- Hey Guys Sorry for the wait, I know this is has been a long time coming but I finally released the Digimon Survive Video. Did I like it or not? check out the video to see my thoughts.
Music used in order;
Deltarune - Fields of Hopes and Dreams
Deltarune - Scarlet Forest
Dark Cloud 1 - Spirit King
Fire Emblem Engage - Bright Bold Sandstorm
Dark Cloud 2 - Premonition
Digimon World 3 - Central Park
If you're wondering why I didn't use more Survive tracks I noticed that many were taken down so I wanted to avoid using them out of fear of a copyright strike. I also tried to use less digimon tracks due to the different nature of the game.

Some things I want to add to the video via comment since I worked on this so long and didn't want to re-record certain parts;
- Agumon is an enjoyable constant stalwart companion in this game and it's what helps give this game its unique flavor. You'll love him by the time its over.
- The UI being your cell phone/digivice is just a brilliant natural move and it looks great.
- Localization Problems was an issue I removed prior to recording because the game seemingly was rushed out by Namco Bandai. Localizations should be handled in care but in this games case, because of the rushed nature I felt like I would be punching down at the localizers as they likely werent given sufficient time.
- I make the gameplay sound worse than it is, my intent was to kinda describe it as being 80/90% of the way there to being a solid srgp but it just missed the mark despite still being enjoyable and passable. One example is how diigmon trees feel separate instead of building on pervious evolutions skills like previous games.
Also while working on this longer video I do think I increased my work ethic skills as I did most of the editing in the prior week, the 26 minute length led to more verbal flubs than normal so I'll likely downscale the length again. But still I'm proud of myself for this one and I hope you all enjoy it!
On a side note if I started to link twitch streams to get footage for future videos to this CZcams would you all be fine with that?
Thanks for the additional notes, it's nice to get that insight! Great work!!! And yes please link your twitch!!!
I really liked the part in the climax where things look rough and the protagonist says "Agumon, we have to Digimon Survive this"
Couldn't stop crying
when renamon starting twerking oiled up while ed sheeran singing survive started I had a complete mental breakdown
@@BobbyHopp Pokemon would never compare to that moment
@@BobbyHopp Truly the Digimon of all times. I'm shaking and crying from sheer peak 😭😭
I find it really interesting that Digimon Survive is like a reinterpretation of Digimon Adventure, and make it better than Adventure.
Like one concept that Kakudo - Adventure's director and main writer - had was that Digimon are like Yōkai and a reflection of our being, rather than digital monsters that fight because is their nature.
I also enjoy the concept of how the attributes or the name of the creatures are like 'moral, harmony and wrath' and 'Kemonogami' instead of the digital attributes and Digimon, because they aren't discovered by anyone else than the Professor, but they are still addressed as the mythological entities. It fits well with the atmosphere and theme of Survive.
I don't mind getting to choose between several routes if you have a minimum percentage of choices geared towards a certain path. Personally, I made it a point to avoid looking at the indicator that tells you the alignment of each conversational choice in the name of making unbiased, natural decisions, so I ended up with several choices during the path split, which I enjoy since it feels like it symbolizes the idea of reaching a turning point in your life where one decision dictates what kind of person you'll define yourself as from that moment onwards even if you were making multifaceted choices before that point while you were finding your footing in life. In my case, I usually ended up making Harmonic choices since they were geared towards looking out for your companions while keeping a level head for their sake, but would lean into Moral choices whenever the Harmonic ones felt too cold and impersonal. As such, I ended up taking the Moral path in the end because keeping those I felt indebted to safe were always my primary concern, not something as large-scale as saving the world.
Honestly, Digimon Survive pushed me to give Cyber Sleuth another try. I LOVED what I played of Cyber Sleuth, but I got busy and it wasn't a priority; so it was shelved. And here I am with 110+ hours of Survive logged, excited to play Cyber Sleuth after I finish everything I wish to do in Survive.
Labramon was actually in the anime before this. She was a digital recreation of Takato's cousin's dog created by Takato's uncle. It was all in the first of 2 Tamers movies
thats very interesting thanks for letting me know dude, I guess it still plays into the spirit of them taking niche old digimon and putting them in the spotlight.
@@BobbyHopp I actually rewatched it recently and I had misremembered whose Digimon it was. The creator of the V-Pet in Tamers, it was his and his daughter's dog and the computer V-Pet he made was Labramon's in-training form. Also, the Labramon in question could Digivolve to Cecermon
Whoa, I really wanna check it out now!
Thanks for the great video. I love to watch your content and hope to see more.
Thank you so much for the support I truly do appreciate it!
Good to see you again! This game was quite the doozy, wasn't it? I'm glad that, despite everything, you did end up enjoying the experience. And now that you've finished this project, I hope you also might also take a look at my take on the game ;)
I'll definitely try to give it a watch tomorrow!
YOOO LETS GET IT
NEW BOBBY VIDEO LET'S GOOOO
BABE WAKE UP! A NEW BOBBY VIDEO JUST DROPPED!
back by unpopular demand. me-
12:48 Labramon debuted back in 2001.
thanks for letting me know, I guess it just plays more into how well this game takes old digimon and puts them in the spotlight.
