  • Here's a pilots view from one of the stalls during our last weeks SIV course over Lake Garda in Italy. See if you can spot the mistakes the pilot made, leave a comment down below.

That's cool to get out a cravat while back flying haha! Despite everything else that happened, that made it worth to watch ;)
BTW I'm crap at back fly and catching the shoot :O)

Philippe is new to all these maneuvers and is training hard to improve his control, I like how calm he stayed through out the process and figured out what to do to recover the wing. It's time in the box to get better and a few great mentors will make your progression so much faster!

cravat from the back during stall -> just hands up and the wing flies again

Fun! Could have released the brakes before the tips came together and then choked the wing into back fly. 2 stage - or multi stage stall could avoid this huge bending of the wing. Entry to back fly from parachutal stall is the nicest way, but good to have this understanding of what happens if hanging on too long with too much brake before releasing - especially for quick stalls maybe needed in the wild. Not looking at the wing whilst in the stall at first so not fully aware of this huge cravat. The cravat on the right is behind the wing actually so releasing this right brake a bit could blow it off the lines. Holding the carabiners kind of locks him into this position - I guess the movement of the wing as it shoots forward a bit blew the cravat out.

      Hey! Thanks for detailed comment.
I agree two step stall works way better, while learning this seems to be easier, we tried to do two step before this as well. Not looking at the wing was what I ask for pilots who are learning to do this, as full stall is hard to control and initially there are too many things to think about and it is all so new.
To lower the work load, I ask my students to focus on what they can control - their hands. As long as the hands are symmetrically locked and not moving, the stall will not go into uncontrollable autorotation. This gives time to get accustomed to the new feeling and step by step get out of it and try again and again, till they feel comfortable to work on managing the stall with more presession.
As for cravat, if you look carefully you can see that the right hand is moving up just a touch, this is what got the cravat out.

Thanks Karlis. I guess I forgot a bit what it’s like for the first few 😂. Flyeo only seem to be teaching two stage right from the start now - but lots of other stuff to build up to the first stalls
