, or the top of the object ball for top spin, and the bottom of the object ball for screw?
What I’m trying to say with this, is keep playing straight shots until you are playing the cue ball exactly where you are aiming. If you can see where the cue ball is going it makes the game predictable and easy to understand
Not sure if you answer these messages... but i find it very difficult to imagine an imaginary ball in front of the object ball... is there another way to aim?

Nice video. sure you hear this all the time but think you'll ever recloth that table?? How long have you been playing on it - never seen those lines from the back ball to the bottom pockets
Too many amateur players stand both too close to the table with their bridge hand too close to the cue ball and are also too upright over the shot when aiming and playing it. When any or all of those apply, you are not really looking down the line of the shot and it's a bit like firing a rifle with it held about waist height, rather than at shoulder height and looking down the barrel to use the sighting aid. If you stand a little bit further back from the table and lean into the shot where you are actually having to stretch out in front of yourself, with your head low and looking down the line of the shot ahead of you, you will see things far better. It will actually take a bit of getting used to also, considering you might never have been set up that way before.
You don´t indicate that you are aware of the influence upon aim of _Cut-Induced-Throw_ and _Spin-Induced-Throw_ -- but these are advanced considerations. Also, for the beginning-intermediate player, the one who theoretically knows _where_ to be hitting the OB, it is worth a discussion of the matter of being aware of the benefit of over- vs. under-shooting the ball (usually because of the path angle and geometry of the pocket involved). Just doing this is enough to turn failure into success -- _half_ of the time....
Great video, thanks for the help. ive practiced 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 ball shots a lot now and can start to estimate shots on the table relative to this. I've also been using the perceived point of contact from the line of white to the object ball. As i can sort of imagine a ghost white ball but I cant imagine where the middle of it would be. So for example if it looks like a 7/8th, knowing it needs about a 1/3 more its about a half ball shot. I've seen great improvement from this but should i try a different way?

I've never understood this.... Full ball, 3/4 ball 1/2 ball 1/4 ball and 1/8 ball etc???? What about every 0.0001 mm in-between those angles? I miss every pot that I don't hit to within 0.0001 mm accuracy. It'd be great if I could just hit the nearest 1/4 ball and watch the pot fly in!
there is an easy way to learn how to see the potting point of every ball..every ball be it snooker pool or billiards all have the same thing in common..no matter where an object ball lies on a table they all sit on the exact same potting position..so no matter where the white ball lies...the potting point is the same for all shots..the answer to this is in the above description..those who understand this technique will have their potting skill double overnight..imagine being able to sight each shot in the same way..imagine being able to see the potting point as large as a piece of chalk..that would be easy to aim at...right..good potting
I have got a very good original condition EJ Riley the prize cue one piece and it has got the original stamps and the tombstone plaque!, if anyone is interested please let me know. One major issue whenever I play. I always hit center of the white I even tried to double check on the bualk line. However my white always plays with a trace of left hand sides and I tend and I mean 80% of my shot "I miss it thin" I Dk what this means lol. Put it short I always over cut shots
Don’t be too concerned if you put in tiny amounts of side on the ball. Overcutting everything when you probably know quite lining up the shots right. With practice this will get better over time
no matter what i do i cant pot into the centre pocket .its got to the stage where i will refuse the middle pocket shots and take another pot instead or play a safety rather than the pot
hello i need more help with aiming i have trouble getting angles right all the time straight shots i am able to micro adjust while down on the table in middle pocket but find getting angles right all the time hard. I have a uk pool table converted to accept american and snooker balls. Hey, I was wondering how this differs from ghost ball aiming method, as that is what I currently use. I don't know why, but usually I need an hour to warm up, and my game gets gradually better as I play more. (I usually play 2-3 hours). Thanks!
I think everyone plays better after playing for a short time. Some just are better players to start off with so it doesn’t notice as much. The main difference with this is to allow you to confidently play the shot to where you are aiming.
It doesn't. Its the same type if method just difffernt langauge At the same wxample there is a technique some used for banking back in the mid 90's(aiming for the reflection seen or the light reflection off the object ball).
Cecil Mumps Balls will do that,unless you are gay. You need to focus more on the pockets,and imagine the tip of your cue touching the entrance. Good morning. Sir, i need your review on my technique. Bridge at 10.5 inchs and grip at 51 inches. (1) GRIP : Hold cue in finger pads to be squeezed while playing the shot( steve davis youtube). (2) Right TOE pointing at the aim line. Note : Both feet angeling on line and body perpendicular to the shot. (3) Bring STICK down on the Aim line. BEND half first take aim and then fully. (4)put CHIN by keeping eye on line of aim. (5) HEAD straight. (6) CUE normal length untill with the pace needed is memorised. Note : Have some rythm. Pace : Slow - Small and slow cuing. Normal - Normal and smooth. Fast - Jerky and fast cuing. Super power shot : Cue for a power rythm. (7) BACKSWING slightly firmly(for steadiness), Aiming. (8) Confidentely accelerating smoothly(smoothness should not be visible enough), hit the CHEST with the pace of cuing. AIM : Aim directly by the tip to the point on the object ball by visualizing the place where the contact actually is gono happen. SIDE : After aiming move your bridge hand. REST : Arm about parellel. Less cuing n back swing. TS CH G CBC SWERVE : bridge on longest two finger, aim a point on the table for the spin accordinly set for the the line of the shot. Many thanks.
You seem to be putting far too much thought into this. Knowing exact measurements are not helpful whatsoever if you ever find yourself in a situation where you cannot use these numbers. It should all feel natural. For instance, I have a 51 inch long cue. My grip could vary between 51 inches (pinkie finger hanging off the edge) and, say 38 inches. It makes no difference. I vary my bridge from shot to shot. It makes no difference. All that matters is that the cueing is straight and smooth.
Not really cause the ghost ball theory doesn't tell you which part if the object ball to aim for with the cue. Only helps for shots less then half ball and even that is not accurate cause you have to aim thinner when playing plain ball.
This is because my camera only cost £25 the sound is terrible. Sometimes it gets the sound at the right time and sometimes it is horrible out. This is why I don't speak live on camera
What I think was meant was that in the two earlier examples they were straight pots and half ball pots but if you then have a three-quarter ball pot, you can't be making contact with the object ball in the same place as with either the full ball contact on the object ball on a straight shot, or a half ball contact point on the object ball on a half ball pot. In other words, the implication was most players know what's required and how to play full ball contact and half ball contact pots, yet if you played either of those type of shots when any other type of contact point was needed (quarter ball, three quarter ball and so on) then you would miss the pot. That's fairly obvious anyway but in fairness to the uploader, he does allude to that and also won't know the playing level of everyone watching and so is starting with the basics to cater for all.

