I wanted to personally thank you for helping and preparing me for my CNA exam! I literally binge watched all your videos specially this one and literally got tested one peri care! What are the odds! I shared your channel with my CNA instructor so she’s able to share your content with her future classes. Thank you so much Nurse Jar! Hi, Molly! Wonderful!!! CONGRATULATIONS 👏 🎊 💐 🥳! Glad my videos were instrumental in your passing your exam! Thank you for referring my channel!
Thank you Nurse Jar for your informative video. I cannot express how much some of videos ha.ve helped me and my mom. My mother has alzheimer's and I provide full time care for her. No one ever says hey this is how you do something, or show you how to perform essential care at home and with the pandemic we are even more isolated. As mom declines I have had to figure out how to do everything on my own. At times this is more than over whelming I stumbled onto your videos and you have been a blessing. Thank you for your dedication.
This was the one skill that I didn't want and I got it but I passed my test on 2/6/2021 after putting it off for 11 years after lasping. Hi Mrs Julie. Thank you so much for all your great videos. I will be taking my test on Wednesday 18th March. Am more confident that I will pass after watching all your videos. I will come back to share my result. Thanks a lot
Great video julie after wash president dont u also change glove a second so u dont contaminate the bed linen while turning resident back in posotin
Hi, Annmarue! Thank you! In real life, yes, you would. But, for testing, it's not required. Remember, the candidate does not and should not integrate what is done in real life with what is required to be done during testing. Adding in unnecessary, additional steps will only cost the candidate time.
Hi I have a question. In the video you left the patient in bed with it raised high while you went to put away & clean the supplies. I always thought we were suppose to lower the bed when we aren't with the patient. Will that be accepted in the skills test or do I lower the bed before I walk away to put the supplies away?
are we allowed to touch the patient's gown and bedsheets with dirty gloves after we are done washing & wiping? In order to get them back into position and pull their covers up. i mean we can't leave them exposed and go wash our hands so what do we do?
I noticed that you kept the bed in high position as you walked away to wash rinse and dry the bath basin. If we do that on our state exam will we fail that skill or get flagged?
Hi Mrs. Sanders, I notice that during the Perineal Care and catheter care, you wash your hand before, during and after the skill. in the skills of the book, it only stated to wash the hand before and after the skill is over. the same thing I learn in the Prometric. I m taking the test in Alabama with Pearson vue. Do you have to wash hands 3 time or 2 times? another question: is it only these two skills that required 3 times washing? Thank so much!!!!LOL
Thanks for the great videos! I have 2 questions:
1) You pulled the blanket all the way down for teaching purposes, but what would you have done for testing? Only bring it down to the knees or calves?
2) Were you placing all of your wash cloths on the side of the basin? If you laid them on the clean barrier, would that be a no-no?
Thank you!
Thank You! For your first question, to avoid overexposure, pull the sheet down to the knees. You only want to expose between the hips and knees. For your second question, I placed the washcloths on the side of the basin. If you placed a clean barrier on the table, like a towel, it would be okay for you to place the washcloths on the clean barrier away from clean supplies. I do not have my students to place a clean barrier on the table, as that eats up time.
@@NURSEJAR ll
How do you not over expose the resident? do you use 2 towels?
I start my skills test in 2 weeks i will pass my skills test
Do I do the opening procedures FIRST then gather my supplies when leaving the room ? Or should I prepare my supplies .. do my opening prosedure and THEN go back outside to get my supplies ?
Hi, Rivera21! It's most logical to first, address the client, opening procedures, explaining your 2nd skill, perform Hand Hygiene, then gather your supplies for your 2nd skill. Hope that made sense!!!
hi thank you for helping i just have question because I'm study in CNA in why after washing the patient you don't put any brief for her just let me know please and thank so mush ,
Hi, Noese! My training videos are demonstrating how to perform testable skills during certification testing. The placement of an adult brief is not a required step for testing.
Hi Ms. Julie I'm taking my test Tom and having issues with a few things. On this skill and catheter care, when you put down the linen cover do I roll down the blanket to her knees and her gown to her hips or do you put the cover on with them still covered by blankets and then raise the gown and lower the sheet? Also for positioning with the pillows for the positioning skill, you say not to remove the sheet. I'm confused, do I put the pillow between the legs underneath the sheet or do they not even use the sheet to cover up in that skill? Hopefully these questions make sense, I'm so nervous and I dont know who else to ask so thank you in advance!
