- Eli (Denzel Washington) walks into a would be trap by hijackers.
About The Book of Eli:
Some 30 years after the final war, a solitary man walks across the wasteland that was once America. A warrior not by choice but necessity, Eli (Denzel Washington) seeks only peace but, if challenged, will cut his attackers down before they realize their fatal mistake. It's not his life he guards so fiercely but his hope for the future; a hope he has carried and protected for 30 years and is determined to realize. Driven by this commitment and guided by his belief in something greater than himself, Eli does what he must to survive--and continue. Only one other man in this ruined world understands the power Eli holds, and is determined to make it his own: Carnegie (Gary Oldman), the self-appointed despot of a makeshift town of thieves and gunmen. Meanwhile, Carnegie's adopted daughter Solara (Mila Kunis) is fascinated by Eli for another reason: the glimpse he offers of what may exist beyond her stepfather's domain.

The way he threw his sword down after that last kill under the overpass out of frustration and disappointment for having to kill them was such a Denzel/character building thing to do.
I thought part of it was taking the head butt - having to get hit.
I wonder if he improved that.
@@jefffield3925 I'm sure he did!
But then it’s in his hand the next scene. Pretty bad
i wonder when he pick it up. the picking it up won't be that cool so they didn't show it
I always liked how big boy really didn't go down without a fight.
But did Eli have to kill that poor man 3:41 after he was on the ground and not resisting? Why couldn't he have let the poor man go?
He would've died from infection after he lost his hand since there aren't any antibiotics so he was doing him a favor by sparing him from suffering.
@@costco_pizza *Because he was a hijacker, a thief, a murderer and a rapist. In short, he had it coming just like all of those other animals. That's what they get. Save your sympathy.*
@@UncleRunt86 *He wasn't sparing him from anything. He was punishing him.*
*No, he was committed to the fight. Once he saw that he couldn't reason with them, that was it.*
The way he backed into the dark where he would have the advantage … 💀 🥀 🪦
Well, he’s blind…so
@@jooohan-i9o That’s exactly the point
@@haroldgeorge892it’s more then that. It didn’t just reduce their vision it enhanced his ability to hear. Pretty cool.
Old age and treachery. 😎
@@peterblezard8967 Double credit :) Could probably smell them better too.
Trying to lure him in with her tatas but not knowing he’s blind😂
omg..finally...someone recognizes he's blind... i use to think i was the only one ..lol
@@user-oc7du8lz3o they reveal hes blind at the end of the movie.
That was a question I had as soon as the movie ended was he blind or could he see and just knew how to read Braille
He still knew. He could intuit it.
@@donnywilliamson5807His external eyes were blind, but his 3rd eye was wide open.
Highly underrated movie and soundtrack.
Music on this seems to have inspired Equalizer music
I loved it 😍
The Road was also underrated
Atticus Ross
Lots of NIN in that one.
The only rated-R film I ever took my kids to see. After screening it myself, I felt that the message was very important... that evil exists, and that we all GET to choose whether to stand with it or against it. I say "get", because there is more power in that word than "have" or "can". It is our priceless BLESSING that we have free agency. That's why we are here.
Amen
Love at 0:35 where he says "I'm not going to hurt ya" the camera shows a shot of him walking straight, next to the straight road line with one foot infront of the other. Implying that Eli 'Walks a straight line' and would never hurt anything that doesn't get in his way. Details like that really shows the quality of this film.
Pretty cool that he backs up into the shade knowing he has an advantage there
its not the shade. its the acoustics under the bridge he uses.
@@gumborambo4540 so he is still right. Eli is blind, so in the dark he has an advantage. It is the shade he uses. It is also the acoustics, but the shade is important
@@samvandenboogaard263 Yo, spoilers dude.
It's what made the ending shocking.
@@samvandenboogaard263 Do you guys think a little bit of shade in the middle of the day makes everybody else blind or what? The shade has literally nothing to do with it.

This movie is SUCH a classic. It’s so re-watchable too
Denzel and Gary Oldman were quite a pair in this movie, along with Mila Kunis.
i always thought mila was latino, its so weird knowing shes fullblood ukraine
Gary Oldman is one of those actors that makes any movie he's in better. The man is such a wonderful actor, he'll make anything watchable.
@@Xylarxcode Gary is a Chameleon. Mostly you don't recognize him by his apereance. Only by his exeptional acting.
She was unnecessary. I would preferred if she saved the blind woman.
He gave him a nice big hug at the end....how sweet😅😅😅😅😅
Love that instead of th bad guys attacking one at a time like in most movies..they attack as a group ..and he still wipes them out...just like the bar scene
Never mess with the melee character
Watched this movie several times , great movie !
I love danzel he can play any role, good ,bad you name it❤
My man was playing no games from the start😂. I love that I warned you 👌💪💪💪💪
How was he your man?

Perhaps the Best Movie Denzel Washington made ... At lease my Favorite!!!!
no, that film happens to be Training Day...
That's just a crazy thing to say. Training Day, Philadelphia, Man on Fire, Crimson Tide, Malcolm X, Glory, Remember the Titans
I like the Equalizer movies
@@glennwatson3313 Fallen.

