Today I finally did my first ever spraypaint. Been studying this ”mini-series”. Put the epoxy down on bare metal. Went well I think. Loooot of work. Used a cheap Bürisch gun. Have the car in a partytent. Worked awesome. Now it’s just the rest left😄 Using Mipa all the way btw. Me ranting. Just wanted to say a big thank you for your vids. Live in Sweden. Good for you. Otherwise I would be hanging around your shop every day😄

MY favorite epoxy for high build and blocking is PCL Prime n seal. great adhesion and sealing, plus it is a surfacer so small stuff will block out easy. Powder sand apply filler over it as needed. Great for guide coat and recoating with any urethane high build primer. Otherwise I like to wet bed surfacer over the epoxy primer for high build. Chameleon epoxy is great for adhesion and seal coat then they have a high build urethane to wet bed right over that without sanding. Super high adhesion and build. and also good for good quality filler over that.

My son bought a post WWII mini in England and rebuilt it. They don’t paint the body on the chassis it’s too easy to take it off. You pull the interior out, engine and transmission, and all four wheels. Then they lay down cardboard, roll it on on side and take the chassis off. Then they roll the body back over set it on a trailer and haul it to the body shop. While it’s being painted they clean and paint anything that needs it, like rebuilding the engine if necessary. When the body comes back they assemble the car in the reverse order. It makes for a perfect car and is really very simple.

    Good job mate! A question:
I'm about to do a full respray of a Nissan Patrol with a Chamaeleon's bed liner(same thing as raptor). I'm not doing a bare metal, just partial one where the rust repair took place. Can i put some rust converter before, where needed for surface rust? Would you recommend a full epoxy respray, even over old paint( which would be lightly sanded beforehand)? Is that a good practice? So a procedure would be this: bare metal or sanded paint + rust converter where needed > epoxy primer(just bare metal or full spray?) > filler work > 2k base primer/filler > bedliner(hvlp gun, i'll try to get a fine texture with a couple of thinner layers than with a undercoating gun that it is usually sprayed with).
How does that look to you? Any tips? Thanks!

Hi Tony, Have you any advice for using stripper on an entire mini shell? I have a rolling shell, 1275 Clubman, (LS-Australian) which, body wise is in very very good nick. Previous owner has stated prep, I have primed sections as well as some filler/repair sections which has been primed over. The floor section is pristine, with zero rust (no filth gritter trucks here in winter! lol).
I purchased the car as a long term project and am very keen to do most of the body work myself, at least as close to final prep as possible. Ive never seen a car pulled back to bare metal like you did with this one and was very interested in the process. Im currently building a rottisserie Jig to fully access the old floor seal (stone chip). I have a decent size shed so can do most work indoors but was looking for your thoughts on the paint stripping process, and if its suited for a noob DIY or not. Ive been quoted a price for 'paint removal and epoxy prep via a sand blast type process but using a softer abrasive (cant remember what he was going to use). The price seemed

The more standard tartan colour red would be a lot easier and then if you went that route you’d be looking at 2k gloss candy definitely wouldn’t recommend unless your good at painting and have a decent space and setup to do it in

@@TonysRefinishingTV that was my thought i just get confused with all the different types of paints , with painting in a garage what paint type would be best for just air drying

2k will air dry fine buddy just takes a little extra time , by baking it we’re just accelerating the process that’s all

Why did you not ding the dents out on the boot lid as much less to wipe in later.
I was using gipfast 60 in the 80's

The parts had already been sat in bare metal for a while and didn’t want them flash rations so we sealed them later I metal pulled the dents did the filler work and then in the next video epoxy again and prime the shell the longer the shell sits in bare metal at this time of year the worse it’ll get

@@TonysRefinishingTV no problem, jga54 with a 43 nozzle was the gun of the day back then. Saw a Etype pull in a mot centre so bowled in as I know them. I said to the owner of the garage...I put a passenger door skin on one like that 25 years ago..A voice from behind me said YES you did and it is still good. and it was lol in BR Green. Ricky still had the car

In the older days we used an acid based primer does it not need it with the new primers only asking mate as you know its a few years since I did it so I'm not into new paints and primers its a good job as always plus telling people to buy British and local is good we don't always know that Britain produce good products take care mate

The new epoxy based primers mate are much better to use than the old style etch these adhere direct to metal seal it properly unlike etch and aren’t porous like the high builds so the metals sealed and protected from the start
