    Long story short: Tuned or not WMI will only net you gains if the ECU is pulling timing (as a result of insufficient fuel octane/elevated intake temps) on the current map. Secondly the ratio of water to meth, nozzle size and position are all contributing factors as to how much gain you'll see.

      I think it also cleanses the intake runners and back of valves. So in theory it sould keep engine healthy for longer. No need to valve/intake polish when car is alot older.

      big wrong i have the same supra and i did no wmi ecu tune and i had with 70%30 watter/meth about 507 HP he probably installed the nozzle right after the temp sensor wich is wrong i did the same mistake

      @@DaFeLaTVso is the optimal setup to have a nozzle before the intake temp sensor plus in each of the runners above the intake valves? I saw another video where the guy only did intake runners as he believed doing it in the throttle body would leave some cylinders with uneven w-m flow

    Our customers have consistently seen over 20% minimum gain in HP with our meth system installed, and up to 45% gain on some cars.
    This video is a very good test. Well done.
    You'll generally have to tune or at least run 90% + methanol ratio to see gains without a tune.

    Cool experiment. Installing same kit on 3.5 Ecoboost ExSport. To assist my catch cans in keeping them valves clean. I have a Gen1 so GDI only no port injection. And come summer I don't wanna feel that power loss after a few minutes of having fun on the throttle. Those are gains enough for me. Will keep my 93 tune as is... For now.

    On a dyno, I lost 5 HP but the amount of heat released on the room was impressive. it definitely cools down things helping with longevity

    Huge I have a 97 cobra with 1.5l kenne bell blower no intercooler it made 410 rwhp on 9-psi boost and one small nozzle pre throttle body I then put it under the knife I fabricated a new inlet manifold going to the back of the blower and throttle body making flow go from 300 ish cam to a whopping 1000 cfm with no change it made 3psi more boost -‘d I put a huge nozzle under the blower at spray post rotors and another nozzle pre rotors also added another 2 psi smaller pully and hit 558 rwhp 550 TQ 14 psi 10.6-8 afr

    I ve tested and tuned a water méthanol injection on a stock Mazda rx7 fd3s 10years ago (with an apexi powerfc ecu for tuning) and the most impressive was the intake air temp, up to 70° degC without water meth, and Never over 52° degC with water meth. Auto inject was set over 7psi and thanks too this, we keep 20hp each Time we inject and cool the engine (no Real gain, but power was Always available). Other interesting fact on this wankle engine, with the water meth, we reach 120000 miles without rebuilt !! Same sort of result on 2jzgte. Finally, from my experience, you have a benefict with water meth on high powered engine, to cool down them. Thanks for this video !

    Interesting video. I was hoping for a good bit more gain. I had been planning on running Meth with no tune (for the meth) on my 435i. Tuning for meth makes me nervous. A clogged injector grenaded our Z32 when it was tuned for Meth. I figured that running no tune for the meth would be safer if it went out unexpectedly. But with 3hp gains, I think I will skip it all together. It is after all, a daily driven street car. Great video though. Keep em coming.

      If a car is tuned properly for boost and you're retarding timing based on IAT, then meth injection will absolutely add power because it will lower IATs, especially after heat soak has started or in hotter climates unless you already have a super efficient intercooler.

    I just bought me the AEM WMI kit, included with an aftermarket throttle pipe with a built in meth bung for my IS38 MK7 GTI! Yes, I have an aftermarket intercooler already, but with the extreme AZ heat, the car still heat soaks. The AEM WMI kit, accompanied with my custom tune that will be revised once the meth kit is installed, will provide the results I am looking for. LETS GOOOOOOOO!!!!

      @@illsmokq Sorry for the late response. Didn’t know you commented until I came across this video again.
      I’ve been running the AEM WMI kit with just distilled water, and it definitely has helped with my IAT’s in the summer AZ heat. Car doesn’t heat soak, and feels almost as quick as the wintertime.
      I haven’t done the meth tune yet because I’ve been chasing this hesitation/bucking on my car the entire time. I finally found out what it is, and will be doing my meth tune this month with my custom tuner. I’m currently about 350whp/410wtq on my MK7 GTI. I’m expecting to be close to the 400whp/420wtq range after the meth tune

    Do you have the IATs? An improvement there would solidify this as a worthwhile upgrade (without tune).

