Welcome to outdoor cycling, your life will never be the same. Starting saving your pennies, it's an addicting hobby but it will make you healthier than ever. Also do yourself a favour and book a bike fit, you won't regret it. Especially if you are going to be riding long distances.
This is so interesting! I've never seen someone do Zwift first, and roadie cycling second! I look forward to seeing you do real life group rides one day!
I'm embracing new things. 😅
I've got London to Brighton in 3 weeks. Wish me luck. 🤞🙏
Watching you ride around like a little kid who just got their training wheels off put such a smile on my face!
My wife and I got bikes almost two years ago thinking we'd do a casual 10 mile ride along the river trail every 2-3 weeks. What happened, though, is I caught the cycling bug. I got a turbo trainer last year to get me through the winter, but it's just not the same. It can't match the sense of freedom or the sense of speed, and I find myself fixated on how much time I have left in my workout whereas my mind wanders endlessly on the road.
Get a bike fit if you can afford it, but if not, watching some different pro bike fitter dos and don'ts videos and being in tune with how your body feels can go a long way.
I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for watching and the tips.
😂😂😂. Great video! Glad to see your daughter out riding with you. Yes please get a helmet asap. Also two points for your next ride.
1. Use the big ring up front. You’re spinning out cuz you’re in the smaller gear up front for climbing. Whatever side you’re using to shift use the opposite hand break to shift into the bigger ring.
2. Lower your seat. You should be able to put the heel of either foot on the pedal and not feel over reached. Then adjust for comfort after that.
Thanks for the tips.
🙏🙌
I just built my new bike yesterday and rode it for the first time today! Great feeling.
Nice one. Good luck out there. 🙌
You won’t be disappointed. I have two Ribbles in my stable, a new Endurance TI that I bought for winter rides and a CGR SL that is a few years old now and could do with a few upgrades. Happy riding 👍
Nothing better than a new bike👍 have fun
Cheers. 🤞
I like you beeing you and not pretending to be a Pro :) Congratulations on the new bike! Have a lot of fun!
Thanks. Im pleased. 🙏🙌
Congrats on the bike! Perfect time to get one as well. Now get ready for a ton of accessories that you'll want to add.
My biggest tip, get Garmin varia to pair with your bike head unit computer, it's a backlight with included radar that warms you of incoming cars behind you so you'll never have to look back again.
But before the mass of upgrades, go out, enjoy yourself, and reap the joys of your hard work inside on the trainer!
Thanks for the tip. Pleased you enjoyed the vid. 🙌
So excited for you man!
Thanks 🙌
Good choice mate.. I love my Ribble road bike. Had it 10 years now and it's still rides beautifully. British Brand too. 👏
IMPORTANT: at 9:30 the part you weren’t sure the name of is the stem. When you spun it around and retightened everything what was the order? The stem cover should tightened first to compress the column(stem should be a bit loose at this point). Then tighten the bolts holding the stem to the steerer tube. If you do it in reverse, the stack may be loose and you could have a catastrophic failure at speed. Reach out if you have questions and be safe.
And yes Ripple installed the stem oriented backwards (le sigh)
I'll have to check and confirm. Thanks for the tip. 👍
You’ll love that bike, I have had a Ribble CGR for 5 years, with big tyres and disc brakes you’ll have a lot of fun, plus it’s comfortable. A couple things I’d advise buying, get a decent set of Allen keys, the Wera ones that can be found on Amazon will last years, I’d also get a torque wrench, it will help tighten bolts to the correct torque (tightness) so you ensure bolts are tight enough for safety so nothing slips, but you don’t risk damaging the frame, components or breaking a bolt. Once you start doing your own bike maintenance a little more you’ll get the feel, but get a torque wrench to start with
Thanks. I appreciate the comment and I'll look for a torque wrench. I've got a multi tool already. 👍🛠️
Specially for carbon fibre.
