- Is eating saturated fat bad for us? Does eating fat cause obesity? Heart disease? Stroke? How did we become so fat phobic? Are vegetable oils healthy? A critical look at the wealth of scientific data suggests that eating fat (total) and saturated fat might actually protect us from disease. Check out my blog at / drjasonfung

I´m an argentinian phisician dedicated to internal medicine and pain management. I've started to give my patients dietary advice following the principles of low carb and fasting diet. The results are amazing despite I think I'm not an expert in nutrition. Patients don't need insuline or have reduced their antihypertensive drugs and dramatically lose weight. Your lectures are excellent. Thank you for your generosity bringing this outstanding material for free. If I have questions in the future I will be honoured if you let me write to you. Me and my patients will be greatfull.
Que bueno que tus pacientes se mejoran.
thank God that you are smart enough to change your mind and help your patients. Very few doctors are smart enough, or actually care enough about their patients to actually help them.
@Raymond Max He's from Argentina. English is likely not his first language. I occasionally merge the spellings of similar words as I speak and write between two languages. His patients are fortunate.
Thank you, Dr. Pastor, for educating yourself (as many doctors do not). You are a godsend to your patients!
Raymond Max *you’re
Dr Fung, I’m an Ophthalmologist, I just want to say thank you for your six amazing lectures, all must be part of the training of the internal medicine, family Doctors, and the Doctors who are related to take care of the Diabetic patients, God Bless you.
Been following your channel for 10 months. I'm 59, weighed 220 for the last 30 years, started eating once a day and watching my carbs and sugars, and am now 173 HAPPY pounds. Thank you for the education, and my new lifestyle.
mel needs so did that take you 10 months to do?
I really hope you are awarded the Noble Prize…you’ve changed humanity BIG TIME for the good 😘
I love it when sober argumentation , common sense and logic overtakes ideologies , monetary interests and ego of "professionals " That constitutes a healthy foundation for progress and truth .
In addition to these fantastic uploads I have been listening to Dr Fung’s book, The Obesity Code, on Audible. I highly recommend it and concur 100%.
I was a Nutrition major, worked in clinical nutrition, the politics of big food agri business industry and flawed so-called science have led us astray.
Dr Fung is a ray of sunshine, thankful for him daring to step outside the box of conformity and inform and educate the public.
I have now watched the whole 6 part series and many interviews of you, Dr. Fung. You are a natural teacher (and very impressive healer). Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us.
And yet there are those that will reject all the data
And insist lchf is just a fad, and is bad for you because, well just because. Though its usually about " the planet" I think
@@zodglubby yeah, and they think binge drinking, binge eating pizza, ice cream, candy, thanksgiving dinner etc is perfectly fine. People believe what they want I guess; probably why people are so easy to scam.
Where are Parts 1 thru 5?
Never mind. I found them.
I have watched the Etiology series at least 4 times and I am watching No. 6-6 again. My Dr is extremely happy with me because I have lost so much weight (I was morbidlly obese 39.5 BMI) and my sugars are absolutely normal. I told him that I have been watching what I ate. And I have. In accordance with what I learned from the Etiology seires...And now I am still overweight, but I am steadily losing weight and feeling better and I am looking forward to reaching a BMI in the low 20's.....about 175 lbs for me...
Thank you Dr. Fung.
How you do8ng?
I am also seeing great results. Love positive outcomes. Hope you reached your goals.
Damn. He was so ahead of the curve.
watching and listening to these keeps me motivated. the more I watch the more it sinks in.

Well I've taken the time to watch this whole series and you've not only proven to me i've been lied to by the USDA/FDA/USA. You've saved my life and I'm now an IF disciple at 50 yrs old I'm approaching a pre-diabetic state NOT ANYMORE. I now know there is a simple and better way to cure myself. Thanks to Jason Fung. God Bless you sir
I have watched the whole 6 teachings and am greatly amazed at the deptof the deception from our trusted medical associations.
God will richly bless you doctor.
I will start spreading the news and your teachings.
If I have a handbook on this, from which to follow,I will do the teaching everywhere I go, free. For I have received freely.
