ANOTHER TEST WOULD BE TO PUT 3 POUNDS IN THE BOTTLE...THEN LEAVE IT ON THE SCALE. THROTTLE UP AND SEE WHAT WEIGHT REMAINS ON THE SCALE. THE DIFFERENCE IS YOUR MAX LIFT WEIGHT!

Very true. Didn't think of that. The work around is to have the string at a length like 10 feet so it wot effect it. Also this brings up a good point... wouldn't the wind with the current set up effect the load as well?

I've been thinking about getting one for light lifting around the house, like fetching my shoes from another room, or other light things when I don't want to get out of my chair, but even though this could apparently carry my shoes, it's SO loud that, living in apt. building, I think it might bother the neighbors. Sounds about as loud as a vacuum, so I guess I could run it for quick bursts during the day, which is all I'd need, but still.....so loud.
I don't know much about these things, but I'm assuming there is a motor for each fan, and it would probably be quieter to have one motor and a belt drive to run all the fans. That might reduce the dB some. I wonder if anyone makes drones like that?

I think it will do the opposite. I'm not an expert on this matter, but I think faster gears mean more speed and less power. If you look at a car, you can get a higher speed in second gear than in first gear, but the first gear will pull a higher total weight.
I don't know if the gears in a drone will work in the same way tho, but I would definitely be interested to see an experiment on this subject.

A far more faster and precise way to do it would be put a large weight, more than the mavic could handle over a scale, push "tare" on the scale and try to lift that wight with the drone progressively to full power. The reading of the scale at this moment will be the max lift force of the drone. Note this will not be the max the drone can carry.

In this case, set the scale to zero hanging without any wight apllied, and hang the scale upside down, to include itself weight in the final reading.
