Nice work Ty! On paper the weather this year wasn't too bad but out on course it was HOT and had quite a lot of exposure. My garmin recorded a max of 106F which I'm sure was the tailwind portion just past Pomona lake. It definitely didn't get to 106 like my GPS said, but I'm willing to bet it was every bit of 96 degrees out there. I've been getting progressively lower on my tires pressures but I'm gambling a bit since I'm still running tubes for the time being. I'm 175 and ran appx 35 front, 38 rear on 700x40 Kenda Booster Pro's at the Bad Astra which worked pretty well. Going tubeless on my next set of tires, I'll definitely be going with slightly fatter tires and much lower pressures. Comfort is so important on these long gravel rides.
Yea that is one think I failed to mention in my closing comments. The exposure! It got hot with that sun beating down on us all day. And you are correct. Having a big tire at lower pressure is nice, especially if the roads are chunky.
I guess Ottawa, Ontario is considerably bigger than Ottawa, Kansas lol. I loved hockey growing up. I have a super rare Alexi Yoshin Senators card. One of my favorite cards.
7:35 although not a gravel race, I think it was 2011 I did a road bicycle road race.... I want to say it was July, I was doing the cat 4. Weather was about 85° in about 80% humidity. our race I think was 66 miles. I took three 24oz water bottles with me. By the time we got to about mile 50 I had drank all the water i had 🙂. I didn't get dropped in this race, but by the time we got to the last 400m to go to sprint, I went to stand up and my quads were completely locked up, I could not stand up, faded off the back and coasted in. I went to get off the bike and I couldn't get off, my legs are so tight. Someone's wife in the parking lot with the other racers had to help me get off my bike. I can say that it was definitely a race I left it all in the course 😎. Still have the shirt from the race too 😊.
Yep! Haha that's exactly how I felt when I got done with this one. I basically collapsed against a brick wall and had to have Kim help me up. Glad I had the pack on.
@BIIIKES lol. I knew I had just heard someone saying those tires were good. It was from the guy who commented earlier...going to check them out for sure!
@@BIIIKES It is a great combo! The tires are some of the best ive com across so far. Im on year two running them and have two sets on two sets of wheels.
I run IRC Boken Plus 650b x 42. Since I use tubes, I'm usually set at 45-50 PSI. 5'3" and 175 lbs. I also have a wheelset with Pathfinder Pros in them (650b x 47), and I run 40-45 PSI in those.
My eyes! My eyes! 285 lbs., 2.8 x 29 @ 60 psi. A lot of bologna, but fast. The spread-out weight distribution seems to lessen the gravel-rattle and there's still some supple squish in the sidewalls.
I run about 40-42psi, and am 6’1, 210-215, I like just a little more pressure for mixed riding, which is 90% of what I do, never go lower than 35psi for anything.
I have started eating maple syrup (about 350 cal for 100 ml). Bought some 100 ml disposable food containers and fill them myself. So much better than gels (for me at least)
@@TysRides so frustrating. Regarding the maple syrup I guess it boils down to personal preference…and I personally do like maple syrup. It goes down real fast unlike a gel or gummies.
230lbs, canyon grail cf sl7 with roval terra cl wheels tried scwalbe rs 700x40 at 60psi but sidewalls too weak, tried panaracer gravelking sk 700x38 at 60 pail they were ok but now running Pirelli cinquicato (sp) mixed 700x40c with Cushcore gravel inserts between 40-60psi depending on terrain and weather. Faster bike Pinerello grevil f with hunt limitless aero 42mm vitorria airliner gravel inserts, vitorria Terrino dry 700x38c tnt (not tubeless, tan sidewall doesn’t have puncture protection) with 76 projects hi flow no core valves usually at 50psi but sometimes lower if terrain and weather is crap
Keep it up! Great vids
Thank you for watching!
These videos are very inspirational. Keep up the good work!

170 5’11” 32F/35R Maxxis Rambler 40c. Great race!
Thank you! I love how the Ramblers roll and feel. I actually got a set I'm going to put on when I wear these out.

Congrats! No flats or mechanicals, very cool.
Absolutely! Always a good day when there are no mechanicals.
6' 4" 225 and I'm running 38c Panaracer gravelking sk's at 50 psi here.
Hell yea! Another big guy riding. Love that shit!
Appreciate the shout out Ty! Awesome job as always, keep crushing those big gravel miles!
Thanks for saving my life at mile 90 and for the drone footage! That was AWESOME! I am now in the market for a drone lol

@@TysRides hockey is a religion in Canada. Lucky to have so many gravel races in the US. Too far for me to drive to most of them.
@goldenretriever6261 Yes. I am incredibly lucky. I live close to fantastic mountain bike trails and tons of local gravel races.

210-220, I run Pirelli Gravel H's, 40 rear 38 front. (40mm). Fun video as always, brotha
Appreciate it! I need to check out those tires. I've heard good things.
@@TysRides I've got a biggie race on Sunday (125 miles, 10.5k ft). I'll let you know how they do. 🤘 (unPAved Pennsylvania)

I run 45mm Pirelli Cinturato M up front at 30psi, H in the back at 35psi. I’m 150ish lbs.
I've heard the Pirellis are sick
I weigh 190. 39 rear and 37 front. Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H laced on a Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3 V wheel. This is pretty comfortable for me.
Right on! So I guess running 40 is pretty close to where I need to be. I haven't heard of these tires. Going to check them out.
Same exact setup (wheels, everything) haha. I just did a video on it.

@TysRides you the reason I dropped my Diverge for the Aspero. Kinda want to grab another. It was built for the heavy weights

@TysRides not really. I'm not a racer. I just enjoy graveling. The Aspero is just super aggressive for gravel for me. Its great on the road