I have watched all six videos. Thank you Dr. Fung. I wish you are my doctor. I am just blown away by info provided here. It is so shocking to discover that we have been misguided for long. Being a borderline diabetes, i have lost 10 pounds so far, but low-fat diet does not help with my biomarkers, none of which have improved. I am also struggling to lose more pounds. I am going to start low-carb diet and see what happens. Thanks so much.
Daisy Chance me too! Yehey!
Hey Daisy
Do you have an update, two years later?
Daisy, how did you get on with your low carb and high fat diet? Was it the one to change your life?
I am just starting it, been watching the 6 videos, bit late to the party but better late than never
Dr. Fung - Thank you for your excellent lectures. I forwarded your information to Orrin Hatch of US Senate, who is in charge of defining new health plan (Trump Care?). I also sent information about your approach to the White House with request that they investigate your medical approach to reduce cost of the health care in the United States. Low Carbs and fasting should become standard medical approach to care for diabetes. Based on the information I found on youtube I reversed diabetes and lost 30 pounds. I was under medical care for for diabetes 8 years. Now my A1C is 5.3. Thank you again.
Also thank you youtube for providing access to those excellent videos. If not for the youtube I would never heard about dr. Fung and his method of treating obesity and diabetes.
In politics, we say "follow the money". With regard to health, follow the hormones.
Your comment is older but just as true and more relevent than ever especially now learning how expensive insulin is.
I want Dr. Fung to be my doctor 😁
Grateful to your commitment with your patients and the community in general. Diabetes’s has been in my family for a while. I started gaining weight with a vegetarian diet and thinking I was eating healthy. My sister diabetic condition is getting worst and she’s frustrated. I am translating this information to her and now we have hope she could change her prognosis. These videos are so comprehensive, covering all the areas important. Thank you 🙏🏼
wow, so we have been depriving ourselves of delicious God-given foods all these years for nothing??
i guess! results?
Uuuuuuuuhhhhhhh YEP!
It was all because of marketing Crisco, Mazola, etc. Natural is best: lard, tallow, butter, etc.

Not for nothing. For obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease & shorter life.
congratulations! you are so intelligent and still, you have the ability to communicate so effectively. thanks!
Dr.Fung, you really making significant contributions to humanity. Thank you! I watched eve you posted.
I cannot thank you enough Dr. Fung for bringing these lectures to us. I've learned so much from watching them. Thank you for helping me. God bless you
Thank you so much Dr. Jason Fung. You deserve many many thanks for undoing the terrible mistakes that others have done for the humanity.May God bless you and your family and your work.
Amazing lectures on health.
The truth has been spoken and it needs to be shared. Thank you!
Great presentation! !!! Taking questions at the end is a very good move, allows you to stay on track. I am amazed at how many people really don't know what processed food is. Thank you for all you efforts to educate both the public and professionals! !!
Excellent series! Dr. Fung explains everything so clearly so that everyone is able to comprehend this vital information. After you watch this lecture series, I highly recommend lectures by Dr, Chris Knobbe, Dr. Paul Mason, and presentations by Nina Teicholtz, Sally Norton, and others. Eat real food -- the food that was meant to nourish humans.
After watching just this one video, how can anyone have any faith in the medical profession?
The medical profession are bound by prescribing guidelines. They may not agree with them privately but if a patient complains, there is little benefit for the doctor, it's easier for them to go ahead an prescribe statins, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, betablockers, PPI and the usual plethora of drugs for metabolic syndrome.
Doctors are the street dealers for the big pharma drug traffickers.
Surgeons different, in the main - if surgery actually needed.
That is quite unfair. There are many doctors in my family and many are really invested in healing their patients.
It is the medical INDUSTRY that seems to be biased.
Good point Nuts.
Point taken and I agree with you, of course. I was taking the piss a bit with the analogy. It was satire.
