  • Is eating saturated fat bad for us? Does eating fat cause obesity? Heart disease? Stroke? How did we become so fat phobic? Are vegetable oils healthy? A critical look at the wealth of scientific data suggests that eating fat (total) and saturated fat might actually protect us from disease. Check out my blog at / drjasonfung

I´m an argentinian phisician dedicated to internal medicine and pain management. I've started to give my patients dietary advice following the principles of low carb and fasting diet. The results are amazing despite I think I'm not an expert in nutrition. Patients don't need insuline or have reduced their antihypertensive drugs and dramatically lose weight. Your lectures are excellent. Thank you for your generosity bringing this outstanding material for free. If I have questions in the future I will be honoured if you let me write to you. Me and my patients will be greatfull.

I was a Nutrition major, worked in clinical nutrition, the politics of big food agri business industry and flawed so-called science have led us astray.

My Dr is extremely happy with me because I have lost so much weight (I was morbidlly obese 39.5 BMI) and my sugars are absolutely normal. I told him that I have been watching what I ate. And I have. In accordance with what I learned from the Etiology seires...And now I am still overweight, but I am steadily losing weight and feeling better and I am looking forward to reaching a BMI in the low 20's.....about 175 lbs for me...

Dr. Fung - Thank you for your excellent lectures. I forwarded your information to Orrin Hatch of US Senate, who is in charge of defining new health plan (Trump Care?). I also sent information about your approach to the White House with request that they investigate your medical approach to reduce cost of the health care in the United States. Low Carbs and fasting should become standard medical approach to care for diabetes. Based on the information I found on youtube I reversed diabetes and lost 30 pounds. I was under medical care for for diabetes 8 years. Now my A1C is 5.3. Thank you again.

The medical profession are bound by prescribing guidelines. They may not agree with them privately but if a patient complains, there is little benefit for the doctor, it's easier for them to go ahead an prescribe statins, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, betablockers, PPI and the usual plethora of drugs for metabolic syndrome.

I have just finished all 6+ hours of this and found it mostly informative and helps arm me for when i have discussions with all the health workers in my family and the ole school educated. I found some major repetitiveness on some subjects and could be clean up to less than 3 hours I’m sure. also a clear view of charts and the use of Dr Fung’s pointer would have been wonderful. But as I have just began my fasting regime and after my first fast of 72hrs with a 1 day feast i am now on a 5 day fast. My feast day do how ever are being regimented along the OMAD idea which I think may be a great idea but will monitor my self to be sure. But I must say I am very happy with the info and the excitement from Dr Jason Fung and hope I can loose 30kg now, which is 10kgs more than I initially planning on, to prepare myself for the knee surgery I am facing in the next 7 months. Nearly 6 years now so hoping for an update soon on all this data. Thanks!

The corn oil explanation did it for me. There really is nothing natural about corn oil particularly the way it's prepared and when you think about it what is the point anyway trying to get oil from something that is not naturally oil anyway. All Just to support some daft theory that these unhealthy oils are healthy. Thanks Dr Fung

On industrial seed oils - cleverly marketed as 'vegetable' - Even the citric acid used in processing (deodorizing, necessary to disguise the rancid odor of these oils) is synthesized from corn; it does not come from citrus fruit.
These oils were originally used for industrial purposes, not food. They might be fine fueling a diesel engine. After all, the inventor used peanut oil.

I told her it was because I ate real butter instead of margarine. After a while she realized it was true. My latest doctor told me the latest suggestions were for all diabetics to on statins and BP meds not matter whether they had problems or not. So I told her I planned on reversing my diabetes so she didn't prescribe the recommended meds. Now I'm off all my diabetes medication and my numbers are now normal. Doctors prescribe what most patients want.

Dr Fung, I have recently discovered your videos and I'm totally blown away with the amount of information and value you are delivering. Thank you ever so much, I did a 12 day total fast and so far I've lost 14 kg already and I felt so great. Something I have not felt in 20 years the feeling of winning. My goal is to go to 58 kg, so I can go out and buy myself a brand new suit. Ha Ha. Anyway the doctors here has diagnosed me with esophageal cancer and a few others malignant spots in the liver. My question here is, would you consider making a video on suggesting a strategy to do whatever I can to heal myself? I understand that I must lower my weight even further, stay away from all sugars and wheat products. Eat a truck load of green crucifious vegetables to keep the body alkaline. Anyway, I'm sure you know what I mean. Thank you again. My Best regards

Thanks for your vote of confidence. Unfortunately, publishing tends to be a full time job these days and often depends more upon who you know rather than what you know. If time permits, I would certainly like to. However, since the implications of these studies is so far ranging, I'm quite busy with direct patient care.

Dr Fung thank you for the information provided in an approachable way. I'm almost done with the 6 lectures but there is something bothering me. Through all these studies haven't other scientists at the very least came up with a base for this theory? What I mean is how can something that doesn't work be sold as scientific fact for so many years without anyone being the wiser? And not only that also with research stating the obvious opposite?