It's the whole Fallout vibe that resonates with me on a higher level.
Bro this movie is underrated.
"It may be the devil or it may be the Lord but you're gonna have to serve somebody" Bob Dylan
And he chose the devil.
great work done by denzel as always , he does characters like this one great as in the equaliser serie , suits denzel like a glove .
I liked in the beginning of the movie when he offered the starving mouse some food, saying, “it’s caaaaaaaaaat!”
@@larrypresnall5360 if i had not seen this scene i would have thought that that must have been one hell of a mouse , bt now i seen this scene so i know what you mean.
If he only had his stop watch. 20 seconds!
Bro is about as blind as Stevie wonder
And as badass as Daredevil.
I like how he cuts his hand off in a split second with a flick of his wrist.
I like how the gang leader accepts his fate. He knows it’s not personal, just the laws of the wasteland
Yep, no Wasteland Doctor at this stage is going to help: it was a mercy.
Denzel is so good in those movies
Denzel Washington is proud of America!Golden boy/actor which makes his every film wonderful!
Gotta hand it him, knows how to fight!
Literally "Hand" it to him😂
And then he bent her over the shopping cart...
and rode her all the way to Walmart.
That's like some "Gladiator" shit right there. Man knows how to take care of himself; with blood if perhaps, and more times than not 😜😜
I have still never watched this film. Only snippets on YT. I really should sit down and watch it from start to finish.
It's a great film, I'd definitely check it out.
The day is coming soon that we all will be in this situation
Not me. I don’t plan to stay alive in a world like this.
One does not need to wind up before attacking with a running chainsaw, one simply lunges forward. This is highly unrealistic. It's obvious this director has never killed anyone with a chainsaw.
I'd gladly take a machete against a chainsaw. Actual chainsaws will get tangled up and stop as soon as they hit fabric. It will hurt, yes, but chainsaws are perhaps the worst anti-zombie weapon imaginable. They're designed to cut wood, not people.
I should hope not. 😂
Don't take it too serious man it just a movie
Obviously you have! Bruuah!😂
Underrated comment
See that's the thing about the blind, their heightened other senses let them know you're there and what you're doing but they're not afraid because they can't see.
with these droughts and the opioid crisis were are almost there. landscape wise and the folks who wonder around
I have to say that the fighting scene at 2:50 is one of the best ever... EVER...
Denzel owned that one like he does all of them.
This is an amazing film - Denzel Washington knocks it out of the park in this role.
Whole time he was blind walking by faith
He's in shock.........I think he meant kill em
Mad Max was taking a lesson from the trap , and Batman was fighting Bane in the shadows
The Bible is my sword Amen
Denzel made an excellent Zatoichi.
The gang leader's actor plays a man in shock very well.
very underrated movie
gangster ask him too "who are you?" in Equalizer
I prefer the bar fight..when he say that bible verse before killing all of them
Whole movie was awesome!
He forgot to time himself with his watch
Did anyone else catch the Easter egg at 3:45? It totally blew my mind!
Who are you?
Indeed!
Terminator salvation: denzel style
"Take off the pack and put it on the ground..or DIE! "
Everyone asks him before they go Dead, WHO ARE YOU! #TEDDY#Equalizer
The way he threw his sword down after that last killl under the overpass ... made me think "why would you release your weapon?" ... doesn't make any sense at all ... unless he knew that there were no more threats around.
Its out of sheer disgust at the realisation of how unwanted the whole bloodletting was if only these idiots would let him be. The righteous man never seeks out bloodshed but when confronted has to see to it that the enemy is truly expunged from his existence.
Never realized this film is about the fall of Edom and their judgment.
I've probably re-watched this Denzel movie the most out of all of them. Second would be Manchurian Candidate
one of my fav Denzel movies!
I hope the series does this movie justice.
And down went the trumpers!
More like some soy Libbys. "Trumpers" would cherish the "good book" the same as Eli did!
😂😂
Cut that hand off so quickly..if i were with the pack, i'd run the other way lol
Send me more of the book of Eli

2:17 Eli slice the hijacker leader's hand off
Great movie!
Kiss him lol 😂
All "twist ending" films have been ruined by the internet.
Great scene but they messed up a little with the realism of this Apocalypse World.
The guy with the cut of hand has on brand NEW shoes. Look at 3:30 the rigid soles off his shoes are brand new, they are not even a little bit warn down.
This, for me, would have been Denzel's greatest role, but how someone like him could meet the end that he did makes no sense. And then the stupid girl putting on his gear was absolutely ridiculous. She had already proven she couldn't take care of herself. The ending of this movie was so bad, and I think racist that it probably belongs in the 60s they should have at least had an alternate version where he goes back for the woman and makes a life with her.
What? Nothing about the ending is racist.
@@bluntly8760
Your response is proof that if we don't know history, we are doomed to repeat it. That ending was very racist and typical of many films and TV shows from a very bad period of time for blacks in cinema.
@MusicAndTheScience what? 2010 was a bad period for blacks? Those like you who call everything racist undermine actual racism. You are goojg to be the boy who cried wolf. Nothing about the ending was racist.
Mad max was in australia around this time and this was usa. All wasteland
just a preview of things to come
U r so right. I thought I was the only one thinking this way
*Yeah, no.*
Îs not about frustrations....îs about be a mann..
Now then was he blind or not 😮
I just can't get past that Yoko Ono chick though
Kiss him! Love it.
And how he explains to his followers that he doesn't mean kiss him, he actually meant kill him, but he was going into shock from blood loss.
That woman needs seeing to.....
Bear.❤
I know that voice…. Same bad guy on
“Wind River” ? Yellowstone ?
I am sad I had to comment a critique, but I see some poor film making in two instances: first, the big shot of the landscape does not show a bridge/tunnel anywhere, yet in the main scpene there it is. Then, in such world, It would say is very unlikely after the hand being cut, the other gangers would pick a potentially deadly fight. If they are hijackers, they would know how to let the guy go and pick an easier target next time.
Not sure why he plays in movies like this.
It’s crazy at the end you find out it was Bruce Willis the whole movie. Good ole shamalan twist.

This is what Fallout should be like....

this was a good movie until i realized he had memorized a work of fiction then it was just bs
So it was bad cause you’re religious beliefs are different than what are in this movie