Satire is even funnier when someone doesn't get that it's satire. :O

I have just finished all 6+ hours of this and found it mostly informative and helps arm me for when i have discussions with all the health workers in my family and the ole school educated. I found some major repetitiveness on some subjects and could be clean up to less than 3 hours I’m sure. also a clear view of charts and the use of Dr Fung’s pointer would have been wonderful. But as I have just began my fasting regime and after my first fast of 72hrs with a 1 day feast i am now on a 5 day fast. My feast day do how ever are being regimented along the OMAD idea which I think may be a great idea but will monitor my self to be sure. But I must say I am very happy with the info and the excitement from Dr Jason Fung and hope I can loose 30kg now, which is 10kgs more than I initially planning on, to prepare myself for the knee surgery I am facing in the next 7 months. Nearly 6 years now so hoping for an update soon on all this data. Thanks!
Hi Michael - can you contact me on the website in the description above. I am happy to answer you fully, but comments here are limited.
Thank you for sharing so much knowledge and being concerned about people's health.
Excellent series of lectures - content and delivery - I keep coming back again and again, as there is a lot to take in in one go. Thank you for your great generosity.
You are a great doctor who leading us to GREAT days...love
Dr.Jason Fung back home, middle east, people in the 80s & 90s started realizing that the grandparents used to have all natural fats and were much stronger. Also whole grain was called traditionally ( nails of knees) meaning bases of knees(not refined). Though we all ignored and made sure to follow (Science)..Thank you for all your work!
The corn oil explanation did it for me. There really is nothing natural about corn oil particularly the way it's prepared and when you think about it what is the point anyway trying to get oil from something that is not naturally oil anyway. All Just to support some daft theory that these unhealthy oils are healthy. Thanks Dr Fung
On industrial seed oils - cleverly marketed as 'vegetable' - Even the citric acid used in processing (deodorizing, necessary to disguise the rancid odor of these oils) is synthesized from corn; it does not come from citrus fruit.
These oils were originally used for industrial purposes, not food. They might be fine fueling a diesel engine. After all, the inventor used peanut oil.
Thank you so much DR. Find! Thank you for giving us true information!
Thank you very much @docteur Jason Fung
If he had said cheese is healthy in the first video, I would have adopted the diet right there.
Thank you for an absolutely stellar series.
Excellent narration!!! I think you should seriously write a book with all the clinical trial references that you based your talk series on. Superb unifying disease model to explain the diseases of modern civilization.
zumanjee book is ready! The Obesity Code!
Great book... and I've just ordered his book on Fasting...
One of the funniest things Ive ever seen on TV was when a BBC program did a chlolesterol comparison of a skimmed milk, museli munching,salad-slurping ,pilates-pushin, wife with her big greasy english breakfast, saturated fat , pizza , curry consuming lorry driving husband. On the day of the live 'Big Reaveal ' the presenter opened the envelope with results only to find the husband had a level of about 4.5 and his wife had a level of 6 !! The presenter looked like he'd just been punched in the face!!!
Cholesterol levels are near meaningless anyways such a scam.
I finished watching all your 6 series.. thank you for your dedications.
Fantastic series..I have always been a statistical person..love the numbers..THANK YOU..
Thank you! Thank you!
Explanation was so clear and appreciated. Have been listening to your YTube videos for a while have learned so much. Now doing intermittent fasting to lower blood sugar and back to enjoying beef, butter, avocados etc. without guilt.
Don’t forget about eggs! So good for you.
For those complaining about doctors please realize they are also being duped. I had 1 doctor who was so shocked that my cholesterol and numbers were so good despite being a diabetic. I told her it was because I ate real butter instead of margarine. After a while she realized it was true. My latest doctor told me the latest suggestions were for all diabetics to on statins and BP meds not matter whether they had problems or not. So I told her I planned on reversing my diabetes so she didn't prescribe the recommended meds. Now I'm off all my diabetes medication and my numbers are now normal. Doctors prescribe what most patients want.
Dr Fung, I have recently discovered your videos and I'm totally blown away with the amount of information and value you are delivering. Thank you ever so much, I did a 12 day total fast and so far I've lost 14 kg already and I felt so great. Something I have not felt in 20 years the feeling of winning. My goal is to go to 58 kg, so I can go out and buy myself a brand new suit. Ha Ha. Anyway the doctors here has diagnosed me with esophageal cancer and a few others malignant spots in the liver. My question here is, would you consider making a video on suggesting a strategy to do whatever I can to heal myself? I understand that I must lower my weight even further, stay away from all sugars and wheat products. Eat a truck load of green crucifious vegetables to keep the body alkaline. Anyway, I'm sure you know what I mean. Thank you again. My Best regards
If you are still alive, could you comment on how it is going for you? I have my own theory that extended water fasting can cure cancer, but I obviously have no way of testing it since I don't have cancer. Did you try that? what happened?