Good choice in buying a Ribble (from a ribble owner 😃) i would defiantly advise a bike fit, you can do more damage to yourself on riding a bike thats not set up properly, all the best out on the road, you`ll love it
Nice one mate. Ur going to love it. 🤙🏼
Welcome to the endless rabbit hole of road bike cycling, gonna be an expensive journey but worth every penny 😅
this is most legendary video ever - you'll look back on this and laugh in 3 months time !
I laugh at it now and it's not even a week old.
Welcome to the crazy world of cycling Ryan - so many great adventures ahead for you.
Congratulations on the new bike. I also have a Ribble, you wont be disappointed
Welcome to outdoor cycling Ryan!!!
You’ll love it (if it’s sunny)
Congrats on the money pit lol You'll love it!
this is the bike im looking at. awesome
Can't wait for the biking videos. Ride On.
Insta x4 is the camera for road cycling, coupled with some hunt road wheels to make your bike more versatile!
Congrats on the new bike Ryan and great choice! The CGR is a great all-rounder. Another cracking video mate, those two movie clips you added did make me chuckle 👌 Enjoy the great weather we are having at the moment on your new bike.
Cheers Mark. Getting a comment from a real lvl 100 Zwifter should give me an achievement or something. Congrats on your win vid yesterday. 🙌🎉
Brilliant 👌🏻
I would recommend SPD pedals.
Great video!! Loved the part with the handlebars and stem 😂 you will love the outdoor bike life!!
Highly recommend a cycling computer and some power meter pedals. This will let you know your watts like zwift so you can pace your ride and train better.
Look forward to more of these videos!!
Thanks! Those handle bars were a nightmare. 🙏👍🤣
Great to see the fun interaction between you and your daughter. Enjoy! As a rider of all sorts of bikes over a lot of years I'd recommend staying away from any kind of clip in pedal.
I don't believe there's any significant power gain and the comfort and convenience of a decent mtb flat pedal with an mtb shoe is worth having. After a lot of experimenting that's what I use on my gravel bike.
Congrats on becoming a roadie! Next up i need to hear that hub sound. New bike day is always a great day. Biggest suprise for me was the weather to be honest
Welcome to the gang Ryan you'll never look back ,top tip buy
your self a really good pair of bib shorts to protect your crown jewels😉 love your enthusiasm 😎
Nothing beats new bike day!! I’ve never really heard a bad word about Ribble although never had one myself
Rrrribble!
WOOHOO!!!!
Oh, my goodness, Ryan, this vid is comedy gold. "That's not a knife. This is a knife". At this point, I'm rolling on the floor. "I've got some kind of wrench here". Oh, my Lord. 🤣🤣🤣 Please, please, please, find a bike shop and get a fit. I know you said, you're not close to a shop, but a good shop is worth the search.
Let's see how long before Ryan upgrades his wheels and tyres 🤣
So cool, mate. It seems like you like the bike, which is great to see. You chose well here. Really happy for you.
Thank you Lee. I love it. 🙌
Yeah baby! 🎉 Welcome to the Ribble gang. I've got a Ribble Gravel AL and I love it. Had it a year now and it's been a super all round bike for me. I can ride off road across the fields, but it's still fast enough on the road and I can use it for cycle touring. I loves it! 😁😎🚴♀️
That's great to hear. I'm pleased everyone likes it. I'm chuffed with it.
Start saving your pennies now mate you've now entered the extremely addictive outdoor cycling world lol congrats on the new bike
New bike day 👍
Ryan, now you're a cyclist 😊 you'll soon have a phone gallery full of bikes and components 😂.
There's loads of fit videos, best thing is to replicate the watt bike measurements. This bike will do lots for you, enjoy! if you get yourself a 2nd set of wheels with road tyres you've covered a vast amount of riding, basically two bikes for the price of one ✅
Haha.. great video!!! I love it :I
Thank you. I appreciate the comment. 🙏🙌
Congratulations on new bike day! Will be interested to hear your thoughts on ‘bike fit’ and ‘zwift fit’ - I find that a period of regular zwift racing makes the road easier, but the first zwift race after a while on road is very challenging!