Hi, Alyssa! Your questions make perfect sense. I'll do a quick live stream regarding your questions.
Thank you so much!! You are the best teacher! I wish I was in Texas and not Pennsylvania!!!
@@alyssacarrozza784 Aw! Thank you! You are most welcome!
Good day Nurse JAR. CAN I SAY THAT PEARSON VUE SKILLS AND PROMETRIC SKILLS ARE THE SAME EXCEPT IN HAND WASHING?
Hi, Elizabeth! No, unfortunately, you cannot! Prometric has a few different skills, such as hand & nail care and emptying a urinary drainage bag. Also, with Prometric, they do a partial bed bath, unlike Pearson Vue's, modified bed bath. There are a few other differences, as well.
Ms. Julie I always turn the CLIENT towards me when cleaning the rectal area. Is it okay to do it for skill testing?
Hi, Grace! You have to turn the client away from you for 2 reasons: 1 - you have to have a good visual of the rectal area and of what you are doing, and, 2 - Infection Control. Just remember to raise the side rail before turning the person.
Hello Miss Reynolds! When applying the chucks under the resident to perform peri-care do you have to turn the resident on their side or could ask the resident to lift their hips? I know in a real life situation the resident may not be able to lift, but for testing purposes. I test August 10, and trying to be sure all my questions are answered. Thank you for these videos, they have helped me tremendously.
Hi, Angela! For testing, you may raise the mannequin's hips to place the protector. Just remember to verbalize what you are doing before you actually do it. Glad to hear my videos are helpful! Thank you!
Isn't the patient still on the dirty mat when u turn them over?
Hi Mrs Julie I have questions . Can I empty the water in the commode? And if I don’t raise the side rail up is it ok? Just ask for more information just in case I forgot to do it.
Hi, UnikS2! The only skills you will be required to empty the contents into the toilet are Bedpan and Urinary Output. F ok r all other water skills, you empty the contents of the wash basin and emesis basin into the sink.
As far as the side rail, you must raise the side rail in any skill that requires you to turn the client away from you. If you do not, you will get flagged for "Safety".
Hope I answered your questions!
Ma’am is going round the meats clock wise 3 times, counter clock wise 3 times and again clock wise 3 times accepted?
Or there are no circular motion in peri care or catheter care please advice me.
Hi, Amore. You will be performing this skill on a female mannequin, not a Male mannequin.
On this skill I was taught to let the resident bend their knees and I put the towel on over the thighs and go under and clean. Is that true ?
Seems like a second set of gloves necessary to roll patient to remove sheet guard. Guess i am ocd but to me those gloves too dirty to then touch and roll her
Hi, S.C.! Please, realize that my videos are not demonstrating how to perform nursing tasks in "real life".
My videos are demonstrating how to perform "testable skills" during testing as required by the NNAAP.
I’m doing CNA classes - test day is in February very nervous
Hi, Elijah's World! Good luck on your training! Be a SPONGE! Soak in all the information your Instructor shares with you. Ask questions, especially the "WHY" question, so you may gain a better understanding of Theory.
Do not waste time. Seize every opportunity to practice hands-on skills. And most importantly, practice outside of your training environment.
Keep me posted on how you are doing.
I hve a question,Before u empties rinses and dries the basin, why u didn’t lower the bed and give the call light? Because of the gloves?
Hello! Thank you for your question. For testing, you have to remember that you are not only being evaluated on skills performance, but also the 5 (five) indirect care skills: communication, privacy, safety, dignity, and infection control. Because my gloves were dirty, I chose to lower the bed level after removing gloves and washing my hands. As long as the bed is in a low, safe position, you may walk away from it. When I raised the client's bed, it was still in a low, safe position. Hope this was helpful.
JULIE REYNOLDS thank u, hope u make a vid for feeding, footcare, ambulating 😭 thank u ms julie
@@hanni7632 Yes! I am in the process of making updated manual skills videos and will upload them as I complete them. Thank You!
