    I loaned a 4CX25000 to VOA in the Philippines years ago. For me it was a final tube in a given transmitter. For them it was a driver stage. They replaced my tube a month or so later. Also in that VOA transmitter, they used a 4CW250000 in the final stage. The only difference between the internal guts of the 4CX25000 and the 4CW250000 tube was the 4CX25000 is, of course, forced air cooled and the 4CW250000 is water cooled. Otherwise perty much the same internal parts in both tubes. In my TX, the Harris exciter put out 100 mw to a TO3 transistor at 2 watts, to a ceramic 3cx350 (I think? Too many years ago). Then to a 5CX5000 driver and finally the 4CX25000 final. Great video! Tubes rule!

    Econco has always treated me well with their rebuilds, but they are harder and harder to get. Thankfully, they were able to rebuild the last one I sent them and I am banking that with them.

    Used to have several 3cx150,000h3 tubes at work that after a few years (4-6) of hard use would be sent in to be rebuilt. Each time it would come back it would not last as long as the one before. Of course it was a bit less money, and it didn't take long to swap it out of it went bad, but it got to be a little to often to suit me. We did try a few YD1212, and they were a little tougher, but in our application it got a lot of rough use.

    Now that is a tube ! The broadcast AM transmitter I worked on has 4CW25000 output tubes. Ben using re bult tubes for years. always have a set or 2 on hand. we have our station call letters engraved on tube. Hi power stations still use TUBE outputs. The outher AM station near buy has 300V MOSFETS . and they change modules quite often. static from winter storms main cause. Blizzard a few years ago we had thunder snow. tower took a hit . feed line arced over taking main transmitter off line and went to lower power backup and back up feed line. was fun filling out reports and getting a crew together to repair feed line and we was a state of emergency due to winter storm. I spent the night at transmitter cite with lots of coffee and microwave dinners and the power was out and on generator most of night. when all done only damage was feedline and a tower light only one went out. 73's

    • @davemould4638
      @davemould4638 Před 2 lety

      Yup - but improving your antenna can get you a lot more dbs - and that's on receive as well as transmit - and cut out QRM as well. Always look at your antenna before increasing your power. If you are doing 2-way comms (as opposed to broadcast) there really is little point in blasting out so much power that the whole World can hear you but you can't hear anyone who is replying because you're using a bit of wet string as an antenna.

      @@arnoldgrubbs2005 Yes, although sadly there is often little you can do about noise coming from surrounding neighbours and infrastructure even if you identify exactly where it is coming from. LED lights might be "green" but some of them generate wideband noise up to VHF frequencies.