Because all the studies are funded by food companies and all the scientists are indoctrinated with 'progressive' ideas which includes veganism. So they not only have a corrupt system but also massive confirmation bias from indoctrination to overcome. So science today is totally garbage and unreliable.

I have a degree in exercise n nutrition science n have high blood cholesterol, so I take a great interest in clinical studies on this topic. Test subjects with normal blood cholesterol and high blood cholesterol should be analyzed separately. Subjects with normal blood cholesterol seem to have the ability to maintain their blood cholesterol level at healthy levels when feed a high cholesterol diet. BUT subjects with high blood cholesterol seem to lack this ability - if fed a high cholesterol diet, their blood cholesterol will go up. So medical professionals need to be careful when using the data from studies done on the normal cholesterol group. They do not apply to the high cholesterol group.

Ballet teacher problem here: I tried atkins for 3 months and very frequently while I taught ballet from 3:45 to 7:45 I would get stabbing pains in my calf, one time I actually fell over. I took potassium & magnesium & potassium salt but if I pushed hard to get off the ground I would get a cramp. My body seems to like regular food with available glucose during ballet teaching, like apples and grapes, smoothies, egg sandwiches etc.. So I want to go back and try intermittent fasting and water fast for 3 days to get into ketosis. Then I want to eat normal for my teaching hours to burn glucose during ballet teaching hours and deplete what I've eaten during those hours and then switch to ketosis for the 20 hrs after to burn my fat stores and repeat this every day I teach. Or is my body not that flexible and as soon as I start eating the good carbs to teach would my body not use it and just replenish the stores from my fast first. Can I play with ketosis and Glucose like this to use it for teaching ballet 6 days a week for 4 hours? I hope someone can help me with this because I can't find this answer anywhere. I hate the feeling of ketosis while working but can deal with it in evenings and obviously sleep lol!

Going into ketosis makes you lose electrolytes but you don't need to go into ketosis. Just drop sugar, bread, pasta and seed oils and limit your total carbs to 100 or less per day and that is plenty for most people to reverse t2 diabetes. If you need more then do a few longer fasts.

23:12 - Actually, many 'primative' and agrarian societies ate significantly more fat than Americans in the past 30-40 years have, on average. Especially since Americans have been eating a lot less fat in this time period. 50 years ago, there was no such thing as fat-free milk, or milk products. Pork was juicy and full of flavor - fat. Like beef, it had a nice rim of fat around the chops, and roasts, and both were marbled. Lamb and mutton, both high in fat, were muchh more widely eaten, and not just by recent immigrants and their children. People also ate ducks and geese, both full of fat.
And everyone had meat and eggs for breakfast. Even a Dr. Suess character had eggs and HAM for breakfast.
The herding cultures across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia all ate lots of animal fat. So did the people of the Mediterranean region. Sausages in Spain and Italy are around 50% FAT. Cheeses, pork, lamb, ducks, geese... all high in fat. The French are famous for cooking with lots of butter, goosefat, and other fats. Just to mention a few highlights.
It is interesting to note that olive oil was used for thousands of years in lamos, and on the skin. Its use for food is relatively recent.
BTW, coconut is high in fat, too., So are shellfish, and many fish.

Infections, trauma, cuts, sprains, autoimmune diseases, genetic diseases/enzyme deficiencies, congenital diseases, primary hormone deficiencies/glandular dysfunctions, immune deficiencies, cancers.
Plenty of good reasons to go to doctors, but when it comes to diet-related diseases, you should fix your diet first. When patients present with pre-diabetes or pre-hypertension, doctors tell them to change their habits before having to start medications. Unfortunately, the dietary guidance is lacking or even misguided, because doctors aren't taught these things in medical school. So the attempts at better habits fail and we move on to medicine.
Medical schools tell you that a large percentage of things we're teaching you is wrong, we just don't know which portions yet. Medicine isn't a perfect science, it's constantly changing with new information. Unfortunately the drug companies and large food companies produce a lot of bad data and try to push their agenda. If dairy farmers fund a study, turns out milk is great, same with the latest sugar lowering drugs.
No one wants to spend the time to figure out how to fix the most bankable diseases in out society, it will never get fixed if we look to medicine to do it. It's a dietary problem, we need to fix it with our diets. But please go to the doctor for diseases that your diet clearly can't fix. Don't count on diet to fix your strep throat, you'll end up with heart problems later.

I guess the issue is that people up there fats plus most of them have the standard 50% carbohydate ratio also. because there body uses the glucose first when present all the good fats cause negative consequances and the insulin is high cause of the carbs. But if carbs are significantly reduced and energy is primarily by fats (ketones) then the true systemic benefits of fats are apparent. High Carb and low fat seems to work more cause of calories reduction and require higher energy expenditure. is this kinda correct??? lol
