    Seaside garage has become my favourite CZcams channel! I have basically been interested in every single car/bike you have featured. Thank you for the videos.

    With the compression test it's important that the cylinders are close to each other rather than actually compression psi, as those aren't really that accurate, I vote for manual conversion 😄.

    In order to get more accurate results I’d recommend doing a valve adjustment first and testing through the injector opening. That said 300’s is pretty good and I think it’ll last a long time still. I have one that was run low on oil and compression is only in the 100’s yet it still runs and drives. These engines are amazing!

    Manual swap will be a awesome option, but i am pretty sure it will take to much time and you need the car for winter. Like you channel watching all you videos from the beginning, good job. Hilsen fra Canada 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰😊

    Try. 1/4 L moly. 1/4L diesel. 3L frituurolie. Mix. Run it in your engine leaving it running idle in the backyard for a few hours. It won’t cure the gearbox. But the engine will be a lot cleaner. Incl compression.
    Saw this on a vid of a fellow You tuber in US who only works in these merc’s. Some years ago.
    Cheers from NL.

    compression is ok. I think it seems lower because every compresion tester has a little bit different design of the fitting that screws in the head and it can lower the compression because it doesnt protrude inside the chamber the same as glow plug. I hope it makes sense :D

    That compression test although not 100% acurate it gave you the idea that the 300D engine is in good condition and that engine should easily do iver a million kilometers and it is probably one of best engines Mecedes Benz ever made obviously the most reliable and that is the most important thing in an engine not how much power it makes but also how much torque the engine makes and when maximum torque at what revs

    Typical w123 problem is valve adjustment. Slightly worn camshaft doesent mean anything...
    Many bad starting OM617 engines have been 100% fixed with valve adjustment.

    Please check valve clearance. Since there is no throttle plate, WOT is not necessary.

      Its not WOT... its the other way to avoid the pump firing :)

    Adjust the valves while you have the injector lines off, I should be straightforward and may improve milage.

    I think the other scale on the gauge is the good one, for about 22 bars.
    Manual 01-010 for OM 617.
    Normal compression 24-30 bars
    Minimum approx. 15
    Permissible difference between cylinders max. 3

    If u plan to change gearbox why not remove valve body and clean shuttle it’s obviously sticking as it slides along to change gears . If u have reverse then torque converter is good as more pressure is required for reverse band than forward gears . 😊

    Some good news. Hope you can find a gearbox. There's a guy in Wales who only deals in W123 models. He may have one although it's a bit far. His name is Mark Cosovich. I think he trades under W123 World now.

    If you get it running and MOT I will buy it off you for 35-40.000 Danish when you are done with driving it no problem, perhaps a bit more depending on your work.

    Great news the 617 is in good health.
    Manual swap would be more enjoyable to drive.
    Most were 4speeds but there was a 5 speed option as well?

    • @blattferenc9647
      @blattferenc9647 Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, but the 5 speed is very rare. It also rattles when driving at idle in 1st or 2db gear. (I have one on my om617 turbo)

    From a friends experience who had a worn camshaft, he'd adjust the valves clearances , the cam keeps wearing out...........but it wasn't only the cam! it was also the follower it was wearing out, until that snapped, part got spat out through the cam cover , and bits all over the inside of the head.
    Adjusting the clearances will only accelerate wear and put more metal shavings in your oil ......... i'd be more worried about the cam cap bearing surfaces and if other lobes and followers have the same issues, that's a lot of metal missing off that cam .

    • @blattferenc9647
      @blattferenc9647 Před 11 měsíci

      The OM617 has a full flow oil filter system. All the oil has to go trough the filter before it can go into the engine. That might have saved this engine.

  • @TheUltimate65
    @TheUltimate65 Před 11 měsíci

    There its maximum 10 % difrent betwin the highest and lowest , its the engine warm it up before the test, have you check the valve cleranse
    Alternative test its the leakdowntest, the you must remove the valve cover and turn the eningen in manuale way

  • @robhodder1687
    @robhodder1687 Před 11 měsíci

    Valve adjustment will make hardly any difference. If they were too big the noise would be unbearably loud. If on the tight side the only way they would have an effect is if they were preventing the balves closing and there would be zero compression.

  • @5Dale65
    @5Dale65 Před 11 měsíci

    Where is your shredder valve located at the tester? It should be at the end of the hose, however some cheap chinese testers have the valve near the gauge itself. Those are crap, they will lower the compression reading drastically.

    5:11 Can you even reach 400 PSI in a Mercedes-Benz S123 300TD where the compression ratio is 21 or 22:1?

    With a petrol engine i belive compression should be tested with WOT ( wide open throttle)

    Denken Sie das ein perfekter Selbstzünder über den Kolben und unter den Kolben (Helmhoz-Sterling-Sauberdieselgas) mit perfekten Kurbelgeneratorwellen dessen Laufbuchsen sich selbstdrehend antreiben besser im Wirkungsgrad sein kann als die Kombination Sollarmetadirekt-Kraftwerk-Stromnetz-Akku-Elektromotor?
    Do you think that a perfect self-igniter above and below the pistons (Helmhoz-Sterling clean diesel gas) with perfect crank-generator shafts whose liners turn themselves can have a higher efficiency than the combination Sollarmetadirectpowerplant-electricgrid-battery-electricmotor?

    Wenn bei einem Vorkammermotor die Vorkammer nicht mehr fest im Zylinderkopf sitzt, kann man versuchen, sie elektrolytisch zu fixieren.
    ❕〰➰〰❔
    If, in the case of a pre-chamber engine, the pre-chamber is no longer firmly seated in the cylinder head, you can try to fix it electrolytically.

    I'd have thought that an "engine rebuild" would be top to bottom, it seems whoever did the rebuild was doing more of a minor refurbish to deal with worn pistons & rings and other bottom-end parts, not doing the top end at the same time is a false economy really given there's visible wear, but, some people do such things, and it's others who have to fix it... :\

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  Před 11 měsíci

      yea I think its just a bottom end rebuild