Than you,Brilliant One,God blessed you always,I am a dietitian and your VDOs are very helpful to me .
I eat relatively alot of animal fats (saturated fats) and my vldl (the bad cholesterol in the arteries) is superlow. So yeah I agree with Dr Jason Fung statements in this video. My own experience underscribes it.
Nice series of lectures.
Super helpful! Keep it up!
Thank you so much for taking the time to conduct these lectures and for your willingness to share them. This has been so informative and encouraging. Can you say whether or not freezing vegetables and fruits destroys the beneficial fibers? I rely a lot on frozen foods in order to reduce spoilage. Thanks so much. I know this is an old video and you may not answer my question. I just thought I’d give it a shot :0) Have a great day!
Dr. Fung, are your slides available for download anywhere? Reviewing the charts and source studies would be useful for me.
Great man Dr. Fung !!!!!!
Thank you, Dr. Fung
Leave a tub of margarine out near an ant hill and they won't eat it.
Are ants smarter than humans?
It's the stethoscope that swings it. Must get one!
Thank you a million.
yes and thank you.
HI Dr. I am one of your fans and I think your a legend and an honest person.I am the opposite of obesity, I am slim, 48 years old, 168 cm tall and 58 kg weight. My legs are very very slim. My aim is to build my mussels and have a better look of my legs. I need your advise.
great description of making vegetable oil...... I will never use vegetable oil again after that
thanks Dr Jason 🙋🏻♀️... still so young in this video 😁 👍👍
The greatest doctor ever
Thanks you are a hero.
excellent
Great explanation by smart scientist
Thank you such Jason you help us a lot May Jehova h bless you more for helping lots o people Ike me to fully understand that saturated fat is not causing obesity and heart disease
fascinating!
Thanks only instead of lard and other animal fats, I'll get my saturated fats from virgin palm oil and virgin coconut oil as well as avocados, nuts, and seeds.
Great stuff 👍👍
AWESOME INFO
Thank you :).
The best way is to learn the habits in the long life region. Do not argue if saturated fat will harm the life span, as it is too complicated and people may have different responses to them.
Good doctor
So cooking oil made from coconut is much better than corn and seed oils.
Thanks Dr. Fung for such a comprehensive and thoughtful review of the studies that have been done on low fat/high carbohydrate diets and their impact on CVD. Have you considered publishing your results with one of the major journals, or perhaps through NIH or another institution?
Thanks for your vote of confidence. Unfortunately, publishing tends to be a full time job these days and often depends more upon who you know rather than what you know. If time permits, I would certainly like to. However, since the implications of these studies is so far ranging, I'm quite busy with direct patient care.
Marie Minton
Do you fast & then do your diabetics diet? In your book does it give more specifics on
What to do after fasting .
Helen Austin you alternate between fasts and low carb feasts. Both books give the all the info you need: The Obesity Code and The Complete Guide to Fasting.
Dr Fung thank you for the information provided in an approachable way. I'm almost done with the 6 lectures but there is something bothering me. Through all these studies haven't other scientists at the very least came up with a base for this theory? What I mean is how can something that doesn't work be sold as scientific fact for so many years without anyone being the wiser? And not only that also with research stating the obvious opposite?
Money is what driving the lie.
Because all the studies are funded by food companies and all the scientists are indoctrinated with 'progressive' ideas which includes veganism. So they not only have a corrupt system but also massive confirmation bias from indoctrination to overcome. So science today is totally garbage and unreliable.
U r a great person
Oh my goodness. Vegetable oils are so dangerous.
The quin-tile graph on saturated fats @ 37 minutes seemed to show a corollary to a Q3 intake of saturated fats and a decreased risks of heart disease. Do you have data on what that actual amount was?