Ride safe 🎉
Love my Ribble bike, good choice.
🙌
Been waiting for this! Knew it would be a Ribble, my Ribble is 10 years old and its still brilliant. See you in the hills Ryan. (sorry to comment on this but you look totally different in those old vids, some transformation!)
Thanks Chris. 🙌
Great purchase! sooner or later the pure roadbike will move in. :) it is alway m+1
Nice bike 😊
Thanks Jackie. 🙏👍
Happy new bike day! Great choice on the Ribble CGR.
Best advice before you do the London to Brighton would be to make sure that saddle agrees with you. Definitely wouldn't want it "cutting you in half" as you put it!
Also, i know you don't have time for a bike fit, but give MyVeloFit a look as it's an online AI-powered analysis that's useful for getting your setup in the right ballpark.
Okay so, now you’re hooked, let me save you some time while you think about assioma pedals: tpu tubes, conti tyres, wahoo/garmin computer, varia radar, day running lights for the front, saddle bag, co2/electric pump to go and a regular one for the garage ;)
Excellent Ryan, good choice. I have two Ribbles, the Audax and the SLe, both brilliant bikes. Knowing you I suspect you'll want to do your own bike maintainance, so I would get a few basic tools such as an allen key and tyre clinchers and a pump plus some inner tubes. I would also recommend borrowing a torque wrench to check everything is set to correct tightness. It's the best feeling in the world to ride the new bike for the first time!....Enjoy!!!!
Will do. Thanks for the tips. 👌👍🛠️
this bike looks dope, hope to see more outdoor cycling videos or live stream
Sweet ride! I hope you get many many miles/km on it!💪🏼💪🏼👊🏼👊🏼😁😁🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Your edits are always on point !🙌🙌
Thank you. 🙏🙌 I'm pleased you enjoyed the video.
Nice to see you buying an outdoor bike welcome to our community. I would recommend a bikefit because otherwise the chances of discomfort are so high. It changed my ride experience. (And the cadges are very dangerous I would take them off and just ride with flat pedals)
Amazing! Like so many have said bike fit, and they’ll help set you up for the riding you will do. CZcams bike fit ended me with saddle too low… knee pain central 😂
Ribbles are great bikes. I hope you have many happy miles on it 👌
I'm pleased everyone likes it. I feel vindicated.. 😅🛠️ Thanks Stu.
Welll at least you had go lad well done is it 2 x 10 clipless are so simple plus to learn to get on and out off them lean against the wall and set them lose
A red one! Great choice.
It's electric orange. I think my colour grading made it red. 😅
@@RyanCondon
Either way. That's quite an aggressive saddle height there Ryan. I know you're almost Cat C now, but still. A bit more like your Watt bike set up to start with otherwise you'll pay for it!
Enjoy. Nice it's arrival coincides with some much longed for weather.
Next you will ne chasing KOMs ,studing the wind and temperature and gradients and be glued to Strava to see if you can nab that Age Group KOM, Road cycling turned me into a crazy cat and boy, Ive had some great experiences. And then there's Zwift. Of you have time and health... Thrash It!!
