    ABOUT RAVENWOLF RETRO TECH
    RavenWolf Retro Tech brings you new vintage tech videos regularly. We currently have about half a dozen videos in various states of completion, including Amiga 2500, 2000 and 4000 restorations, part 2 of the Osbourne Executive Restoration (I know, its about time), a universal Commodore bench power supply, and a video on Commodore 64 and Amiga video output options and more!
    At RavenWolf Retro Tech we restore and explore vintage technology from Back in the Day!
    Now that we are moved into the new shop, the frequency of videos is increasing. I’ll keep putting out videos as I can, but I promise to focus on higher quality videos that don’t waste your time over frequent, low effort projects.

    Good work Mike, amazing to see the machine fire up after all these years.

      Thanks Gary, I am really looking forward to fixing it again once the power supply parts come in 🙄

    Nice Job! another excellent A4000 joins the world again! It's a huge amount of time and work to refub these machines

      Thanks, There will be one more restoration on this eventually. The PSU died as I was editing this. Not surprising given the reputation these have. I'm ordering parts and also ordered an ATX adapter as a backup.

      @@RavenWolfRetroTech Actually the a4000 psu is a good design and somewhat simple. its not as efficient as modern stuff but quite robust, that being said, they are 22+ years old.

      That's good to know, I have been hearing them being disparaged a lot lately

    Back in the day when I worked on many PC Computers the first indication the cable was on backwards was the fact that the Drive LED remained lit when PC was powered on. Not sure that applies to absolutely all drives/scenarios but certainly all that I've worked on. Another great Video btw! I'll be watching all the Videos you put out with some eagerness as I'm a big Commodore fan (although I have a few Apple/Mac Computers as well). -Mark.

      Thanks Mark. In this case i meant that i had the wrong end on the cable connected sobe you need the twisted lines on DF0 on the 4000.

    I've been a little scared to use the ultrasonic but after using it a few times it's worked out really well. I had an a4000 doing weird stuff with the video out and a pc engine duo with issues after a recap. I'd say 100% put any board in the ultrasonic after a recap.

      After using one daily in my business for years the thing I really focus on is using the minimum time possible with moderate heat. We used Simple green in ours so I am using that in this one.

    Looking over the Sony drive, can you see anything changed on the board different from a stock Sony drive? Or is all the alterations done on the back add on board?

    • @RavenWolfRetroTech
      @RavenWolfRetroTech  Před rokem +1

      They have added a power connector that only connects to one lead on the berg connector (12V I think but have not verified). Its held in place by that evil brown glue.

    Chris Edwards’ video doesn’t address how to get Amiga compatibility with HD 1.76MB drives. This drive shows 1.76 MB authentic capacity…

      That is a very good point! I will; take a closer look at it in the next A4000 video or in a quick short soon!