    I suspect that if you use/enable this system on really hot humid days, the net result is far better than not having it at all and dealing with the heat soak. So IOW, in a controlled climate such as this the gains aren’t as evident compared to a more realistic test in high heat/humid ambient temp

    Good video! 👍 I have a question. For the solenoid, one black wire goes to the brown/white and the other black wire goes to the yellow wire is that (arm switch 12v) in the instruction?

    It looked like you were heat soaking with the dropping power on the non water-meth runs and that seemed to be less on the runs with water-meth.

    Maybe the B58 is not the best engine for this experiment since it's a little more heat resistant with the water cooled charge air. Try that on a N55 and I'm pretty sure the positive effect will be much greater.

      This experiment was honestly just a fun “lets try it out” without a tune. People have this question and we gave it a shot. The car will be “tuned” for it soon using m1

    With the meth you probably cleaned all your timing corrections as well.... And thats more important than the small gains. Different story with a meth tune of course.

      It has a controller with a built in map sensor. You can adjust it to turn on at a certain boost level.

    Can a custom tune for meth be done through an email tune? Like I data log and send files to the tuner? Or it has to be a dyno tune? Also for an upgraded turbo you will need port injection with the meth right?

    My tuner won’t tune me with the water/meth after I bought it and installed the whole thing. Says the kits are too unreliable. Is it safe to run the 250cc nozzle after I get tuned? I was going to be running 1000cc but that’s out the window now. Not trying to gain more power. Just for cooling and detonation prevention.

      Running a small nozzle is very safe, especially if the car is not compensating for the fuel added by water meth system.

    Would have like to have seen this test done on a car without a tune. I would bet there would have been a loss of power on all 3 pulls with the meth.

    Sorry to tell u but u have fitted the internals of the nozzle wrong as the seal sits before the check valve not down with the filter it needs flipping the valve is flipped over wrong could stop the wmi working aem site has a diagram

    the difference is not measurable, the difference between runs will vary with heat soak etc, it is unclear whether the 3 hp is a gain.

    I’m yet to see if water really does have a cooling effect benefit over meth only
    According to science water does and can take up more heat energy than methanol but to be honest i have only see power drops from watermeth mixes
    And then if there’s going to be lower EGTs it obvious because it’s making less power than meth only , and while Meth only still helps enormously on octane and lower EGTs

    Tuning for meth isn’t dangerous if the fuel trims aren’t so much that if meth runs out the injectors couldn’t compensate to add fuel to maintain a good afr. If the trims get added back then all you get is rising IATs and then power will just go down. It’s only if you are spraying tons of meth or full M1 as a fuel supplement to the injector duty max that things get real hairy.

      There’s two aspects to meth injection. 1) when you start spraying and 2) when you’re spraying at full blast.
      7psi is where they start spraying the meth, 15psi is where it’s spraying full blast.

      well on Nordschleife which is 20 kms/ less than 10 minutes, ive used half a bottle (1,15 gallon) with 600cc nozzles.

    There's a reason guys run methanol instead of gas on their race cars, because not only can You run more timing than with gas, and engine runs much cooler but it adds power becahse of the additives and things in it. You should use actual meth race fuel such as VP m1 or m5, they are oxygenated which is basically oxygen, or an oxidizer that puts more oxygen into the engine similar to what nitrous does its an oxidizer that allows the engine to burn more fuel more fuel =more power..

      M5 is oxygenated
      M1 is not
      Altho methanol does inherently bring its own oxygen molecule too the party naturally, which is why you can run more fuel given the same amount of air.

    While I really like this video, I'm more interested in what meth can do for a car with no tune at all (i.e. "from the factory" tune) and no mods, other than the charge pipe.
