Imagine going to the midnight release for these games to get them on DS.
I worked the midnight launches of World at War, MW2, Black Ops and MW3 and yeah people would wait in line for hours to get the DS or Wii version, I personally played Black Ops on Wii after work that night mainly because there was an inventory issue and was able to buy it at used price + employee discount even though the game was brand new.

Back in 2009, I was on a plane playing Call of Duty 4 on Nintendo DS with about 3 other random kids with also brought their Nintendo DS. We all connected and played multiplayer during the whole flight. It was one of my best childhood memories.
And the plane didn’t crash????
I used to like playing cod 5 on ds over wifi. Actually had a really good time. I enjoyed how different it was than the main games. Can only imagine your memories of playing on a plane are great.

I thought Prime Hunters was the only game that had this control screen. I don’t know how I thought that pretty much until this video. I don’t play FPS games too often and I especially didn’t back then. I had pretty much no interest in other FPS games so I couldn’t have known. Now that I’m thinking about it more, what other control scheme is possible on the DS? I guess you could use the dual buttons controls but why would you do that? Aiming with what’s basically a dpad has to suck.

Actually if you had COD on the DS and brought it to school, it was pretty cool. People would gather around you out of curiosity. I remember doing this twice, the first time was when Black Ops first released and people would watch me play in between classes or at recess. The second time was well afterwards, back in my freshmen year of High School. I got my phone taken away so I brought my old DS and my copy of Call of Duty Black Ops to keep myself busy because we weren't doing anything in particular in any of my classes for whatever reason. Nobody really cared except a couple who were just purely curious. One dude had a nostalgia trip because apparently his only gaming system was the DS and he played Call of Duty on it, but it ended up getting lost. I kind of felt bad after hearing that, not gonna lie...
At the age of 11 these were all my parents permitted me to play. No regrets.

Ahh, y'all certainly don't remember the time Nintendo was able to make normal joysticks (normal: lasting more then half a year of use) That's boring though and soo 2008, glad mine start drifting after 2 weeks of use, keeps starting up the console exciting. Don't even get me started on the fact I have new joycons to unbox every few months or so, like Christmas but better.

CoD back then did deserve that rating especially when you see actual gore in games like WaW where you can blast off a soldier's legs with a shotgun.
Multiplayer on these was amazing. Spent hours playing with neighborhood friends.
There were some fun out-of-map glitches on the MW for DS. If I remember correctly you just move against certain walls while crouch spamming.

@Trenchex556 I disagree because online multiplayer is a big factor in COD and doesn't really benefit off the switch when played as an handheld. I would only accept it if they axed the multiplayer content to focus solely on the singleplayer side of that game because you won't get much in handheld mode.

I used to own all of the Call of Duty DS games besides the first one. I remember them being a decent time. Zombies on Black Ops was okay and I used to play one on one multiplayer matches with a friend who also had the games. I eventually sold all of them but I'll always remember them being a quirky little series for the original DS.

I had some of these growing up and I still swear by them. There's definitely some amount of nostalgia to it, but touch-screen aiming (which I absolutely love), the British campaign in WaW and enemies that don't respawn are all features I missed when replaying CoD on the PS3.

Portables often spend a good chunk of their time not connected to the internet, especially when compared to their console and PC counterparts. That means there good portion of a portable's playtime where the in game store is worthless. That also means impulse buys become less reliable since even if a player sees something they might want, by the time they connect to the internet they may have rethought their impulsive decision.
This may not seem like too much of a big deal on the individual level, but on the scale of a huge AAA publisher that could add up to millions of potential microtransactions lost.
I would be so happy if we got cod on Switch. I don't think it's gonna happen tho. I wouldn't even mind an older port 👉👈

Modern warfare “2” on the DS was one my first FPS games ever. It’s actually pretty decent, when you’ve never played any other FPS games before
The DS certainly does feel like that system that came out before mobile gaming really took over.
And unfortunately a lot like those games it's hard to go back.
Not that there weren't good games that are still fun and awesome to play. It's just this series is aged like fine wine that was brewed in a sewer.

I remember when Modern Warfare 3 was out, I was in my final month of 8th grade and everyone in my school was playing it. I begged and begged and BEGGED my mom to let me buy it

The game is still booming. How? The servers are run by Activision, not Nintendo. As long as MW3's servers are up, the Wii version will stay, too. We have around 100-300 players daily.

Funfact about BO for the ds. Shotguns have somewhat tight spread and infinite range. If you find a shotgun in a map, use it. The ppsh is also very good because spraying and praying is easy with a drum mag. Ooh, also you have literally infinite throwing knives. Another reccomendation for playing this game is that you should use touch screen to look around if you like using automatic weapons. Button controls are easier for me, and the ppsh has low recoil compared to some weapons, so yeah good luck fellow people. This was legitimately my first cod game.

When I was young, I completed ALL of these (except MW2). I have the weirdest nostalgia for these games.
I played a lot of Call of Duty in my childhood, and I’ll be perfectly honest, Mobilized is absolutely iconic and I will forever cherish it.
Metroid Prime hunters was my favorite FPS game on the DS. Very solid campaign, and excellent online multiplayer for the time, with functionality for the rumble pack found in Metroid Prime pinball, and the Nintendo DS headset. It truly push that system to its limits. I even got 100% completion unlock the secret ending, which was at the time, badass. Felt like I accomplished something.

Metroid prime : Hunters was cool, and it was a fps on DS
MP : Hunters was ehh. The online MP sucked even more because of the abundance of hackers with action replay.
I logged thousands of hours in MPH, operated a forum called MPHTools, it was pretty much my highschool gaming years. I was 5 star online with thousands of games under my belt. Of course the latter years when people started using hacks, and the Noxus judicator glitch never being patched, online play waned. But it was fun when it lasted.
Plus I had the rumble pack from pinball for the OG DS, and the headset. It was the most accessories I've ever seen working at once on that console in a good game.
@@oOignignoktOo1 Reason #1 why i always played with Weavel. That mf would get me glitched and so i could survive those hackers, sometimes winning lol
Also i had friends who used Trace and with a good Sniping they would hit a headshot dealing with 200 damage, that was the other way to kill hackers
I played the MW3 on the 3DS and it was decent and playable.
CoD was always a game I liked to watch others play, but never really playing them myself.
I loved th classic COD games on DS, that was my childhood

I don't think 2009 COD games on the DS ever costed 60usd like Switch games. Games like Doom on the Switch don't really do great. There's little demands for it. Casuals would just play PUBG or something on their phones.

Back in 2013 my cousin had a DS with nsmb and a call of duty and he lost it in our house. Now that i bought a 3ds i found it aswell and it is decent imo.
playing on a 3ds definitely improves the controls. The dpad feels way too janky. The joystick makes life much better
Man what a throwback. I used to play black ops DS all the time, because unlike all my friends who had Xbox I didn't have one yet. I'll never forget playing BOds multiplayer listening to all American rejects on my iPod classic back in middle school. It was actually quite fun. When my friends would talk about zombies I made the most cringe worthy mistake, I asked "which map? House? Temple? Office?" And they just looked at me puzzled and said "...uh kino DER toten?" Only afterward when I was able to save up money for an Xbox did I realize how far out of the ballpark the Ds version was. Not even in the parking lot. What a memory.