Congrats Ryan. Nice bike! 🙌 Please get a mate to help you out 🙏 Will recomend to turn the stem ( metal thingy that connects handlebars to bike) uppside down. You will get a more relaxed riding position on your bike. You will love your bike ❤
How strange. Nearly exactly a year ago, I signed up to London2Brighton without ever owning a bike, a month later I ordered... Yes you guessed it, a Ribble Road Bike. I absolutely love it, have become obsessed with the sport, and spend pretty much all of my excess income on upgrades. Getting into cycling has quite literally changed my life (for the better), and my Ribble has been at the centre of that. Will be doing my first full distance Ironman this summer on the bike, and the bike is certainly standing up to the challenge. Enjoy it mate, welcome to the crazy, enjoyable, expensive, and exhilarating world of cycling 😊
Ironman is the dream for me. Congrats on your achievements. Looking forward to getting into the sport too.
now find a local bike club and start doing the group rides, you will love it
Have you went for SPD (MTB) cleats and peddles? Worth looking at some bike fit videos for saddle height too.
ps, you made a very good decision buying this bike, tell the truth within a year the weight you can cane off a bike like this will shock you. Enjoy and the best of luck.
I can’t lie watching you build that ribble was funny as, well done though 😂👍
Lol thanks 😅
Finally. 🎉get yourself some spare inner tubes instead of relying on doing a road side repair. Practice stationary when you use your cleats falling over is a given 😂
I like to carry both
Get yourself some bottle cages you will defo need for your 60 mile ride :)
Brilliant, I picked the bike because I liked the name. 😂
Rrribbbble!
Great choice of bike! I have the same one except the shimano 105 groupset and have also recently taken delivery of the electric version to help me with the horrendous hills we have around here. Looking foward to seeing some outdoor riding vidoes!
Thanks! I'm pleased I made a good choice. 🙌
@@RyanCondon I did a 60 mile off road/gravel sportive a few weeks back on my cgr with 5000ft of climbing and the only weak point was my legs and cardio! The bike handled it like a champ. I must admit, the CGR AL-E I've just bought has really changed the game for me though. The motor just helps take the bite out of the big hills and allows you to ride much further than you otherwise would.
Nice ! Ribble is a great bike brand. You really should look at getting fitted. It will be well worth the time and get you going with the least amount of troubles. I belie e there are fitters that will do one remotely with you.
Gravel was a heavy shout u can Always wat get a set of road wheels to swap over
Great purchase. You did make me giggle with the mechanical deliberations. You’ll get there. Much better these days with CZcams to answer any questions. My only comment is make sure the compression cap is sufficiently torqued (with the stem fully undone) so the headset doesn’t rattle/rock if you apply the brakes and rock the bike back and forth… but not too torqued that you cannot turn the bars. Then do up stem bolts. Maybe search for “safety check bolts road cycle” Looking good though! Enjoy it!!
Thanks for the tips. I'll check it out.
Make sure your headset is properly tight (adjust threadless headset should be keywords to search on) to prevent permanent damage to fork or frame.
You can probably remove the toe cages from those pedals. I wouldn't bother with cleats for now, they will call cause you to fall at least once.
Have fun Ryan might aswel enjoy the sunshine while its here :) if your local to Gravesend give me a shout may be able to help with the bike adjustments and stuff :)
Happy new bike day 🎉. Now that I’ve stopped shouting STEM at my phone, looking good just waiting for the fun and games with cleats. If and when you forget, panic and fall off with your foot stuck do try and fall towards the verge or pavement!!! I think with shimano you can adjust the tension so clipping in or out is easier, but whilst you are stationary leant up against a wall practice clipping in and out. It’s very unpleasant falling off cos of this so if doing some silly drills in your garage helps you avoid it then it’s worth it. Now that you have a bike, let the spending begin! Computer, bottles, cages, helmet, jacket the list goes on and on 🫣👍
Thanks Alan, anythings got to be easier than these cages. I've started the spending already. 🙈
I reckon you be audax very soon . Lovely bike 👍👍
Whats your start time? I am at 6am would be great to get a pic with your at the start. Word of warning buy some flat pedals to start with and flat shoes until you get used to cleats and clipping in. The first 10 miles is stop start with all the traffic and lights you have to stop at and all the cyclist around you will do some strange things like stop in front of you for no reason and unclipping if it is not automatic by then you will be worrying about unclipping and will have to look down to clip back in which is hazardous to say the least with everyone around you. Flats are not a hinderance over cleats and its a fun day so stay safe my friend. If you are determined to go cleats then get the Look Keo EASY pedals and the grey cleats for your cycling shoes. These are super easy to get out of with a twist of your dominant foot. Great for beginners and learning. Fit the cleats all the way back and all the way to the inside of the shoe to give you a wider more stable position and dont forget to grease the cleat screws threads into the shoes. Best of luck. its a great day. Invest in a seat cover if you suffer after an hour in the saddle. Much easier then indoors though.
