Lyrics:
Well alright,
no stars tonight
The moon must hide
can't bear to see my face
So many moons have passed
So many suns gone down
Too much blood under the bridge
Too many worlds turned upside down
The skies were pure and the fields were green
The fading summer, sixteen-seventeen
The first time I ever drew blood
She was such a beautiful and innocent child
She never knew my soul was cursed for good
I fought to overcome my thirst I thought I could
But when I kissed her lips then I had no control
And the furies all ran wild
And when I grasped for life
I always killed the things for which I yearned
I wish to be a flame and reduce to ashes
But I have never burned
I long to fly in total freedom
and yet these chains keep dragging me down
I want to be an angel or the devil himself
But I am nothing but a creature longing for things I cant have
And the split goes through my very soul
It´s a wound that never mends
Our desires are elusive
And the hunger never ends
When the world has drawn its final breath
And Extinguished all the light
There´ll be nothing left
But a lifeless wasteland
And an endless appetite
Nothing left but a soundless heartbeat
And a ruthless appetite
The preachers daughter let me in her room
In seventeen thirty-two, to love me was her doom
With her silken blood I wrote a poem of love
Upon her ivory skin
And the bashful page of Napoleon the Great
In eighteen hundred thirteen he stood at the gate
When I recall his body I cant help but think
To consume him was a sin
So many victims washing on the shores
an ocean of pure tears
So many pleas for mercy, howls of pain
Intoxicating fears
I used my body just like a bandage
I used their bodies just like a wound
And Ill never know where they disappeared
But I can see them rising up out my memories now
Just like the demons rising up from a tomb!
And there is no way ever to apologize,
repent or make amends
No release and no redemption
The hunger never ends
There are those who believe in science
And those who believe in art
There are those who believe in power and wealth
Or love and matters of the heart
There are those who believe in various gods
In nations, and knowledge
In hell and in heaven
The powers of darkness
The assumption of the light
But I believe in just one god
That of endless and insatiable
Immoral and destructible
And all consuming appetite
There is a prediction that I now will make
And Im sure it will be right:
When the next millennium finally comes
The god most worshiped in this world
Will be the god of appetite - Zábava
His voice is like velvet.
Gone too soon :(
RIP Steve Barton
He lived it....thats why he was so good....
Five people (the dislikes) are completely ignorant to what true poetry and art are. This song is one of the most lyrically beautiful songs I've heard in a while.
A Poetic Vampire Indeed. I feel the same 💙
Not the song, but Steve Barton did the best job, he made Krolock as he was and is remembered, he make the best Krolock and no one could replace him, not in the german nor in the english version. I'm so sad that I haven't seen him live, only got the video and the cd backtimes. Thanks to his acting and voice I liked dance of the vampires, now it's no where near what I'd liked :(
I was so sad as I heard about his death...
5 people know the German lyrics are superior ;)
@@DocDewrill Both are fine if sung from the one and only.
@@n1mandim honestly pissed they translated it to appetite instead on greed
I am so jelous of anyone who got to work with him on stage! All the Sarah's and Christine's and the many others have all been blessed to work with him ~Rest In Peace, Steve Barton the true Angel of Music~
3:24 😭 MAGNIFICENT VOICE AHHH!!!
The late great Steve Barton always had a great voice
Thats so emotional...
Steve is the best.. he will always be!
Sheer perfection.
I wish I could travel back in time to save Steve Barton's life
The lyrics are so powerful. Beautiful. Work of art. I feel it in my soul. In my very being..in every fiber, every atom, everything that makes me theoretically and scientifically. "I believe in just one god... All consuming appetite." Beautiful.
Zoe, I'm right there with you. In both languages, just absolute poetry. The weakest flaws of humanity, alongside the beautiful soaring heights of longing and ambition. The absolute agony of regret. This song of Steve's is IMHO his masterpiece. There will never be another Von Krolok, only stand-ins
man his voice is beautiful!
GOAT
Steve Bartons Stimme ist sooo berührend! Wundervoll! R.I.P., Steve!
I would give everything that I own for a video, and preferably one of high quality, of him performing this masterpiece.
"I used my body like a bandage, I used her body like a wound"... so great...
I used THEIR bodies....isnt it?NOt one life...many.
@@n1mand in English it cannot be 'their'. Makes no sense ! Are you German ??