13:52 Lithuania gets mentioned, even though it's about death, but still, my country got mentioned yay
The only other time I saw it mentioned on a yt video was there was a single jewish man protesting a parade of former soldiers in WW II. It must be a pretty small palce lol
A genius at work. God bless Dr Jason Fung
I love the video but can you be more detailed about what fats and proteins to eat? also I love all your videos YOU IS THE TRUTH ...I LIKE THIS GUY BETTER THEN BRUCE LEE NOW
That's my question. So what are we supposed to eat? still confused
You don't get healthy by eating good foods but avoiding bad ones like sugar, seed oils and bread and pasta.
I have a degree in exercise n nutrition science n have high blood cholesterol, so I take a great interest in clinical studies on this topic. Test subjects with normal blood cholesterol and high blood cholesterol should be analyzed separately. Subjects with normal blood cholesterol seem to have the ability to maintain their blood cholesterol level at healthy levels when feed a high cholesterol diet. BUT subjects with high blood cholesterol seem to lack this ability - if fed a high cholesterol diet, their blood cholesterol will go up. So medical professionals need to be careful when using the data from studies done on the normal cholesterol group. They do not apply to the high cholesterol group.
cholesterol is about as scientific as midichlorians. Virtually no one should care if it's high especially women.
Margarine was originally made by blending skim milk with beef tallow. Are there any studies with the effects of the original Margarine ?
Perhaps have these in podcast form?
Are the references in this seminar listed in your book or accessible to public? I’d like to review and digest this in detail. Thank you.
I've looked a few of them up to do more reading and all of the ones I've looked up (3 or 4) have been accessible for free.
It is a very complicated process of cholesterol in the human body, and can not be figured out just by some graphs
So does this mean cream or half and half isn’t so bad? I love it in my coffee!
Dr. Jason .... great information thank you very much ... your videos changed my life on so many aspects ... using these information I cured many conditions I had and improved my health ....
anyways would you tell me how to to increase the Resting Metabolic Rate?
I want to increase it so I can eat as I want cuz I cook so good...but I want to stay lean after my long time fasting ...
I know that it is better to eat every other day or 1 on and 2 off but when I eat I want to eat as I please ... so how to bring my RMR high so I don't gain fat?
Best Regards.
Is there a way to clearly see the slides being referenced?
Dr. Fung skipped over statins pretty quick, but recent studies have shown that people taking statins can have a 50% increase in developing Type 2 Diabetes.
It would be interesting to know his opinion.
no one should be taking statin drugs.
Very interesting.
Statins do raise blood sugar a little, but those pills can help by lowering inflammation. Statins have several effects.
When you speak about arteries clogging that may cause strokes. Well 5years ago I had a bi-lateral bleed type does diet effect that from happening
Yes, insulin destroys your blood vessels
I enjoy much of what has been presented in the 5 lectures but will disagree that Statins decrease overall mortality. The Jupiter study was stopped as the two groups mortality was beginning to convert (paid for by big pharma). There are no recent studies that actually shoe Statins reduce risk of heart disease or further events.
Statins destroy muscle . The heart is a muscle. So statins increase heart Failure rate.
AS FOR TYPE I DIABETICS WHO INJECTED INSULIN , WILL THIS CAUSE INSULIN RESISTANCE IN THE LATER YEARS ?
Finally last one!
Our food is making us unhealthy and making us die earlier than we should. This needs to be regulated. The grip of the industrial food producers and the pharmaceutical companies that benefit from the status quo need to be broken, so we, as human beings, can get healthy.
Ballet teacher problem here: I tried atkins for 3 months and very frequently while I taught ballet from 3:45 to 7:45 I would get stabbing pains in my calf, one time I actually fell over. I took potassium & magnesium & potassium salt but if I pushed hard to get off the ground I would get a cramp. My body seems to like regular food with available glucose during ballet teaching, like apples and grapes, smoothies, egg sandwiches etc.. So I want to go back and try intermittent fasting and water fast for 3 days to get into ketosis. Then I want to eat normal for my teaching hours to burn glucose during ballet teaching hours and deplete what I've eaten during those hours and then switch to ketosis for the 20 hrs after to burn my fat stores and repeat this every day I teach. Or is my body not that flexible and as soon as I start eating the good carbs to teach would my body not use it and just replenish the stores from my fast first. Can I play with ketosis and Glucose like this to use it for teaching ballet 6 days a week for 4 hours? I hope someone can help me with this because I can't find this answer anywhere. I hate the feeling of ketosis while working but can deal with it in evenings and obviously sleep lol!