Thanks for the tips. Good luck on the day. 🤞🙏🙌
Hi Ryan - top video (I've only got as far as you turning the stem the right way round). If you don't want to go far for a bike fit then Cycle Evolution (Colchester) do them, and I think Schils (Marks Tey) do as well. Not sure what method Schils use. It can feel like a lot of money to spend but if you're doing the London-Brighton, and haven't been riding IRL for long I think it would be money well spent to avoid cycling destroying you again!
I think this video may be my future. I also ride on Zwift, (I bought a Wahoo Kickr and really cheap road bike specifically for Zwift as a permanent indoor set-up), but I have never ridden outside before. Right now I’m so overweight I don’t feel comfortable outside, and the idea of riding on the road with cars speeding past horrifies me… but in a few months, next year, who knows?!
That's exactly how I feel now. Good luck on Zwift. Maybe see you in Watopia. 🙌
Awesome bike, hero dad. Gotta take points of for no helmet. Also, should have taillight at all times.
You could use a set of flats for a year or two. Also, be sure to get two hole when you go SPD.
Don't forget bottle cages too! You should be able to measure your wattbike to set up your road bike. Cages are worse than cleats, btw
Cheers Jessica. Those cages are awful. I've got cleats now so that'll be in next vid. 👍
Those cage pedals are worse than cleats, impossible to get your feet in 😂 I had the same and quickly swapped to SPD when I got my first bike in 20 years last year! Great video 👍🏼
What time do you start L2B? Want to know if I’ll see you along route at some point 😅👌🏼
Next weeks are time to look at sattle position and stem lenght. 😊
So through gut instinct isn't cutting it for you?
Can I just share some advice on pedals if you ever by the ones that you need to clip
Into. Get Shimano. There’s 3 tiers. 105(average), Ultegra(middle) and Dura Ace(pro). I got Keo peddles when I first hit the road and they destroyed my feet. The Keo peddles didn’t support the sole of my feet correctly and were giving me insane nerve pain(burning sensation). As soon as I got the Ultegra Shimano peddles I’ve not had a problem since. I’m 6ft, 14 stone and size 10 shoe which is similar to you. Great choice to use your current peddles that just support your shoes.
Also go a size higher when you buy cycling shoes. I’m a size 10 and I get a size 11. I’ve got DMT shoes. Super light and made from soft materials.
Thanks for the Tip. I've bought Shimano SPD pedals. I'm going to use the shoes I use for Zwifting for now.
@@RyanCondon perfect
What a fun video! I'd get rid of the stupid foot cages and use the flat pedals. They're not really benefiting you at all and create much more risk of falling over when starting and stopping. Eventually sure, get some cleats if you want. But there's really no rush, you could ride flat pedals for years if you want.
Also if you get keen and go for a big ride thing about what's gonna happen if you get a flat. It is very likely to happen at some point, and walking 10 miles takes a bloody long time. A good bike shop will show you how to change a flat and sell you the equipment if you need, or just youtube research it I guess.
I have a repair kit plus I need to practice as I have London 2 Brighton in 3 weeks.
get rid of them toe cage pedals and either get flats with decent pins / shoes, or get some clipless pedals / shoes. Other then that welcome to the real world bike club Ryan!
The cagepedals Look Like a deathtrap 😮 nice bike …nice Vid 👍
They are. Terrible invention.
how have you signed up for a tave before riding outdoor the first time? 😅😅 wow
Nice bike, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. A few pointers for you.
