Jewish-American activist Simon Zimmerman tells @el.sayyed there’s a generational shift in how young Americans see Israel, including young Jews, because what’s happening in Gaza is undeniable. She says while many young Jews see this reality unfiltered, many in older generations are still sheltered from it.
Zimmerman’s personal story from a pro-Israeli student to a pro-Palestinian organiser was documented in the acclaimed new film ‘Israelism’.

For better or for worse, your generation is definitely creating history.
It's on par with the fall of the Soviet Union, the fall of the Berlin wall, the Civil Rights Movement, and so on. This movement has created a tectonic shift in American politics.
Unconditional and unquestioned Israeli support was the number 1 rule of America politics for decades. Not a thousand atomic bombs could have changed that.

The irony of this woman’s viewpoint is there were far more Jews in America that didn’t stand behind Israel before Hamas attacked than today. The tragedy of this war is on both sides, as all wars are, but there are far more Jews in America who now stand steadfastly with Israel than before this disaster started. This was a disaster for Hamas in every respect.