Break from life I kinda lucked out. They have chinese STAR table that's in an okay but used condition. I think could use a new fabric though.

Put in a nutshell if you hit the part of the object ball that is furthest away from the pocket you will pot it.

I'd find a lot of benefit from some way of being able to wear glasses whilst playing, any suggestions?
Lots of opticians have glasses especially for this purpose. They really aren’t cheap though
Unfortunately i was aware. £600 for a game i play with a £30 cue.... probably not for me
I sent my distance prescription to spex4less. Their specialist snooker glasses were about £80. Excellent .

A lot of the time players cue across the ball. They are trying to correct a shot they have lined up wrong

SBV alignes the left edge LTE or the Left side of shaft to edge of object ball , and RTE for right cuts. remember its a sphere so contact point is actually not center of cue for ANY shot not dead strait. you will find yourself aiming almost 2 tips outside for tough cuts. for this i still aim CTE or ETE then backhand Pivot 1 or 2 tips. some just memorize what the gap looks like.
Do you have to aim in the middle of the object ball for all shots, or the top of the object ball for top spin, and the bottom of the object ball for screw?

What I’m trying to say with this, is keep playing straight shots until you are playing the cue ball exactly where you are aiming. If you can see where the cue ball is going it makes the game predictable and easy to understand

Try looking at the point on the cloth where the ghost/imaginary ball needs to be instead because then you're focusing on something real.
So your saying, if I can consistently make strait in shots, I don't have any hope of consistently making angle shots.

Too many amateur players stand both too close to the table with their bridge hand too close to the cue ball and are also too upright over the shot when aiming and playing it. When any or all of those apply, you are not really looking down the line of the shot and it's a bit like firing a rifle with it held about waist height, rather than at shoulder height and looking down the barrel to use the sighting aid.
If you stand a little bit further back from the table and lean into the shot where you are actually having to stretch out in front of yourself, with your head low and looking down the line of the shot ahead of you, you will see things far better. It will actually take a bit of getting used to also, considering you might never have been set up that way before.
You don´t indicate that you are aware of the influence upon aim of _Cut-Induced-Throw_ and _Spin-Induced-Throw_ -- but these are advanced considerations.
Also, for the beginning-intermediate player, the one who theoretically knows _where_ to be hitting the OB, it is worth a discussion of the matter of being aware of the benefit of over- vs. under-shooting the ball (usually because of the path angle and geometry of the pocket involved). Just doing this is enough to turn failure into success -- _half_ of the time....

Great video, thanks for the help. ive practiced 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 ball shots a lot now and can start to estimate shots on the table relative to this. I've also been using the perceived point of contact from the line of white to the object ball. As i can sort of imagine a ghost white ball but I cant imagine where the middle of it would be. So for example if it looks like a 7/8th, knowing it needs about a 1/3 more its about a half ball shot. I've seen great improvement from this but should i try a different way?

