  • The Beatles are widely considered to be one of the best music bands of all time, if not the best. The Liverpool four were able to fulfill a dream of a generation thanks to the passion of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, who enlisted George Harrison and Ringo Starr for an extraordinary project. Each member of the band has their own personal tastes, regardless of the situation. What were John Lennon's top five favorite Beatles songs?

John Lennon was a singer, song writer, and performer. He was not a music critic. Some of the songs he did that he had low, or little regard for are some of my favorites. Songs like: Run For Your Life, And Your Bird Can Sing, and Hey Bulldog. Beatle songs that have a great, tight sound, and great singing parts, great backing vocals. Those are some of my favorites.

While Paul was writing "Hey Jude", the line "the moment you need is on your shoulder", Paul was going to throw it out. John told him that was the best line in the song. They worked well together. John and Paul were honest with each other. If they didn't like something in a song, they told each other. That's why they were brilliant.

I can understand why he chose these songs as his better ones. They are favorites of mine as well. I've heard him speak before about several of them. He tried so hard to express what he was really feeling in these songs, because he thought that's what true artists do. He didn't want to be just a poppy rock singer putting out lyrics that were only good for carrying a dance tune along. I'm sure that most of his fans understood this or felt it whether they knew it or not. That's why he was so beloved by his audience. Because they felt the same things within themselves and John gave voice to them.

I'd have to agree with the other guy. I think imagine was kind of unique and pretty good. What do you think comparing that with a pre 1967 song?
What other group had all 4 members write a number song with the Beatles or post Beatles? Yep, even Ringo with some help from George

I notice you didn't mention George who was an unrecognized genius at that time. After the Beatles broke up, George showed everyone what he was capable of.

My top ten Lennon songs in any order are; Imagine, A Day in the Life, Hey Bulldog, Accross the Universe, Girl, Help, Stawberry Fields, Norwegian Wood, In my Life, Give Peace a Chance and one extra; Cold Turkey. My list is Lennon entire Songs recordings not just with the Beatles! And maybe as the BEST; I'm the Walrus!!

But then again he praised 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' which he admits he wrote with Paul.

Paul introduced George to John. John had the right of first refusal. John had a band before Paul approached him. Paul didn't have a band. George Martin had The Beatles dump Pete Best. Martin approved Ringo. The notion that Paul put the band together isn't accurate.