@@handynutzerin6466 It's the original "Meatloaf - Objects in the Rear View Mirror" by Jim Steinman is the music an' those lyrics, Meatloaf sings that piece of paradise.
@@aceto1900 and what??
@@handynutzerin6466 just to give you theboroginal masterpiece for you to listen.
JailbreakJezie: It's a Jim Steinman song, he wrote it for meatloaf. The entire Tanz det Vampire is built on Jim Steinmans songs.
His power... his power... ooooh, his power....
Someone's gone power hungry
both versions are epic i always get "gänsehaut" ^^
i love to hear steve burton singing
Both versions, the german and the english, are wonderful. Many lyrics in the english one are more soulful than in the german. Especially the passages when he sings from the beginning of his "curse"
Jesus Christ Every time that I heard this I think that I'm going to faint!...He's so..so..oh Well I guess that I'll never get sick of him..He's the most wonderful singer, my favorite...Bravo!
I've love the German version it's wonderful too... (sight) He's so intense!
Drew Sarich and Steve Barton are the best Count Von Krolock's ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Kevin Tarte...
Tarte is an outstanding Krolock!
Drew is the best one
Rebecca Mackey Kevin Tarte is my favorite Von Krolock
I couldn't agree more.... ;-)
I just discovered this musical (so glad I did) and this song just hit me like a truck, especially the last line because damn I’m shook
This song is beautiful
Jim Steinman used it for Tanz Der Vampire they just changed the lyrics around. But yes it is the same song as "Objects in the Rear View Mirror"
So magical and wonderful voice. This with Meatloaf (Objects in the rear´viewmirror) is awesome but this version makes me almost cry and my skin i almost creeping out of my body.
I think they did a great job with translating this into English! I do prefer the more poetic description of the blood drawing they had in the German version, which reflects more the interpretation of vampires as a metaphor for greed among others in addition to the literal meaning (e.g. the literal translation of the song’s name would be Insatiable Greed and not Endless Appetite, and the descriptions of his earlier kills are a little more euphemized as if he is reluctant to acknowledge just how dreadful his deeds were). But I guess that’s personal preference.
:-) Yes! The translation was the work of Dr. Michael Kunze! (Meanwhile DDr. Kunze, German 'Libretto-Man' of the Musical 'Dance of the vampires'.)
Ph. Sachs
God if only the rest of the play had been translated/localized with the same quality of Unstillbare Gier
As far as translations go, personally, I think this is one of the better ones. Not really fond of the fact that they translated it to "endless appetite" (it sounds rather comedic, especially compared to "the insatiable greed," which I think is the literal translation). Other than that, I thought the English lyrics were pretty good.
And, gosh, Steve Barton was legendary!
Just to be clear these are the original lyrics by Jim Steinman . They were tranlated by Kunze for the Vienna production .
@@steenman69 Do you mean the lyrics were translated to German for the Vienna production and then back to English?
@@kexu5858 No, Jim wrote the lyrics in English first and those were pretty much used for Broadway, with a few changes, like the "God is dead...." verse was replaced, as american audiences can't handle that :)
@@steenman69 Wow I never knew that before, thanks for the fun fact. I really like this song both in German and English sang by Steve Barton. I haven't watched the full video of the Bway production, but from the comments below that video I can see that was not...good. I don't understand how can the Broadway version be such a failure when the Vienna production was so successful and Steve Barton won award
Ke Xu You can hear the original english lyrics here: soundcloud.com/soundregion/god-is-dead-tanz-der-vampire
The broadway version was a big joke. Literally.
I think, this is one of the few songs of the musical which sound in English as good as in German. Endless appetite and Total Eclipse of the heart. There are no words to describe this song...
The best Von Kroloc
Just one word: WOW!!!
Blood red moon tonight. Had to revisit this.
Thanks for the vid! Great song and an amazing singer ♥
Words have failed me...
I love it!
It is funny, that in the tranlation in to the english text some pieces are, that remember to the song "objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer then they are" but they have no relation to the german lyrics.
Same writer.
What do with all these feelings now?
owwww!!!!I LOVE STEVE BARTON!!!!
RIP Steve Barton.
sooooo geil!!°
Oh my f*cking God !! He's damn good. :)
Wow I didn't know an english one existed!