Anna Eustace you might be missing real salt, if you eat a low sodium diet. Dr Fung now has an outpatient care called Intensive Dietary Management.
Going into ketosis makes you lose electrolytes but you don't need to go into ketosis. Just drop sugar, bread, pasta and seed oils and limit your total carbs to 100 or less per day and that is plenty for most people to reverse t2 diabetes. If you need more then do a few longer fasts.
What the difference between plasma insulin and serum insulin. Can someone help explain
23:12 - Actually, many 'primative' and agrarian societies ate significantly more fat than Americans in the past 30-40 years have, on average. Especially since Americans have been eating a lot less fat in this time period. 50 years ago, there was no such thing as fat-free milk, or milk products. Pork was juicy and full of flavor - fat. Like beef, it had a nice rim of fat around the chops, and roasts, and both were marbled. Lamb and mutton, both high in fat, were muchh more widely eaten, and not just by recent immigrants and their children. People also ate ducks and geese, both full of fat.
And everyone had meat and eggs for breakfast. Even a Dr. Suess character had eggs and HAM for breakfast.
The herding cultures across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia all ate lots of animal fat. So did the people of the Mediterranean region. Sausages in Spain and Italy are around 50% FAT. Cheeses, pork, lamb, ducks, geese... all high in fat. The French are famous for cooking with lots of butter, goosefat, and other fats. Just to mention a few highlights.
It is interesting to note that olive oil was used for thousands of years in lamos, and on the skin. Its use for food is relatively recent.
BTW, coconut is high in fat, too., So are shellfish, and many fish.
The Paradox is why does anyone still trust their doctors, or even better, why does anyone still "have" a doctor.
Infections, trauma, cuts, sprains, autoimmune diseases, genetic diseases/enzyme deficiencies, congenital diseases, primary hormone deficiencies/glandular dysfunctions, immune deficiencies, cancers.
Plenty of good reasons to go to doctors, but when it comes to diet-related diseases, you should fix your diet first. When patients present with pre-diabetes or pre-hypertension, doctors tell them to change their habits before having to start medications. Unfortunately, the dietary guidance is lacking or even misguided, because doctors aren't taught these things in medical school. So the attempts at better habits fail and we move on to medicine.
Medical schools tell you that a large percentage of things we're teaching you is wrong, we just don't know which portions yet. Medicine isn't a perfect science, it's constantly changing with new information. Unfortunately the drug companies and large food companies produce a lot of bad data and try to push their agenda. If dairy farmers fund a study, turns out milk is great, same with the latest sugar lowering drugs.
No one wants to spend the time to figure out how to fix the most bankable diseases in out society, it will never get fixed if we look to medicine to do it. It's a dietary problem, we need to fix it with our diets. But please go to the doctor for diseases that your diet clearly can't fix. Don't count on diet to fix your strep throat, you'll end up with heart problems later.
There are a lot of reasons to need a doctor. Our bodies do get worn out over the years.
They just believe whatever they see on tv likely because there is no other easy source of info and it constantly promotes the same garbage.
I guess the issue is that people up there fats plus most of them have the standard 50% carbohydate ratio also. because there body uses the glucose first when present all the good fats cause negative consequances and the insulin is high cause of the carbs. But if carbs are significantly reduced and energy is primarily by fats (ketones) then the true systemic benefits of fats are apparent. High Carb and low fat seems to work more cause of calories reduction and require higher energy expenditure. is this kinda correct??? lol
You can't store fat without eating both fat and carbs, and eating simple carbs makes you more hungry.
Am going out soon dr flung going to be walking a lot today I will try not get upset when I get back I know my legs will hurt I am determined to burn some calories for my health dr flung