@@BobbyHopp I see.
I enjoyed my time with Digimon Survive and I do agree with a lot of your criticisms too. As someone who has played Digimon RPGs on and off over the years, this one in particular was an interesting one. One one hand I think they definately nailed the tone, story and characters. On the other, and although I like the tactics-style for combat it was very, VERY basic. I will say though to the game's credit the roster of digimon they picked for this game was decent. I do also agree that whilst the True Ending is nice, it is a grind to do it (although the final boss fight is epic as hell) and he ending itself feels like a copout. For me I thought the Wrathful and Harmony endings were the best.
All that aside, it's a great game that people will either love or hate and I totally understand why for both side. That being said I do wholeheartedly recommend this game, any publicity for it is warranted. Not just because it deserves it (and Digimon in general) but also because we could get that potential sequel it sorely needs down the road. The game's director has said they would consider it if the game sold well (and I believe it did). A sequel to this game would allow them to improve upon the faults that this game had and make an even better game as a result.
If it does get a sequel Id hope it would go for a different premise or concept since this game did the kemonogami small scale thing very well.
Id love to see them put more niche digimon in the spotlight too in a sequel like gizamon or gotsumon.
I couldnt fit it into the video but alongside the demi veemon copout the actual writing in the end of the true route being "oopsie poopsie it was all a misunderstanding" was also really weak and fully indicated to me the writing wasnt done when bamco forced the game out.
But still I did enjoy the game and I hope this video encourages more people to try it out.
@@BobbyHopp Yes to all those things. At the very least an expanded roster of digimon but definately get more recent or niche digimon. I'm so glad we got digimon like BoltBoutamon, BanchoStingmon and even Marsmon to name a few.
I remember when the whole group shouted in unison "we have to Digimon Survive this!"
Then they started to survive all over the place.
Another great game who was 90% dialogue and 10% battle it was 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim. I recommand it a lot. ;)
I actually bought the game like 2 years ago and got it sitting in my drawer, one day ill play it between now and the end of time. ty for the suggestion!
Since the Legacy Collection is coming out this month, I suggest you to cover Mega Man Battle Network. It's a unique RPG where it mix real time strategy and turn based style. Also it shares a similar digital world concept as Digimon so that's neat.
I'm gonna try and pick that up if not this month but soon.
I like the megaman collections that capcom has done and want to support them when possible. I actually had a battle network game as a kid but was so bad at the game I didnt make it far so I'm looking forward to trying them again.
I've actually recently bought the collection and I definitely want to try and make a video for it.
Great review! ;)
Honestly I really like Digimon Survive and for a first time attempt, they did a pretty good job melding the Digimon story into a Visual Novel style.
It was truly a love letter to the OG fans of the Adventure 01-02 & Tamers.
Unfortunately, for people who are not accustomed to VN titles, Survive can be a hard pill to swallow.
As for the battle system - it was ok; serviceable and fun at times but it just needed that little something to spice it up and make it addictive.
However, the digivolutions were kinda a bit lacking, especially when it came to the other partner Digimons (like always...)
But I truly hope they at least give the VN style a second go perhaps this time properly branching out the story paths and evolutions.
Some nice things that they could do is make the Ultimate level unlockable at story segments depending on the character relationships level but afterwards locking it by various criteria in battles like low HP, using special move X times, partner encouraging X times etc...
Each character could then have an optional sidequest (searching for their crest or special item) disabling the locks for the Ultimate level and gaining the possibility for the Mega level later in the story.
There could also be 3 pathways - Vaccine, Virus & Data which could reflect on each partner Digimon's forms (granting several evolutions branches for the other Digimons too) and depending on the higher amount of Digimon types acquired in the story, the story would move into a specific route.
There could also be several types of routes akin to other VN:-
Route A (Data) could be the secret route where a side villain actually becomes the main one.
Route B (Virus) could be the one where they face the main villain.
Route C (Vaccine) could be the true route where the secrets of the story are revealed and a completely new villain appears.
Route D (Free) being the 'normal' route.
Each having their own good, bad and neutral endings.
There's just so much potential!
I truly hope we one day get a sequel to it and also - we NEED a new Digimon World game!
Thank you for the comment and compliment! glad you enjoyed the game too. It can definitely be a hard pill to swallow which is why i think itll become a cult hit in the series.
Also I agree I hope we get a new world
title soon, we know a new story game is soon so hopefully world follows.
I really like this game's story, but I can't find any fun in the strategy gameplay (even though I'm a huge Fire emblem and strategy games in general), there is just no depth at all, I wish this game would be just a VN, bc the story is fantastic, but having to go through a boring fight every once in a while just kills the pace.
I have yet to finish the game, but maybe I will pick it up again.
I think not enjoying the gameplay is understandable and honestly if you want to continue through the story faster I highly recommend easy mode because it makes the fights nearly nonexistant and last a fraction of the time.
This video suddenly popped while i was watching a video what's the video about I don't get it 🤔
it's about how agumon has committed warcrimes and is wanted by the UN for murder
