Very admirable for Souci to come in such formal attire. He has high regard for the game. Even if he lose, he played the Magician, and that is a very unique opportunity not everyone of us have had.
Superb match. One has to wonder how George missed some of those shots looking at all the other brilliant shots he made. But Efren is too good as always.

I like watching pools and playing with friends for fun but doesn’t really know much about the game and most terminologies, so he’s actually doing me a great favour here in helping me understand the game on a player level.

Ginky died a few years back. He was always really nice to all the pool leaguers and was a gentleman at tournaments. I remember him running races for 100 each in the parking lot of Rockaway Billiards back in the day. His end was tragic.

There was a popular movie actor during the 19 60's who's name was Efren Reyes, one reason for adding "bata" or :young boy, in his name. the other reason was during those times the Pool Champion in the Philippines was Jose "Amang" Parica. "Amang"means "old man".
That's not the reason why Efren is called "Bata". In that Pool own by his Uncle, there was an older guy playing pool also by the same name "Efren Reyes ". So if someone asking someone for Efren, that someone will counter ask "which Efren? The young (bata) or the old Efren?

the match was in 2001, not 2006. The winner was Mika Immonen, not Ronato Alcano, although both the 2001 and 2006 ones had Ralf Souquet as runner-ups. You got confused about the year it took place from the middle of the video or even the start of it despite the commentator explicitly stated that the match was in 2001. It's amazing that not a single comment in this video corrects this huge misinformation.

By the looks of it, Efren was probably trying to bank that ball around the table and hide the cue ball behind the 9 ball. I don't think he was playing to pocket it. His reaction even suggests this. Besides, it makes no sense to play the bank. It was the harder shot and not necessary for position.