I've never understood this.... Full ball, 3/4 ball 1/2 ball 1/4 ball and 1/8 ball etc???? What about every 0.0001 mm in-between those angles? I miss every pot that I don't hit to within 0.0001 mm accuracy. It'd be great if I could just hit the nearest 1/4 ball and watch the pot fly in!

there is an easy way to learn how to see the potting point of every ball..every ball be it snooker pool or billiards all have the same thing in common..no matter where an object ball lies on a table they all sit on the exact same potting position..so no matter where the white ball lies...the potting point is the same for all shots..the answer to this is in the above description..those who understand this technique will have their potting skill double overnight..imagine being able to sight each shot in the same way..imagine being able to see the potting point as large as a piece of chalk..that would be easy to aim at...right..good potting

One major issue whenever I play. I always hit center of the white I even tried to double check on the bualk line. However my white always plays with a trace of left hand sides and I tend and I mean 80% of my shot "I miss it thin" I Dk what this means lol. Put it short I always over cut shots
Don’t be too concerned if you put in tiny amounts of side on the ball. Overcutting everything when you probably know quite lining up the shots right. With practice this will get better over time

no matter what i do i cant pot into the centre pocket .its got to the stage where i will refuse the middle pocket shots and take another pot instead or play a safety rather than the pot

hello i need more help with aiming i have trouble getting angles right all the time straight shots i am able to micro adjust while down on the table in middle pocket but find getting angles right all the time hard. I have a uk pool table converted to accept american and snooker balls. Just a footnote: Why doesn't anyone ever mention the diamond system? Those inlaid diamonds on every pool table in years gone by had a purpose.
Why not just put some tape over the tip of your cue? If you don't hit the center you will miscue that way

I do this, but my approach is to hit the cue ball to the center of the imaginary cue ball.

I think everyone plays better after playing for a short time. Some just are better players to start off with so it doesn’t notice as much. The main difference with this is to allow you to confidently play the shot to where you are aiming.

Bridge at 10.5 inchs and grip at 51 inches.
(1) GRIP : Hold cue in finger pads to be squeezed while playing the shot( steve davis youtube).
(2) Right TOE pointing at the aim line.
Note : Both feet angeling on line and body perpendicular to the shot.
(3) Bring STICK down on the Aim line.
BEND half first take aim and then fully.
(4)put CHIN by keeping eye on line of aim.
(5) HEAD straight.
(6) CUE normal length untill with the pace needed is memorised.
Note : Have some rythm.
Pace : Slow - Small and slow cuing.
Normal - Normal and smooth.
Fast - Jerky and fast cuing.
Super power shot : Cue for a power rythm.
(7) BACKSWING slightly firmly(for steadiness), Aiming.
(8) Confidentely accelerating smoothly(smoothness should not be visible enough), hit the CHEST with the pace of cuing.
AIM : Aim directly by the tip to the point on the object ball by visualizing the place where the contact actually is gono happen.
SIDE : After aiming move your bridge hand.
REST : Arm about parellel. Less cuing n back swing. TS CH G CBC
SWERVE : bridge on longest two finger, aim a point on the table for the spin accordinly set for the the line of the shot.

You seem to be putting far too much thought into this. Knowing exact measurements are not helpful whatsoever if you ever find yourself in a situation where you cannot use these numbers. It should all feel natural. For instance, I have a 51 inch long cue. My grip could vary between 51 inches (pinkie finger hanging off the edge) and, say 38 inches. It makes no difference. I vary my bridge from shot to shot. It makes no difference. All that matters is that the cueing is straight and smooth.

Not really cause the ghost ball theory doesn't tell you which part if the object ball to aim for with the cue. Only helps for shots less then half ball and even that is not accurate cause you have to aim thinner when playing plain ball.
Anybody else hearing a delay between the visuals and sound? The sound seems to be about a second behind the video.
This is because my camera only cost £25 the sound is terrible. Sometimes it gets the sound at the right time and sometimes it is horrible out. This is why I don't speak live on camera

What I think was meant was that in the two earlier examples they were straight pots and half ball pots but if you then have a three-quarter ball pot, you can't be making contact with the object ball in the same place as with either the full ball contact on the object ball on a straight shot, or a half ball contact point on the object ball on a half ball pot.
In other words, the implication was most players know what's required and how to play full ball contact and half ball contact pots, yet if you played either of those type of shots when any other type of contact point was needed (quarter ball, three quarter ball and so on) then you would miss the pot.
That's fairly obvious anyway but in fairness to the uploader, he does allude to that and also won't know the playing level of everyone watching and so is starting with the basics to cater for all.