But thank you for your hard work writing this down. 🙃
Actually this is a Meat Loaf song originally, and some of the lyrics are re-used.
The Meat Loaf version is called Objects in a rear view mirror.
This is a kind of modern Gospel.
Steve sings it so awesome with so much power!
This version let me remember the original of MeatLoaf ;)
The german version is a little bit besser :P
Well, after delivering this seven minutes masterpiece I would also take a deep breath when I made it through 😂
cool
Ok People are doing my head in, The German version is the best. The problem with the english version is that they tried to make it a comedy thats why Jim Steinman wanted nothing to do with it really. Both Versions of this song are good but diffrent. This one is called Endless Appetite and the German vesion is called Die unstillbare gier (The Insatiable greed).
Can anyone make a Being Human US or UK video with this song? It is so Aidan and MItchel. Well, more Aidan. He has been a vampire since 1776, while Mitchel became a vampire in 1916. Since Aidan was a vampire for much longer, he has obviously fed on more people than Mitchel. And they both remember every victim, which ones cried, which ones begged, which ones fought back. Good men with evil natures.
Raoul? Is that you?
what was the instrumental song played in act 1 when the girls encounter the vampires
much better than the german version^^
I really enjoy each second I was allowed to listen to his voice live on diefferent stages.
I would appreciate it very much if you'll take the time to watch my tribute.
Amazing! Anyone know if I can buy these recordings on CD? or download?
Hi! You can download this recording and other English versions of the songs with Steve Barton on Jim Steinman's site for Tanz der Vampire jimsteinman.com/dotv/multimedia.html
wonderful song ♥
but i like it in Germna much better
in englisch also wonderful ♥
this almost sounds like meatloafs objects in the rear view mirror
That's because it basically is. Both Songs are from Jim Steinman. He adapted it for the musical.
Does anyone know where I can get this version of the song?
Where did you find this version? I would love a copy.
Where can I find the album complete?
What's the slamming sound at 6:12?
download it from yt? :D
Well, that A TAD bit over dramatic... but it's still pretty good.
@licht789: da bin i ganz deiner meinung...
@cloiemitzy the fearless vampire killers by polański :)
@Greseknoen I know some videos of him singing this song, but they are all in german...
Nur, weil du kein Englisch kannst.(;
@patrickhuntress1 In America?
Literally the same exact song as "Objects in the Rear View Mirror."
Honestly, while this isn't bad, Tanz der Vampire is much better in German.
I agree, but translation is never as good as the original text. :) Still, it is good, as long as it is sang by Steve Barton. :)
Well the orignial Songbook and story and is written in german. The first staging was in vienna in austria aswell in german.
Have you heard the polish version?
I agree, so much more beautiful.
What sounds dramatic and immense in German has a way of coming off dopey in English.
listen to the german version it is better you wanna cry when you hear it
search for "die unstillbare gier - jan ammann"
@licht789 ok^^
How do I get all these songs? I can't find them anywhere to download.
@Anjelica Snorcket Always looking. Thank you so much!
I love steve beaton but meatloaf version makes more sense to me mybe thats just because i've lived the song.
OK I'm not going to lie those who has seen this play German version, do you think this guy looks like snape from harry potter
Okay, people! How old is this Musical?
1997 based on a movie thats much older.
@sorrowofherevil its practically the same song, not just the melody. He took half the lyrics...
Okay people naturally are talking about the differences between the german and english version but I haven't seen anyone bring up the question of what happened to the *rythme* here?? The amount of syllables in alot of these lines doesn't fit to the instrumental anymore making it sound off.
Steve Barton was in the original German production yes? Or was that just the American production?
I think both tbh
@@Yuki_ejriook that makes sense if it’s true cuz both singers sound similar
is this Roman Polanskis Testimony ore what?
Steve Barton is fantastic as always but....the lyrics in this version really disappoint me.
well if thats your opinion thats great :) I jsut thought you didn't knew the german version .. I don't hate the english one but I just don't like it as much
Sadly the translators did an awful job with this, instead of trying to stay close to the meaning he tried to stay close to the german language which any trnaslator should know doesn't work, through that it is not as emotional as the German original, if they would have written new lyrics with the same meaning (what you should do) that wouldn't happen
Also jetzt mal ehrlich... Der Titel is n bisschen daneben.
@licht789
