- If you've modded Fallout (like Fallout 4), or Beat Saber you're likely used to updates breaking mods. This video shows you how to prevent auto-updates or ANY updates in Steam for a specific game or app. This is a super simple, quick guide, and it's just as easy to unlock a game and update it again.

Nice trick. This is one of those culprits of playing legit games because they force updates on you. Glad to see that we can actually pause those updates especially for those who making comparison and patch update videos so that we don't have to bother with quacking just to avoid the updates. 🙂
Thanks so much. TWW3 releases patch 5.0 tomorrow which is sure to break most of the mods I use. And Steam *USED* to have a simple "Do not update this game" option in the downloads option tab for each game, but now they make you jump through these hoops for some dark room shady contract they signed with the DRM companies. I like Steam, but some games' DRM is so out of hand I pirate the game I would gladly buy at full price otherwise just to avoid the intrusiveness.

Before I had to find the manifestID on steamDB and trick steam into believing the game was already updated 😅

It doesn't work for some steam games that check the game version online at runtime and deny game play unless updated.
This is such a wonderful trick to keep the game at the same version, game like Dark Souls 3 and/or Skyrim seem to be perfect for doing this because I wouldn't want to ruins some of important mod and make the game run worse.
But I have one question : If you using this method, then how can we run the game? wouldn't that make the steam open the window box of updates like usual? or this trick would skip this session and open the game (without update box) am I understand right?
My GTA 5 would still be working if I knew this sooner. 🤦♂️ Ive been learning about all sorts of QoL things this week. Thanks for another great video!

if it’s for fallout specifically i recommend downloading vortex and setting up F4SE and launching it via that