I strongly recommend getting a bike fit. Riding for 1 or 2 hours you don't notice small imperfection but if your riding for 4hrs+ the small niggles become big niggles. Good cycling shorts are a must as is having the right saddle for you.
Cleats. You WILL fall over at some point. Loosen the tension on the pedals to start with. You can always tighten them up once your used to them. Get in the habit of flicking your ankle out of the bindings whenever you are about to stop.
Finally, this is where you realise Zwift has been lying to you. At 15st you can not ride up a 10% climb doing 200w. You need to do 350w just to keep moving. 😂😂
If he has his trainer difficultly set to max and same gearing on outdoor bike it should feel the same power is power my Zwift feels identical to outside climbs
200 watts uphill. I wish. Speed and power all the way. 🤣
Thanks for the tips.
@@L-dw5sx yes but you can't fall off on zwift. Zwift let's you ride up the Alpe doing 1w/kg doing less than 5kph. Try that on a 10% gradient in real life.
@@nikblyth8047 this is true, been so long since I rode outside I forget about balance Zwift for me tired of almost being killed by cars he’s got all the bullying and terrifying close passes to look forward to
Just measure your wattbike and set it up somewhere near
also did you check air pressure before the first ride? looks so low 😅
Felt alright. 😅
I’m so coming off this thing 😂😂😂. Get rid of those straps on the pedals and get some flat ones or some mountain bike clip in
I've got SPD pedals now. I did say the toe cages were a temp measure.
We could almost be twins both on a weight loss journey both were over 115kg now both around 97kg both have a watt bike and now both have a Ribble bike. 😂👍
Saying I was over 115kg is like saying the ocean is a little bit wet. 😅 I'm pleased you're on the journey. Good luck. 👍
Six months later: I bought this aero road bike with aero wheels weighing only 6,9 kg for only 10000 pounds. It was a bargain. 😂
2:22 is that a new gaming PC you bought as well for different platforms? 😉
It was a gaming PC, one I built years ago. I dismantled it and built a better one. My daughter then took it for herself. 😅
Now get ready to spend a ton of money on kit and accessories 😂😂😢
Ryan this is going to sound bat s*it crazy but I will ask anyway. Your journey is inspirational, I suspect that you are touching many lives and that you are an overwhelming positive force for many people. That is something to be proud of. My journey is less inspiring but does have some parallels. I was never really in to the Zwift stuff but I am all in on the cycling stuff. I am heading to Annecy in June for some Alpine cycling. Flying from Gatwick to Geneva and then picking up a hire car with rental bikes. If you can get to Geneva we will provide the accommodation and show you some epic climbs that will make your soul sing. Let me know if you are up for some crazy shizz and I can ping you the details. Keep up the brilliant work, you will probably never know how many people you have helped.
Hey Gallo. I really appreciate the compliment and the offer. I've got several events now planned throughout the year, 3 in June. Good luck on your trip. Sounds amazing. 👌🙌😃
Do an AI bike fit. Its fast and cheap and gets you pretty close to prrfect fit. My Velo Fit or Bike Fast Fit are both good.
That's a great idea. Never realised this was a thing. 👌
Nice bike buddy 👍
Hey if you fancy it come down and stay in S Wales we go out for a few rides, cracking part of the country and amazing riding think Hills 😉
More than welcome to get hold of me privately to arrange “Ride on!”
Thanks for the offer, very kind of you but I've got events pretty much every weekend planned now. Ride on. 👍 I appreciate it though.
Little did she know that there goes her college tuition for a couple of n+1 bikes in the next years.
When I got my new bike delivered, I swear the box and packaging weighed as much as the bike itself. Now I'm having second thoughts and thinking I should have gotten a gravel bike 😂
They are so light.
A lot of cycling CZcamsrs use mouth mounts for. Filming