Hi Ms Julie! At what point are we supposed to put on the gloves? Can you put on the gloves after you grab the supplies or do you want to do it after you set everything up?
Hi, Taylor! It doesn't really matter when you put on your gloves as long as you put them on BEFORE placing the linen protector.
JULIE REYNOLDS thank you! My test is this weekend! I’m very nervous. Your videos have been helping me a lot!
Hi Mrs. Reynolds, ok so for this skill do you have to identify the client by wristband? I think I asked this question when you were answering questions recently. I know this one is an old video and there have been updates but now I'm confused.
Hi, Shanitha. No. You do not need to identify the client by the wrist band on any skill.
@@NURSEJAR ok gotcha, just making sure 😊
Nurse Jar when I clean the private area I have to speak what I’m doing?
Hi, Maria! Yes! Always verbalize what you are doing.
Can you raise the manekin's hips in order to place a linen protector or only flip them on their side?
Hi, Carlie!
You may either manually raise the mannequins' hips or turn the mannequin on its side.
Julie, you said that you were exposing just for the video, but how do you not over expose while needing to see that area to clean? Do we do it under the sheet and peak?
Hi, Kayla! Just ensure that you do not raise the gown higher than the hips and do not lower the sheet pass the knees. So, you want to expose between the hips and knees only. Hope I answered your question!
@@NURSEJAR yes thank you!!!!!
Haha
@@crystalwhite1637 ?
I take my test Wednesday, so What should I do to not over expose the Patient if we have to clean them?
Hi, Jacqueline! Do not lower top sheet below knee level and do not raise gown above hip level.
Can I dry the rectal area with the same (towel) linen protector?
Louis From PA
Hi, Louis! No. The linen protector is used only to protect the sheets from becoming soiled.
I took the test today but I confused one skill. I don't know if I will pass. I am worrying now.
Hi, Alamitos! Don't panic!!! Wait for your results. You should be fine! Let me know how you do.
And are we supposed to do this with the sheets on top
Hi, Rivera21! If you are testing under Pearson Vue, a privacy sheet is not required.
For what you don't protect the table?
For testing, laying a clean barrier on the over-the table is not required. You only waste time by doing unrequited steps.
When testing can we ask the real person to lift their hips to put the linen protector down?
Yes, you can. The live candidate will be instructed to be cooperative during testing.
When removing the protector must you go the other side
Hi, Benson! No.
Aww Mr J,so u r checking My friends phone as well Awww. Please respect her Privacy. She’s caring for the elderly.....& God will Bless Her.
What? Sorry, but, I'm not understanding your comment. These are training videos for nurse aide candidates. In this video, I am overexposing the client in order for viewers to see how I am cleaning the client.
Truly not understanding your comment. Please, feel free to clarify what you are talking about or what you're trying to say.
My test is tomorrow 😳 where did you put the used wash clothes? Back in basin or on protective barrier?
I hung them on the sides of the wash basin.
JULIE REYNOLDS okay thank you and thanks for quick reply
@@fblavishfblavish you're welcome. Good luck on your exam!
Hello just wanted to ask if this also apply for PA
Hi, Faithanna! Yes. I believe PA also tests under Pearson Vue.
How about the hand washing, when do we perform it?
Hi, Alexandra! Thanks for your question. You will be required to perform hand washing in the skill "Hand Hygiene", which will always be the first skill you perform. Any other time as skill requires "hand washing", you need only to verbalize, "washing my hands". Hope this answered your question!
Why is it that you test the water with your wrist or elbow while the patient tests the same water with their fingers
Hi, Promise! You may test the water with either your wrist, finger, or elbow. Whichever you prefer.
Please help!! Is raising the side rail when turning the client necessary on this skill? In my book it does not mention lifting any side rails. I know in real life that is necessary, but what about for the test? Also, do I have to roll the client over to place and remove the linen protector? Or can I place it and remove it without turning them? Thanks!! Testing tomorrow
Hi, Kate! Although it does not mention raising the side rail when turning the client, it is implied that the candidate must do so due to safety.
So, yes! Raise the side rail on the same side you'll be turning the client before you turn them.
Thank you!! You’re awesome. Wish me luck tomorrow on my test!
