There are two approaches to building forest roads, 1) Bulldozer. This typically results in a road that is "dug in" to the landscape, and 2) Excavator. This is done by digging out the material from the ditch and placing it in the middle of the road and then compacting and shaping it. The bulldozer approach is faster because you don't have to wait for the material to dry when it is constructed, but all the water from the surrounding landscape ends up in the road and it is forever sloppy. The excavator road takes longer to build but because it has drainage and it's higher then the landscape, and you can put a crown on the road for the water to run off, you end up with a much more useable road for more seasons. Since soil loses all structural integrity when wet, as Phil pointed out, nearly no forest roads are open in the spring until everything dries as to not ruin the road surface. Keep it up Phil, love the vids.

Agreed... also I've never seen buckets stored like that. If its rains they are just going to collect water. They should be stacked and stored upside down at least. I think he could relatively easily build that section into a cabinet and put in a floor raised off the ground and a little roof to shed water.
